Chapter 29 Surrounded on All Sides
He Zhuo was still struggling before getting into the car, but Gu Qi simply shoved him into the passenger seat, his gaze cold and stern: "Do you want Ji Xian to die?"
He Zhuo?
"Which eye of yours saw that? Old Gu, I may be annoyed by that woman, but Ji Xian is my brother. How could I possibly want him dead!"
Gu Qi glanced at him: "Oh, I didn't realize!"
He Zhuo impatiently ruffled his hair: "Can you stop this weirdo, talking in such a sarcastic tone!"
Gu Qi: "Dyeing your hair red makes it seem like your brain is just for show? What kind of world is this? Do you think it's still the old days, that Old Ji and Miss Wen could have survived to the capital without us?"
Upon hearing this, He Zhuo was shocked and understood the implications. He followed Gu Qi's hand and sat in the passenger seat without saying another word.
Considering that Wen An might not be in a good mood, Gu Qi called out to Ji Xian, "Old Ji, you and Miss Wen get in the car, I'll drive!"
Ji Xian picked up Wen An: "An'an, be good. The two of us can't get back to Beijing!"
Without waiting for Wen An's reaction, Ji Xian carried her to the back seat of the SUV.
After Wen An was seated, Gu Qi turned around, grabbed Ji Xian's arm, and closed the car door behind him: "Old Ji, Miss Wen is your girlfriend."
We brothers shouldn't say too much! But Ah Yan didn't stop me just now, out of consideration for our friendship over the years!
After saying that, Gu Qi gently patted Ji Xian's shoulder and turned to walk towards the driver's seat.
The car leading the way was an SUV carrying Gu Qi, He Zhuo, Ji Xian, and Wen An.
In the RV following behind, Chi Yi was driving, and Chi Yanzhou was sitting in the passenger seat.
Lu Nange and Gu Wan shared a room.
The remaining room is for Lu Beiye and Lu Xici.
As soon as she entered the room, Lu Nange greeted everyone and then went to catch up on her sleep.
Gu Wan thought that they were probably too tired from looking for a car last night and hadn't rested well, so she didn't go into the bedroom to disturb Lu Nange, but instead sat down on the sofa in the living room.
Lu Nange lay on the bed, but her mind was frantically checking in.
After using up all the check-in attempts she had recently accumulated, she began to organize her rewards.
Weapons, food, medicine, power-ups, and various enhancements...
She searched through all the rewards, but still couldn't find the gas cylinder she wanted.
There's always a way to overcome difficulties; if all else fails, even cooking over a wood fire will result in a delicious meal!
The city is a scene of decay and desolation.
Garbage was piled up haphazardly, and corpses lay scattered about.
Roadblocks, collapses, crumbling walls...
The car couldn't go very fast in this city ruin full of decay and devastation.
There were no living people to be seen on the road, only zombies wandering around.
Compared to the night, the zombies seem less active during the day.
However, zombies that get too close will pounce on you like sharks smelling blood, without hesitation.
The limbs struck the car body, producing a dull thud.
Then, it was crushed...
Gu Wan gazed quietly out the window, sensing the desolation of the city.
The city center, which used to be a two-hour drive away, is now inaccessible due to large-scale road collapses.
They had to change routes again and again, constantly taking detours.
Around 1 p.m., the temperature was eerily high, so high that the road surface seemed to ripple slightly.
Following Chi Yanzhou's instructions, Chi Yi overtook the SUV in front and then stopped by the roadside.
Seeing this, Gu Qi also stopped the car.
As soon as the car stopped, Lu Xici opened the door and called out to the passenger seat, "Brother Yan, what's wrong?"
Chi Yanzhou tapped the paper map in his hand with his finger bone: "The map shows that there is a supermarket in the high-rise building on the right!"
Hearing the voices, Lu Nange opened the door and went out: "Shall we go down and take a look?"
The ground was a mess, with debris scattered everywhere. Corpses lay piled haphazardly in nearby vehicles, their stiff and twisted limbs...
There was not a single roar or noise from the zombies.
The silence was unsettling; one wondered if the place had already been cleared by other survivors.
Everyone decided to try their luck at the supermarket.
In the end, Ji Xian, Wen An, and Chi Yi stayed behind to guard the vehicle, while the rest of them headed towards the high-rise building.
A deafening roar suddenly erupted.
Everyone looked up at the sky and saw an airplane flying low overhead.
Amidst the whistling wind, a muffled broadcast announcement rang out: [***A resettlement point has been set up; survivors may proceed there...]
The howling wind and the static from the broadcast made the content difficult to hear clearly.
Only a string of broken syllables remained, echoing in the air.
He Zhuo and Gu Wan excitedly waved at the low-flying plane, trying to attract the attention of the people on board.
My arm was waving in the air until it almost dislocated, but it did nothing to help.
Lu Nange, Chi Yanzhou, and the others kept their eyes glued to the direction the plane had passed.
The roar gradually faded, and the plane disappeared into the horizon. Only then did the group slowly turn their gazes away.
When their gaze returned to the ground, their hearts leaped into their throats.
The body that had been lying quietly in the car suddenly began to move in the direction the car was parked, and in the shadows between the buildings, countless heads were moving.
Holy crap!
Run!
"Holy crap, where did all these people come from?!"
Chi Yi and Ji Xian, who were in the car, also noticed something was wrong and immediately started the car, speeding towards the direction where everyone was.
But there were just too many zombies; they stretched out their withered, emaciated hands with sharp nails.
It staggered and swayed towards the group in a bizarre manner, emitting a chilling roar.
The RV arrived first: "Young Master, get in quickly!"
The group hurriedly jumped into the car, but the surrounding roads were completely blocked by zombies.
Swarms of zombies surged forth relentlessly, charging madly toward the vehicle; the stench of decay could be faintly smelled even through the car windows.
There's no way we can break through!
The group hurriedly scanned their surroundings and discovered that the only direction with a slightly smaller number of zombies was the one where the higher-ups had just been preparing to try their luck.
Chi Yi floored the accelerator, and the engine roared to life.
The RV plunged into the open-air first floor of the high-rise building.
Ji Xian's SUV arrived first, and as soon as the car came to a stop,
He then scooped up Wen An and ran towards the fire escape.
Chi Yi followed closely behind, swerving his car so that the tires screeched violently against the ground, sending up a string of dazzling sparks.
It was parked across the entrance to the fire lane.
Chi Yanzhou: "Get out of the car and run upstairs."
The RV was pressed tightly against the wall.
The side door was right next to the stairwell, and Chi Yi and Chi Yanzhou emerged from the side door.
The zombies outside had already poured in.
The sound of "hoho" echoed in their ears, and the group felt a chill run down their spines, their hair stood on end, and their hearts pounded wildly in their chests.
The fire door slammed shut, shutting out the roars of the zombies outside. Without a second thought, everyone turned and ran upstairs.
The footsteps were hurried and chaotic, echoing in the stairwell.
Lu Beiye nestled in Lu Xici's arms, his eyes fixed on Lu Nange: "Sister, hurry up."
He struggled to get down, but Lu Xici held him and looked at Lu Nange.
Seeing that only the four of them remained in the hallway, Lu Nange quickly pulled out an iron rod.
It was precisely inserted between the two door handles, and the moment the iron bar was stuck, it made a dull sound.
Seeing that she had put down the iron rod, Chi Yanzhou didn't care about anything else. He reached out and pulled her over, grabbing her arm and using his wrist to pull her away: "Go!"
