Chapter 49: Give me your ID number?

Chapter 49: Give me your ID number?

When I came out of the shopping mall, the street, which had been filled with shouts, was now so quiet that I could hear my blood throbbing in my ears.

"This isn't right..." He Zhuo's Adam's apple bobbed, he swallowed hard, and his knuckles unconsciously tightened their grip on the baseball bat: "I feel like..."

"Shut your crow's mouth!" Lu Xici interrupted, but his pupils contracted uncontrollably, his gaze fixed on the end of the street.

He Zhuo turned to look at him: "Me? A jinx? So, you also find the silence eerie, right?"

"Clang—"

The sound of metal colliding exploded in the opposite direction.

Chi Yanzhou had somehow already jumped onto the roof of an abandoned SUV.

His right arm muscles tensed, and blue-purple lightning coiled and snaked around him like a venomous snake, slashing fiercely at the distant truck as he swung his arm.

The moment lightning struck the fuel tank, the shockwave from the explosion overturned surrounding vehicles, and the heat wave, carrying fragments of metal, whistled and scattered in all directions.

"Stop talking nonsense, let's go!"

He leaped down and scooped up Lu Beiye.

They had retreated less than fifty meters when they heard rustling sounds behind them.

The sound was like a million insect legs scraping against rubble.

It resembled rotting flesh being dragged across rough cement, sticky and dense, sending chills down one's spine.

"I knew it..." He Zhuo ran while looking back, cold sweat sliding down his temples and into his collar.

The next second, he choked on his breath—

"What the hell is that?!"

At the intersection at the end of the street, an overturned car was suddenly lifted up by a huge force and rolled into the shops on the side of the street.

Amidst the shattering sound of glass breaking, a dark figure over four meters tall slowly rose to its upright position.

Scarlet eyeballs rolled inside the skull.

"Thump!"

As the shadowy figure took its first step, the car parked on the side of the road was crushed like a soda can.

The flames from the exploding fuel tank illuminated the prominent spinal spurs on its back.

The bone spurs opened and closed rhythmically with the running motion, much like the gills of some deep-sea creature.

Chi Yanzhou's lightning struck again, hitting the monster precisely in the face.

The high-voltage current, powerful enough to char an ordinary zombie, only left a charred mark on its forehead.

The monster didn't even slow down; its bone blade swept across the road sign pole, severing the metal shaft like a reed.

"Nan Nan, let's go!" Chi Yanzhou pushed Lu Beiye towards Lu Nange and then turned around to block the crowd.

His knuckles crackled with electricity, and his voice was hoarse: "Run! You guys wait for me in the car!"

Lu Beiye: "Sis, red...red eyes mean a level two zombie! I'm going to help Brother Yanzhou!"

Lu Xici and the other two drew their guns from their waists, cocked them deftly, and raised all three guns at the same time.

Lu Xici shouted, "Nannan, take Aye and retreat first. We'll cover the rear!"

The dense hail of bullets exploded on the zombie, splattering blood, but it only made the zombie shake its head slightly.

Chi Yanzhou's lightning followed closely behind, the electric light wrapping around the monster's entire body, but it only caused it to twitch for a few seconds.

"Cough..." Chi Yanzhou's knees suddenly buckled, but Gu Qi caught him.

Lu Beiye's hands burst forth with golden light, and dozens of darts shot out.

A blood-red eyeball burst open with a "poof," splattering putrid pus and blood onto the asphalt road.

"Hehe—!"

The furious roar shattered the shop window glass.

The zombies suddenly increased in speed, their rotting muscle fibers taut to their limit, and the ground was ripped open with spiderweb-like cracks.

"Clatter."

The soft click of a sniper rifle being cocked came from the roof of the car.

Lu Nange knelt on one knee, the butt of the rifle firmly against her shoulder.

The moment the crosshair locked onto the zombie's forehead, she held her breath.

"Bang!"

The sniper bullet blew half of the zombie's skull off.

But the zombie merely shook its mutilated head before lunging at Lu Nange with even greater ferocity!

"Nan Nan! Run!" Lu Xici shouted as he rushed toward Lu Nange.

Chi Yanzhou and Lu Beiye suddenly attacked at the same time.

Lightning and golden light intertwined, temporarily imprisoning the zombies in place.

In that split second—Lu Nange leaped from the roof of the car.

"laugh!"

With a dull thud as the Tang sword cleaved through the skull,

At the same moment, Chi Yanzhou picked up the Tang sword next to Lu Xici and slashed at the zombie from behind.

Three throwing knives in Lu Beiye's hand whistled as they pierced through the zombie's temple.

Caught between three sides, the zombies froze in place.

With a loud bang, those scarlet eyes went completely dark.

Lu Nange, panting heavily, flicked the tip of her knife and dug out a blood-red crystal core from the zombie's skull.

"Ho, ho, ho—"

Suddenly, a series of loud noises came from the alley entrance, and the ground seemed to tremble slightly.

"Run!" she screamed.

Lu Xici pulled the exhausted Lu Beiye into her arms.

Gu Qi and He Zhuo supported the exhausted Chi Yanzhou on either side, and the six of them ran for their lives amidst the roars of the zombie horde.

As Lu Nange ran, she waved, and the abandoned vehicles along the roadside disappeared one after another.

The moment she broke through the traffic jam, she turned around abruptly.

"Get on the bus!"

An SUV appeared out of nowhere.

As everyone climbed into the carriage, Lu Nange had already waved her hand behind her back—

"Boom! Boom! Boom!"

The vehicle that had just been stored in the system's inventory suddenly fell from the sky, crashing into the intersection and forming a barrier two or three meters high.

The dull thud of the zombie horde crashing into an obstacle echoed through the air.

The engine of the SUV started up, and the people inside turned their heads simultaneously.

Five shouts, almost tearing their throats, echoed: "Nan Nan, get in the car!"

"Sister, get in the car!"

Lu Nange leaped onto the car in one swift motion, and the tires skidded along the asphalt road as they sped off.

"Are you hurt?" Lu Xici's voice was tense as he gripped Lu Nange's arm.

His gaze swept over her entire body, and his pupils contracted sharply when he saw the black blood stained her hair, face, and clothes.

Lu Nange took out a wet wipe from her spatial storage and wiped her face: "Brother, I'm fine!"

"Lu Nange!" Lu Xici's eyes were bloodshot, and the veins on his neck were bulging. His voice sounded like it was being squeezed out from between his teeth, trembling with lingering fear.

Caught between the two, Lu Beiye suddenly looked up at his little face and said, "Don't you dare yell at my sister!"

Lu Xici's brows furrowed with a hint of malice, and he let out a sneer.

She shoved the little one into Lu Nange's arms: "Fine, I'm the only outsider here!"

His turn was so sudden that the chair slammed against him.

"Brother..." Lu Nange reached out to pull him, but her fingertips stopped in mid-air.

She saw Lu Xici's white-knuckled fingers resting on his temples, his Adam's apple bobbing with difficulty.

The carriage suddenly became eerily quiet, with only the roar of the engine and the sound of breathing remaining.

Lu Xici leaned against Chi Yanzhou, her whole body sinking into the seat, covering her eyes with her arm, and her reddened eye sockets could be vaguely seen between her fingers.

—Nan Nan almost died right in front of him!

As the older brother, he felt like a burden throughout the journey.

He can only rely on his younger siblings for protection!

"Brother Ci," Chi Yanzhou suddenly spoke.

His pale profile was almost transparent in the flickering light and shadow: "Nan Nan has the ability to protect herself, that's the most important thing, isn't it?"

Lu Nange immediately replied, "Brother, I'm strong and fast, so don't worry!"

Lu Beiye blinked and said something surprising: "Brother, do you feel ashamed because you think you're weak?"

“Ah Ye,” He Zhuo interjected quietly, “Why did you give me my ID number when my brother didn’t say a word?”
