Eighty-eight: The Dungeon

Upon hearing this, many people quickly went to find something to start a fire, but none of them dared to leave the protective circle of Captain Wang and his team.

Soon Captain Wang and his men prepared torches and piled up a fire on the ground. Sure enough, the bats were clearly frightened and retreated a great distance.

But they still persisted in trying to break out of the circle, after all, it was full of delicious food.

The number of bats at the service center is increasing, and the ground is littered with the burnt corpses of bats, filling the air with a foul odor.

Because torches have a significant impact on bats, Captain Wang has already sent a group of people to various parts of the base to rescue those trapped and to try to lure the bats away to other areas so that they can be eliminated.

The battle raged on for an unknown period of time. The number of bat corpses on the ground increased, and the smell became increasingly foul. Suddenly, the bats that had gathered there began to fly to other parts of the base. They probably knew that this place was a tough nut to crack and wanted to go elsewhere for a feast. Only a few remained.

Captain Wang was determined not to let the bats succeed, so he increased his firepower to deal with them, which angered the bats.

The enraged bats flew back, but soon after, for some unknown reason, they all flew back to the back of the mountain.

Everyone was happy to see that the bats had left, thinking that the bats had finally surrendered, and they didn't care why the bats left.

Jiang Li checked the time and it was around 6 a.m. Normally, it would be dawn by then. Jiang Li wondered if bats had their own biological clock.

They come out to forage at night and return to their caves to rest during the day, as it should be dawn by then.

Are mutated bats blind? Do they rely entirely on ultrasound to catch prey? Is that why they fly back on their own at the designated time?

Otherwise, Jiang Li couldn't figure out why the bats, who had made such a big fuss, would return at this particular time.

Regardless, everyone in the base breathed a sigh of relief. Jiang Li and his group had always been divided into two groups, taking turns fighting, otherwise everyone would have been exhausted in the end, and if an accident occurred, they would have been wiped out.

Now that they were finally free, the group sat in the car to rest. Everyone was heading back to their rooms, and they wanted to drive, but couldn't get out for the time being.

Captain Wang glanced at the bats scattered all over the ground and asked someone to dispose of the bat carcasses. These carcasses might attract other wild animals, and the smell was also very unpleasant. After arranging the matters, Captain Wang saw Jiang Li and the others who had not yet left.

He strolled over to Jiang Li and the others and chatted with them briefly.

"Thank you for today."

Captain Wang knew that their intervention greatly relieved his pressure. Most of the residents in the base were just standing by and wouldn't help, but Jiang Li and his group joined the battle without hesitation.

"You're welcome. We've attracted a lot of bats too, so it's only right that we help."

Gu Jin and Captain Wang exchanged a few pleasantries. Usually, Gu Jin was the one who dealt with Captain Wang outside. Gu Jin was the captain of Fang Qingxun's team, while Jiang Li was not good at dealing with the base.

Then they got down to business, and Captain Wang spoke seriously to the group.

"These bats may just be the appetizer. More animals will come out of the back mountain later. Because of the previous 'heart' incident, the base has never relaxed its observation of the back mountain."

I told you guys before about the beast tide, but I didn't expect the bats to come out first and catch the base off guard.

"Does this mean the underground city is habitable now?"

Gu Jin asked Captain Wang.

"How do you know?"

Captain Wang sounded very surprised, clearly not expecting that Gu Jin and the others had already known the news in advance.

"Dungeon?"

Jiang Li didn't seem to have heard Gu Jin mention it.

"Yes, do you remember when Captain Wang consulted me about base defense? I mainly dealt with the defense of the base's perimeter."

The base not only needs to provide living quarters, but also needs to ensure security and have a certain offensive capability. What I need to do is related to this aspect.

But I vaguely remember them mentioning it, I wasn't sure, but now it's confirmed.

Jiang Li understood when he heard Gu Jin say that Gu Jin was also the captain of the cunning team.

At this moment, Captain Wang...

I really have to be careful when talking to them. I could easily get information out of them. They're all younger than me. Am I just too careless, or are they just too clever?

"Alright, since you already know, I'll tell you too."

The underground city was actually already under construction at the base. It was after that auction that the base realized there might be other disasters, so they started planning ahead.

Another section has already been built, so they might be moved down before the beast tide arrives.

Now that Gu Jin and the others already knew, Captain Wang no longer tried to hide it from them.

"Has someone already moved in?"

Jiang Li asked Captain Wang.

This time, Captain Wang didn't say anything more, only gave a wry smile, but his attitude had already given Jiang Li and the others an answer.

Jiang Li knew that classes existed at all times, and capital was no exception.

Even in the apocalypse, this is still unavoidable.

If Jiang Li was lucky enough to be reborn and have a space to secretly live a good life in the base...

These people are living good lives openly and honestly. Jiang Li is neither envious nor jealous, because her own life is already very good. There are too many unfair things in the world, and it is impossible for her to care about everything. Otherwise, she would only be tiring herself out.

However, most of the people in this base are ordinary people who often live hand to mouth and go hungry, and they have fewer chances to survive than others.

"Anyway, you'd better be prepared."

Captain Wang chatted with everyone for a few more minutes before leaving; he had many other things to do.

After most of the people in the square had left, Jiang Li and the others went back, and they chatted about the underground city in the car.

“There was dense fog before, and now it’s nighttime. There have also been animal attacks on the base. It’s not only unsafe, but also difficult to manage. Building an underground province can definitely solve all these problems.”

Listening to Gu Jin's explanation, Jiang Li felt it made perfect sense.

"Sigh, it looks like the room I decorated before will have to be torn down again. I really liked it."

Fu Xiaxia couldn't help but sigh.

Jiang Li also thought of the bedroom that had just been packed up.

"The room was only recently set up, so it looks like we won't be staying there for long."

"It should be, but we should be able to stay for a while longer. After all, the underground city that can accommodate the entire base must be quite large."

Things are different now than before the apocalypse; construction won't be as quick.

Gu Jin continued her analysis.

"Yes, although Captain Wang said that construction had already begun, it is probably not fully completed yet."

Shi Yuan also expressed his agreement.
