Chapter 49

Chapter 49

Several people hid behind the reef and could hear the wailing sounds not far away clearly. They had a premonition that if they went out now, they would definitely be strung together by the long tube by those deformed creatures.

"I feel a little guilty," said Lu Shiyu.

Yan Hong comforted him, "There's nothing we can do. After all, if we don't run, we might be the ones to die."

"No, that's not what I'm talking about," Lu Shiyu put his backpack on his thigh and took out an egg from it: "I mean this."

Yan Hong: “…”

Chen Yunliang laughed dryly. "Then you really should feel guilty. We didn't even notice when you took it."

Lu Shiyu scratched his head embarrassedly: "Hehe, I just hid one when you guys weren't looking."

"I'm not complimenting you."

After the chirping stopped, Tang Zeyu carefully poked his head out from behind the reef. After howling for a while, the deformed creatures began to dig the sand pit again, trying to bury all the eggs that had been dug out.

After the eggs were buried, the deformed creatures stayed there and refused to leave, probably because they were afraid that the murderer who destroyed the eggs would come back again.

"They're not leaving," Tang Zeyu said as he returned to the reef. "But I suspect they'll come out again this afternoon. Considering their size, they'll definitely need the same amount of food to provide them with nutrients and calories. Now we just have to wait for them to leave and hunt again."

Several people climbed onto the reef one after another to avoid the cold sea water below.

The parts below the thighs of several people were soaked in sea water, and their shoes and socks were all wet. It was extremely uncomfortable to wear socks soaked with sea water and be suffocated in shoes. Anyway, they couldn't walk for a while, so they simply took off their shoes and socks to avoid hurting their feet.

"My clothes have been soaked in seawater and I have to wash them again," Yan Hong said, wringing out the water from her trouser legs. "I feel like the soap is almost gone."

"You're not asking me to let you win, are you?" Shao Xingyang said with a discontented tone, "My abilities can be overdrawn, too."

"If you're overdrawn after adding a little water, it just means you're a loser."

Lu Shiyu poked his head out, looking at the deformed creatures patrolling around the egg, and asked Chen Yunliang, "Why are they so obsessed with burying their eggs in the sand?"

Chen Yunliang thought for a moment and said, "Perhaps it's because the eggs need temperature to incubate, and they need to go out frequently to forage for food. So they can only bury the eggs in the sand so that they can hatch normally when they are out."

"Aren't they afraid that their eggs will be crushed by themselves?"

"Look for yourself," Chen Yunliang nodded in the direction of the deformed creature. "The spacing between their eggs is similar, and their feet are shaped like chicken claws. These two combined can effectively prevent the eggs from being crushed by a slip."

"I see."

Those deformed creatures waited there for about half an hour. Probably thinking that the murderer would not come back, they planned to go out to find food again, but they were still worried about the eggs, so they split into two groups, one group went out to find food, and the other group stayed where they were.

Shao Xingyang was instantly deflated when he saw that half of the deformed creatures remained.

"What? We still haven't left," Shao Xingyang said, lying on the rocks like a stranded fish. "We don't have to wait until they fall asleep before we can leave, do we?"

"That's not the case," Chen Yunliang replied. "When the sun starts to set and their sight becomes weaker due to lack of light, we can just go ahead, protected by the sound of the waves."

There was still some time before the sun set, and the few of them had a rare opportunity to sit down and watch the sea and the sunset.

The salty sea breeze blew Lu Shiyu's short hair, which was just long enough to reach her shoulders and fluttered freely in the air. The waves hit the rocks and broke into countless transparent pearls. A few seabirds with red eyes and a pair of antennae on their heads flew low over the sea, making hoarse and unpleasant calls.

The setting sun shone on everyone's face. As the sea water rose again after receding, several people realized that the time had come.

While the deformed creatures were out looking for food again, everyone stood up and prepared to take action.

Tang Zeyu was still walking in the front. When he walked out of the reef completely, the deformed creature on the shore remained unmoved. It did not react until he walked to the next reef. The others followed him out of the reef and followed behind Tang Zeyu.

After successfully bypassing the group of deformed creatures, the group hurried forward, and finally left the sand and stepped onto the land before the sun completely set.

"Finally it's out!" Shaoxing Yang stretched lazily.

After leaving the desert, my uneasy heart finally settled down. A journey that originally only took half a day to complete ended up wasting a whole day. Now it was getting dark and I had no time to look for other places, so I decided to set up camp here and rest.

The sea surface reflected the light of the moon. Standing on a high place, the shimmering waves looked like an oil painting. The firewood was lit, and the new light source instantly captured more attention.

Lu Shiyu turned his head to look. Shao Xingyang was draining water to boil water, Chen Yunliang was taking off his wet clothes, and Yan Hong was pulling off the rubber band to let her hair breathe. Being trapped on the reef was much more painful than walking with luggage on their backs. Not only could they not go anywhere, but they also had to endure the stuffy heat that permeated their bodies. Now everyone urgently needed to take a good bath to wash off the sea water and sand on their bodies.

"What are you looking at?" Tang Zeyu asked calmly.

"We were watching those deformed creatures," Lu Shiyu replied. "They sleep together at night. No wonder we didn't notice them before."

Tang Zeyu also looked over there. From a distance, those deformed creatures huddled together looked like a large piece of stone, disguising themselves very well without any patterns or behaviors.

"The first bucket of water is ready. Who wants to wash first?" Shaoxing Yang brought down a bucket of water that had just been heated.

"Lu Shiyu and I will go wash first," Yan Hong scratched her hair and said, "I feel so uncomfortable all over. I can't stand it for another second."

The bathing method was also very simple and crude. The two of them brought clean clothes and a basin for water, and carried a bucket to a place that was neither too far nor too close, so that they could neither see nor shout at anyone if they encountered any danger.

Lu Shiyu had long been accustomed to the so-called "bath". At first, she thought that it was the same as in the base where she needed to take off all her clothes before taking a bath, and she felt awkward for a while. Eventually, Yanhong told her that she didn't need to take off all her clothes, and she just needed to wipe it clean with a wet towel.

Yes, after all, there is no free access to hot water in the wild.

The two of them took off their excess clothes back to back. The less clothes they had, the easier it was to wipe. They soaked the towel in a basin filled with hot water, wrung out some of the water after it was fully absorbed, and then they could wipe it directly on their bodies. They rubbed the hot towel back and forth on their bodies, and soon all the dirt, grease, dandruff and other dirt were rubbed off.

Feeling that the skin on her body that was covered with floating bubbles was being rubbed off, Yan Hong instantly felt that the suffocating oppression disappeared and her body could breathe again.

Finally, pour hot water over your body to rinse off any residue, and that's considered a bath.

However, Lu Shiyu and Yanhong had to go through one more step than the other three. They also needed to wash their hair. Fortunately, their hair was not very long, so they could just wash it casually.

After taking a shower, the two people put on their clothes and returned to the camp to let the others take a shower.

Lu Shiyu wrapped her hair with a towel. She had to cook next, and it would be inconvenient to have her hair loose and it would be easy for her hair to fall into the towel.

Lu Shiyu took out the eggs he had just taken from the deformed creature today from his bag. The eggs were so big that he needed to hold them with both hands.

Lu Shiyu used the handle of a knife to break the top part of the eggshell and poured the egg white and yolk inside into a clean bowl.

Thank goodness, this egg hasn't started to develop yet, otherwise they would probably have to eat the live bead.

Use chopsticks to break up the huge egg yolk in the bowl and divide it into three equal parts.

One portion is used to make steamed eggs, and the other portion is used to make sausage omelette.

As for the last serving of egg liquid, Lu Shiyu felt worried and was hesitant between egg drop soup and egg fried rice.

"Lu Shiyu, look what I found."

Yanhong went out to get some fresh air and came back holding a pile of stone-like things.

"What's this?"

"I don't know. I took it from the rocks below."

Lu Shiyu picked one up and looked at it carefully.

From the outside, it does look like an ugly, weathered stone, with a rough surface that feels a bit rough to the touch.

But if you turn this rough rock over, you can see the suction-cup-like ventral foot underneath, which should be used for walking and fixing itself to the reef.

These were probably pried off by Yan Hong with a knife, because Lu Shiyu found that many of the ventral feet were missing a piece, which was probably cut off when prying them hard.

This was probably some kind of shellfish. Lu Shiyu guessed that it tasted similar to oysters.

"Let's decide what to eat today!"

"Huh? What to eat?"

Lu Shiyu pushed Yan Hong to sit by the campfire, took out a small basin and said with a smile: "Please pry the meat out of these shells. I plan to use them to make... uh, a deformed creature fried egg."

"Well? Okay," Yan Hong said, picking up the knife, "but I can't guarantee I can pry it clean."

"It's okay, just pry most of the meat out."

Lu Shiyu turned around and started preparing other dishes.

The first step is steaming the egg, which takes the longest time. Lu Shiyu added about 1.5 times the amount of water and a few spoons of salt to one of the egg liquids, stirred it evenly, and poured it back into the eggshell.

Find a pot that can hold the lower half of the eggshell, put the eggshell filled with egg liquid in it, put cold water in the pot, and seal the eggshell with an inverted bowl. Put the pot on the fire and wait for the egg liquid to solidify.

Then came the sausage and thick omelet. Lu Shiyu took out a frying pan from his bag. Although it was a round pan, it could still be used.

After the pan is hot, apply a layer of oil on it, put two sausages in and fry them until cooked. After the sausages are cooked through, pour in a thin layer of egg liquid.

Shake the pan to spread the egg liquid evenly over the pan. Before the egg liquid is completely solidified, use chopsticks to roll up the egg skin to wrap the sausage.

After rolling, place the egg roll on one side of the pan and continue pouring the egg liquid. When the egg liquid is almost solidified, roll it up to cover the previously rolled part.

Repeat the steps three to four times and the sausage and thick omelet is ready.

Lu Shiyu poured the sausage and egg stew from the pot into a plate and cut it with a knife. The egg liquid retained the tender yellow color of the yolk, and the sausage core was still an attractive pink.

Just one roll was definitely not enough, and there was still a lot of egg liquid left, so Lu Shiyu simply made another one. Two thick omelets filled the entire plate.

Now there was only the last bit of egg liquid left. Lu Shiyu looked towards Yan Hong and found that she was still prying those shells.

"Yan Hong?"

Click——

The shell in Yan Hong's hand was crushed directly, and part of the fragments fell into the bowl containing meat.

Yan Hong turned her head with a gloomy face.

"What's up?"
