Chapter Twenty-Three: Rescue

Jiang Li followed Fang Qingxun to the place where Chen Dashun and the others had been. It was a small warehouse with no one at the door.

The two quietly approached the warehouse and looked through the window. Just as Fang Qingxun had said, there were only a dozen or so people inside, and several injured people were still lying on the ground resting.

Jiang Li and Fang Qingxun worked together to find a good spot. Jiang Li threw a stone towards the door to make noise and attract the attention of the people inside.

Hearing the commotion, the people inside sent two people out to investigate. As the two walked out of sight, Jiang Li and Fang Qingxun jumped out, one on each side, giving the other no time to react. They quickly covered each other's mouths with one hand and slashed their necks with the other, silencing them completely.

Jiang Li and the others returned to the warehouse entrance. After a while, the people inside noticed that the two who had gone out had not returned and realized that something was wrong.

Two people stayed behind to take care of the wounded, while the rest picked up knives and left the warehouse. Not far from the warehouse, they saw the two people who had come out earlier lying on the ground. Upon closer inspection, they found that they were dead.

After Jiang Li and the others left, they slipped into the warehouse. Once they were out of sight, the two quickly dealt with the two people tending to the wounded.

The others saw the two people who suddenly appeared and immediately shouted.

"Quick, someone come here! They're here!"

Before the others returned, the two quickly dealt with them. Those who tried to escape to the door were killed by Fang Qingxun with a single slash.

Those outside heard the commotion and realized they had been tricked. They rushed back and saw Jiang and Li killing someone in the warehouse. They raised their knives and charged forward.

There were only a dozen or so people to begin with, and some of them were dealt with in batches by Jiang Li and his group. The remaining people were easily dealt with by Jiang Li and Fang Qingxun.

After finishing, Jiang Li saw that the shelves in the warehouse were full of food. With so many people, there was plenty of food. There were even some medical supplies. After the two of them divided the food, they packed it up and left the warehouse.

After leaving the warehouse, Jiang Li and Fang Qingxun chatted for a while before saying goodbye. Fang Qingxun looked at Jiang Li's departing figure and felt a little regretful. She really wanted to be friends with Jiang Li, but she had more important things to do now and didn't know if she would have the chance to meet again in the future.

Neither Jiang Li nor Fang Qingxun knew that they would meet again soon and become teammates who could trust each other, but that was a story for another time.

After leaving Fang Qingxun's sight, Jiang Li put everything into his spatial storage. Then, as before, he rode his little donkey toward the base, collecting supplies along the way. Occasionally, he would encounter some people, but he would avoid them to avoid trouble. If he couldn't avoid them and they were looking for trouble, Jiang Li would not be lenient.

A few more days passed, and Jiang Li arrived in H City. He resumed his wanderings in the city, intending to collect useful supplies while slowly making his way towards the base.

Sometimes there would be earthquakes, so they would stop to rest. Jiang Li lived a carefree life, eating whatever he wanted, farming, and raising livestock. He was very content. He thought that he might not be able to live as carefree after going to the base, and he wouldn't dare to eat anything with strong smells, so Jiang Li wasn't in a hurry to go to the base.

Jiang Li didn't expect to meet Gu Jin again so soon, but this time Gu Jin looked a bit disheveled.

Gu Jin was being chased by two tigers. This place used to be near the largest wildlife museum in H City, which contained many kinds of ferocious animals.

During the hottest times, employees would come to feed the animals at night, but later the employees stopped working, and no one fed them anymore. The long-term hunger made them restless and they fought each other. With the arrival of the earthquake, the buildings were destroyed, and they could no longer be kept in captivity. They wandered around the city in search of food. They were already starving for a long time, and they became even more ferocious after being released. Many people have become their meals.

Gu Jin was passing by when a tiger spotted him. He aimed his gun at the tiger and fired. Although the tiger was huge, it was very fast, making it difficult to hit a vital spot with a single shot. The wounded tiger roared and became even more ferocious.

While Gu Jin was fighting the tiger, another tiger suddenly appeared. Gu Jin immediately dodged, but was still scratched in the chest by the tiger. The tiger's roar attracted another tiger nearby.

Gu Jin could handle one tiger, but two tigers were a bit too much for him to handle. Fortunately, Gu Jin was quite skilled, and since this was a city with many buildings and obstacles, and the tigers were too big to fit in many places, it was difficult for him to catch Gu Jin in a short time.

At this moment, Gu Jin was in the middle of the collapsed building. The gap was just big enough for one person to pass through. The tigers were so big that they could only guard the two exits. Even if they put their claws in, they couldn't grab Gu Jin. One of the tigers tried to grab Gu Jin from above, but the gap was too small to fit through.

The smell of blood spurred the tiger to keep ramming the building. Gu Jin knew she had to leave as soon as possible, as the smell of blood would attract more animals, and the building wouldn't last much longer. The longer she stayed, the more blood she would lose, making it even harder to leave.

As Gu Jin was pondering how to get out, she heard the sound of a motorcycle outside. Soon after, the tiger left. Gu Jin looked out and saw Jiang Li, carrying a large piece of meat, riding a motorcycle to lure the tiger away. Gu Jin quickly chased after him, wanting Jiang Li not to worry about her, but Jiang Li had already ridden the motorcycle, turning left and right, leading the tiger away until he was out of sight. So Gu Jin followed in the direction Jiang Li had gone.

When Jiang Li arrived, he saw Gu Jin being chased by a tiger. After thinking about how Gu Jin had saved him before, he decided to help.

Jiang Li wasn't unprepared. She was thinking about how to save Gu Jin when she saw Gu Jin hide in the gap. That's when she came up with this method. She only acted after confirming that it was feasible.

He put his little donkey into his spatial storage, took out a motorcycle with a full tank of gas. The motorcycle was much faster than the little donkey. Then he took out a large piece of fresh pork and rode the motorcycle towards the tiger. When he was a distance away from the tiger and made sure he had attracted its attention, he threw the meat on the ground and then used another piece of meat to lure the tiger to another place.

As expected, the tiger was lured away by Jiang Li, and after finishing the meat on the ground, it chased after Jiang Li.

Jiang left the motorcycle and kept looking ahead. He confirmed in the rearview mirror that the tiger was catching up, so he threw the meat on the ground and then threw two live chickens out of his spatial storage to attract the tiger. Jiang looked at the two chickens that had been thrown out with a pained expression, and then turned around and went back.

The live chicken should buy them some time. The tigers were indeed attracted by the live chicken. They also knew that the chicken was much easier to catch than Jiang Li. It wouldn't be too late to chase Jiang Li after they caught the chicken.

The chicken was a little confused when it suddenly came out of the space, but when it saw the two tigers pouncing, it was so scared that it flew around in all directions. But it was no match for the tigers and was caught in no time. After the tigers ate the chicken, they turned around and chased after Jiang Li and the others again.
