Chapter 1: It Begins in a Dream
"Ding-dong-dong--" the alarm clock kept ringing like a death rattle. Qin Zhiyu looked at the time. It was six o'clock. It was a rare time that he slept until six o'clock.
I still have dreams, but they are not as cramped and depressing as they were a few days ago.
Thinking of this, Qin Zhiyu quickly got up and packed her things. She was on duty today and she had to enter the cell and organize the criminals' activities.
When getting up in the morning, the basic tasks include getting up, taking roll call, washing, tidying up, eating, and cleaning. All of this needs to be completed within half an hour, so time is quite tight.
"Good morning, Prison Guard Qin!" Prisoner No. 30 waved and greeted enthusiastically. Her name is Tao Zhiyan, she is 36 years old and widowed.
The reason was that her husband was often drunk and never came home, driving a motorcycle to hang out with friends. She had endured it for years until one day her husband came back and beat her and her son while drunk. In a fit of rage, she punctured the motorcycle tire, but she didn't expect that her husband was driving drunk and had a car accident. The car crashed into a tree, and both the car and the driver died.
"Good morning, Sister Tao. You look in good spirits today!" Qin Zhiyu greeted with a smile. She had a good relationship with Tao Zhiyan.
The origin of this relationship is that when she entered the prison, she had just passed the exam to become a prison guard, and then took over the jurisdiction of this area. She was more concerned about everything and everyone here.
Secondly, after Tao Zhiyan was tried by the law, she became depressed and often wanted to commit suicide. When Qin Zhiyu first came, he was very enthusiastic about his work and often counseled her. As a result of their interactions, they became acquaintances.
Qin Zhiyu has worked here for more than a year, dealing with different prisoners. She did not take care of any extremely vicious prisoners, and most of the others had a tragic story behind them.
Gradually, Qin Zhiyu lost her original warm-heartedness and became too easy to talk to, making her inconvenient to manage these prisoners. Over time, she also developed a cold and expressionless face. Tao Zhiyan was the only exception.
It was about five or six hundred meters from the cell to the workshop. In the middle, Qin Zhiyu met other colleagues. This job was boring and monotonous, with no entertainment. He was familiar with the colleagues on duty, and they nodded to each other as a greeting.
During this period, Qin Zhiyu organized the team, gave orders, completed routine work, brought the prisoners to their destination, and after finishing his work, returned to the production area and office area.
"Qin Zhiyu, there's a new crayfish restaurant. Let's go eat there after our shift."
Cai Linlang saw Qin Zhiyu coming back, looked up and winked at her.
Qin Zhiyu's expression and behavior have been a little strange recently. They are the only two girls who are new in this place, and the working environment is very special, so it is inevitable that she will have psychological problems.
Seeing that she didn't seem distracted today, Cai Linlang felt that she should take this opportunity to go out and talk to her and enlighten her.
But Qin Zhiyu now has no interest in eating crayfish.
"Sorry, Linlang, I'm not feeling well today. I want to take advantage of the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday to have a good rest after I go back, and take a leave to adjust myself. I'll treat you again when I go back to work later, okay?"
Qin Zhiyu knew that the fulfillment of this promise would probably be a long way off, and there was no way to explain it to her.
Should I tell Cai Linlang that because of the dream about the natural disaster, I should tell her that the disaster is coming and tell her to exercise quickly to improve some basic survival skills?
Regardless of whether Cai Linlang believed it or not, she would never say these things. As for making it public, there is a high probability that she would be arrested and treated as a lunatic, and would be transformed from a prison guard into a prisoner under supervision. Qin Zhiyu did not want to test the red line.
"Well, Zhiyu, you must take good care of yourself and don't take these things too seriously."
"Our job pays well, so we have to endure more than others. Those seniors have all gone through this, and I believe we can do it too."
Cai Linlang looked into Qin Zhiyu's eyes and said seriously that she sincerely hoped that Qin Zhiyu would be fine.
After all, they had come to the company together, and Zhiyu was a generous and low-key person. They were very comfortable together, and she didn't want to lose such a good partner in the future.
"Okay, Linlang, don't worry too much. Actually, I'm fine. I'll be fine after a while. Thank you, Linlang."
Qin Zhiyu also smiled at Cai Linlang, revealing a shallow dimple. She knew the true meaning of Linlang's words, but it was inconvenient to tell her these things. She would give her a hint when there was a chance later.
"Go home and have a good rest. When you're ready, I'll wait for you to treat me to crayfish!" Cai Linlang also smiled, squinting her round eyes, revealing a hint of mischief.
"Okay, I'll go back first. Bye."
While talking, Qin Zhiyu was busy with his hands. In fact, he didn't have anything with him. He took his personal belongings and went home.
The first thing Qin Zhiyu did when he got home was to write down the dream he had last night.
The fourth natural disaster was the flood. Thanks to the previous accumulation, I felt relatively relaxed in the few days before the disaster, and my dreams were not as gloomy as in the previous days.
After recording it, Qin Zhiyu read it again to deepen her memory of her dream. For the past month, she had woken up in this way almost every night.
From pitch-black nights, days of high temperatures, torrential rain, to devastating floods, Qin Zhiyu experienced one natural disaster after another in his dreams.
When the first natural disaster struck, all human creations on Earth were transformed into raw materials. Everything except the technology in the brain disappeared. All people on Earth were bound to a natural disaster survival guide, and they could only survive by following the guide.
Qin Zhiyu was as anxious as everyone else. Every morning, he would calculate how much food he had left, how to find materials to upgrade his shelter, and how to defeat the alien race while avoiding attacks from his own people.
Qin Zhiyu initially thought it was a nightmare, but as she was prone to dreaming, she didn't take it to heart.
As the nightmares became longer and more frequent, even the faces of men and women who were originally unclear became clearer.
She began to take these dreams seriously, and the first thing she did every day when she woke up was to write them down so as not to forget them.
During the day, apart from working, she would carefully read the recorded dreams. Her colleagues were very surprised to see that she, who used to work diligently, was now studying with a notebook in her hands and looked absent-minded every day.
They thought she had met all kinds of prisoners and been exposed to too many dark sides, which was difficult for a young girl who had just worked for a few years to bear.
Even her boss had talked to her several times, asking her not to be too obsessed with the impact of the environment. It is hard to find a job these days, and it is even harder to find a stable job with good pay. Everyone goes through this, and it will be fine after you get through it.
Qin Zhiyu, who usually regards work as her life, did not listen to her leader's advice. She found that her dreams became more frequent and profound.
The dream did not tell her when the natural disaster would come, but she knew that time was running out and she had to hurry up and remember the details of the natural disaster, lest the natural disaster turn everything into raw materials and she would then have to rely on her memories.
So Qin Zhiyu took this opportunity to ask his leader for a vacation, and the leader naturally did not stop him.
There weren't many people working for this job, and even fewer young girls. I couldn't let the pressure scare people away, so I agreed readily.
Ever since the dream began, Qin Zhiyu has stepped up his exercise. Regardless of whether this natural disaster is true or false, a good body is the capital of revolution.
Qin Zhiyu packed up simply, had lunch, and then called Wei Xinglan, a classmate he met at the sports school.
"Hello, Qin Zhiyu, it's rare for you to call me. What's the matter? Do you want to catch up with me as classmates?"
Wei Xinglan quickly answered the phone and said with a smile.
"Of course we have to continue the friendship between old classmates, but I also have some important matters that I need your help with."
Qin Zhiyu knew that his classmate was the only son in the family and came from a relatively well-off family, so he was like this with everything. So he didn't argue with him and went straight to the point.
"Oh, it's so rare that you'd call me for something! It seems like I'm the only one who can do this, so I'm afraid I have no choice but to do it!"
Wei Xinglan raised his eyebrows. He didn't expect to receive her call again after so many years.
He agreed not out of loyalty, of course. He owed Qin Zhiyu a lot of favors back then, and now that he had the chance, he naturally had to repay him.
"Can you teach me some simple self-defense techniques?"
"I want self-defense skills, and I want them to be simple... Old classmate, are you trying to make things difficult for me?"
"I just think that I can be safer if I learn self-defense. After all, you know my profession."
"Okay, I could have taught you a few tricks myself, but I have a mission in two days, so I'm a bit pressed for time. I can only send you the instructional video later."
"OK, thanks."
Seeing that his martial arts training plan was taking shape, Qin Zhiyu began today's training.
Tie a two-pound sandbag to each hand and foot, and run three laps around the mountain in the community.
Since Qin Zhiyu believed everything that happened in the dream, he naturally had to do something to deal with it.
A natural disaster apocalypse is not like other types of zombies or something. If you are lucky enough to know about it in advance, you can stock up on supplies and build a safe fortress in the apocalypse.
She only knew about natural disasters in the first round, so she could only think about exercising and learning some self-defense techniques.
Yes, Qin Zhiyu called the dream "the first round". No matter whether the dream was a real thing from the previous life or a precognitive dream, she is now replaying the game and the name "the first round" is understandable.
So she called Wei Xinglan, thinking that his family had nurtured him since he was a child, teaching him self-defense skills such as Taekwondo and martial arts. He had bravely stood up for justice in college and showed his extraordinary skills. Later, he directly joined the army, so his skills must have been even better.
I heard that Wei Xinglan now has a military rank, but this is not the focus of Qin Zhiyu's attention.
Although I cannot practice martial arts from a young age like him and lay a solid foundation for it, I have a direction to practice, so I can continue learning even when the end of the world comes.
This is my first time writing, I hope you will support me~
