Chapter 59

Chapter 59

Tang Zeyu gave him a meaningful look.

"What do you want?"

"So direct?" Shao Xingyang scratched his head and said, "I want to wait until I get back so I don't have to train with the newcomers, is that okay?"

"Please, Captain," Shao Xingyang said, pulling Tang Zeyu's hand with a pitiful look on his face, begging Tang Zeyu, "Please don't leave me for training."

Tang Zeyu: “…”

Tang Zeyu pulled his hand back and said, "You can bet if you want."

"Really!"

"But I want to change the conditions."

When Tang Zeyu's slightly threatening eyes swept over him, Shao Xingyang immediately withdrew his hand that was about to grab Tang Zeyu's arm and said in a flattering tone: "Captain, you say it, I will listen to you!"

"First, if Yan Hong is right, then both you and her training will be exempted."

"Great!" Shao Xingyang said as if he had already heard the good news of victory: "Thank you, Captain!"

"Secondly, if Yan Hong is wrong and Lu Shiyu is right," Tang Zeyu looked at him playfully, "then both of you will lose your vacation time after you return this time."

"No problem!" Shaoxing Yang agreed without hesitation, not worried about losing at all.

Because this secret bet was originally just a matter of different opinions between Yan Hong and Lu Shiyu, but now two unrelated people have been involved.

Chen Yunliang found a place on the spot and began to dissect the rabbit. Yan Hong and Lu Shiyu squatted on the left and right and watched.

The scalpel was slashed, and the muscles in different areas were separated. The internal organs were taken out with tweezers and spread out for easy observation.

Lu Shiyu looked at the rabbit with a rectangular cut on its belly with a complicated expression.

"Sure enough, what's cut with a kitchen knife is called food, and what's cut with a scalpel is called a corpse," Lu Shiyu said with a hint of disdain, "It looks completely unappetizing."

"Do you still want to eat?" Yan Hong asked.

At some point, there was a person behind both of them, and Shaoxing Yang and Tang Zeyu also came over to watch together.

Shaoxing Yang poked Yan Hong and asked, "Can you understand this?"

"I don't understand," Yan Hong replied expressionlessly, "I haven't learned it, so how would I know? Do you understand it?"

"can't read."

"That's it."

Tang Zeyu came close to Lu Shiyu's ear and asked, "Did you see anything?"

"Well, so far, I haven't found anything unusual." Lu Shiyu watched intently, not noticing that the person next to him was almost close to him. He said, "They are no different from the normal rabbits I saw at the base."

"So, this is really a normal rabbit, not a deformed creature?"

"If nothing unusual is found afterwards, then there's no escape."

"I say," Chen Yunliang raised his head, his voice muffled by the mask, "could you please not get so close? Can't you feel the heat?"

"well?"

When they took their eyes off the dissected rabbit, they realized that they had almost formed a ball without realizing it.

Realizing that it was too crowded, a few people moved to the side to make room.

"Also, don't talk next to me while I'm working," Chen Yunliang pointed at Chen Yunliang with a scalpel, "It's making my ears hurt."

Chen Yunliang pretended to zip up his mouth and made an "OK" gesture with his hand.

After calming down, Chen Yunliang continued to work and soon came up with results.

"I checked it, and it's indeed an ordinary rabbit."

"How is this possible? Are you mistaken?" Yan Hong still couldn't believe it: "How could there be normal animals here?"

"Yes, normal animals have long been replaced by deformed creatures. Even if there are some that survived by chance, they can't survive among so many deformed creatures." Shao Xingyang also agreed.

Chen Yunliang didn't give them any slack and said directly, "Believe it or not, I've checked it out. This rabbit doesn't have any signs of deformity at all. It's indistinguishable from the normal rabbits bred at the base. From its fur to its internal organs, there's nothing wrong with it."

Lu Shiyu asked, "Is it possible for normal animals to appear outside the base?"

"Impossible," Chen Yunliang said, taking off his mask. "Even if I could give you an example, I can still tell you that all creatures outside the base have been deformed, without exception. The only difference is the degree of deformation."

"But this doesn't make sense," Yan Hong said, her hands on her hips. "Since there can't be normal animals outside the base, how do we explain this rabbit?"

Tang Zeyu asked, "Could it be possible that Professor Chen or one of his disciples brought him out from the base?"

Chen Yunliang shook his head and said, "Professor Chen has never left that forest, let alone climbed a mountain to release the rabbit here."

"Could it be his apprentice?"

Chen Yunliang was surprised and asked, "Why does his apprentice carry a rabbit with him?"

"Um, emergency food reserves?"

Almost all the guesses were rejected, and several people couldn't explain it. Yan Hong sighed, and suddenly found that Shao Xingyang, who always talked the most, didn't say a word.

Yan Hong turned around and found that Shao Xingyang was standing in front of a tree with his back to them and his head against the tree.

"Shaoxing Yang? What are you doing standing there?"

Shaoxing Yang did not respond to him directly, but kept that posture and started muttering.

"What's wrong with him?" Yan Hong turned around and asked others in confusion.

Tang Zeyu glanced at him and told him about the bet they had just made.

Yan Hong's eyes gradually widened. When she heard that Shao Xingyang's bet actually included her vacation, and that her vacation was gone because she lost, Yan Hong's gaze filled with resentment and anger turned into a dagger and stabbed at Shao Xingyang.

Shaoxing Yang, who was trying to play dead to get away with it, suddenly felt a burning gaze fixed on him, almost burning a hole in his back. Feeling guilty, he began to move away.

"Listen to my explanation, I..."

"Explain your uncle!"

Shao Xingyang was almost beaten by Yan Hong. The other team members had long been accustomed to it. Even Lu Shiyu was used to the way these two people solved problems by fighting. The three of them stood aside and waited for the two to settle their personal grudges before continuing.

Lu Shiyu remembered what Yan Hong said about there being no normal animals outside the base, so he turned to ask Chen Yunliang, "But where did this rabbit come from?"

Chen Yunliang helplessly spread his hands. "You ask me, who should I ask? I haven't seen any normal animals outside the base either. But just because no one has seen them doesn't mean they don't exist. Maybe some normal animals have managed to survive, but their numbers are too small to be discovered. But whatever the possibility is, it's not something we should worry about. We have our own things to do."

"Besides, the rabbit is already dead. There's no point in dwelling on it."

Lu Shiyu looked at the rabbit that could never come back to life and could only put his doubts aside for the time being.

"But it's really strange that something like this happened," Tang Zeyu said. "When I get back, I'll report the appearance of normal creatures here. As for whether someone will be assigned to handle it, that depends on how the base views it."

Tang Zeyu shouted in the direction of the two people: "How long will it take you?"

Yan Hong punched Shao Xingyang on the left cheek and turned around and said, "I'm coming right up!"

Shaoxing Yang held his swollen face and hissed.

"Could you be a little gentler? You've made my handsome face swollen. Do you know how to be gentle with women?"

"If you keep arguing, I'll make your cheeks symmetrical!"

Everyone continued on their way with a lot of noise. As for the dissected rabbit, because it looked really uneatable, Lu Shiyu buried it under a tree to serve as nutrients for plants.

The group followed Tang Zeyu forward. Shao Xingyang was still applying a water bag to his face and was not paying attention to what was ahead. The next moment, he bumped into someone who suddenly stopped in front of him.

"This is it."

Tang Zeyu pushed aside the bushes, and a huge deep pit appeared in front of everyone.

"What is this?" Yan Hong leaned over to take a look.

I saw a very strange stone lying quietly in the huge pit.

The surface of the huge, irregular boulder was covered with holes of various sizes, through which one could peek into the stone's internal structure. The exterior looked like an ugly, weathered stone, pitch black with raised lines, but the interior had a crystal-like structure, in no way inferior to the expensive gems at auction. A ray of sunlight that had escaped the net happened to shine into one of the small holes, refracting colorful flashes.

This is obviously a meteorite.

Tang Zeyu compared the map and confirmed that this huge meteorite was the target they were looking for.

"Meteorite?" Yan Hong looked down at the stone in the pit and said, "Could the base have misjudged it as something important? If so, this trip would be in vain."

"Not necessarily. This meteorite might be what the base is looking for."

Chen Yunliang raised his hand to stop Shaoxing Yang and Yan Hong who were about to go down as the vanguard. He pushed his glasses and said, "The meteorite may carry radioactive elements, that is, radiation, so don't go down yet to avoid any problems."

"Is this true?" Although they said this, the two of them had actually retreated silently.

"No contact?" Tang Zeyu asked.

Chen Yunliang: "To be on the safe side, we shouldn't have direct physical contact, and it's best not to get too close. We didn't know the target was a meteorite before we set out, so we didn't bring any detectors. We can't make an accurate judgment, but we'd rather believe it. If something goes wrong, even supernatural powers can't guarantee rescue."

Tang Zeyu finally ordered that no one should go down into the pit and gave up on exploring for the meteorite. He chose to send a signal directly to the base so that the base could easily determine the location, and wait for the people at the base to arrive and let them study it.

After the message was sent, preparations had to be made to welcome the arrival of the base helicopter. Tang Zeyu selected an area not far from the meteorite and planned to cut down all the trees there to use as a helicopter landing pad.

Since we were not sure how big the helicopter the base would send would be, we decided to make it as big as possible to be safe, and finally decided to make it half the size of a basketball court.

Tang Zeyu took out a few axes from his bag. Lu Shiyu watched from the side and wondered if Tang Zeyu's bag was a four-dimensional pocket that could always take out some unexpected tools.

Several people picked up axes and turned into lumberjacks and started to chop down trees diligently. This time, even Lu Shiyu was pulled in to work together. After all, if they had not cleared the area by the time the helicopter arrived, they would not be able to go back.

After chopping for a long time, they finally managed to chop down half of the trees before sunset. They dragged the chopped trees aside, leaving an area in the middle without any trees blocking the view. They set up their tent and started a fire there.

Although Lu Shiyu only managed to chop down two trees because he was not familiar with the skills, he was extremely tired and his arms were so sore that they were trembling slightly.

In this situation, if he held the kitchen knife to cut vegetables, he might cut his fingers. Besides, Lu Shiyu was already so tired and didn't want to cook any dishes that required complicated processes.

After some thought, Lu Shiyu finally decided what to make for dinner.
