Just ten minutes later, a group of soldiers escorted a man in his fifties wearing glasses out of the office building.
"who is he?"
Ye Lei asked Tang Xiaoting.
"Isn't that Chief Engineer Li?"
Tang Xiaoting definitely recognized it; it was her workplace.
Who is Chief Engineer Li?
Ye Lei certainly didn't know, but he felt that this person must be very important.
"Chief Engineer Li is our chief engineer, responsible for the entire weapons development technology. He's a senior engineer!"
"What are the military personnel taking him to do?"
"I don't know either. I've never heard of him having direct contact with the military before. Our research institute is under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Ordnance and has no connection with the military."
Tang Xiaoting has already made herself very clear.
"That's strange. Could it be that the military needs him to develop some kind of weapon?"
Ye Lei guessed.
"But then again, Chief Engineer Li only knows how to research weapons."
Tang Xiaoting said with a smile that professional technical personnel are only useful in their professional fields.
"Weapons, new weapons, I think I've got an idea."
Tang Xiaoting's words seemed to remind Ye Lei.
"What's on your mind? Tell me."
Tang Xiaoting also became interested.
"Think about it, how should we deal with this ever-increasing number of zombies?"
"I heard they're developing a vaccine!"
Have you heard any progress?
"It seems not."
"Since we can't turn them back into humans, then the only option is..."
Ye Lei made a throat-cutting motion.
"No way, are we really going to do this?"
"Of course."
Ye Lei recounted his encounter with the Type 053 destroyer and military personnel capturing zombies on the street.
"You mean you want Chief Engineer Li to develop weapons for killing zombies? That's impossible!"
"What's impossible? With so many zombies, it can't be like the NJ massacre, can it?"
Ye Lei was now certain that his guess was correct.
"If it really is a weapon for killing zombies, only Chief Engineer Li has the capability to do so."
"You'll see if you don't believe me."
As they were talking, Chief Engineer Li had already gotten into the military jeep. His furrowed brows showed that his expression was very serious.
Soon, military trucks carrying jeeps came out.
Ye Lei realized it was too late to leave now, and could only pray that he wouldn't be discovered. He didn't want to have anything to do with the military for the time being.
Unfortunately, when the truck driver drove up to the Mercedes SUV, he was clearly attracted by the luxury car, and more importantly, he saw Ye Lei and Tang Xiaoting sitting inside.
It was obvious that the driver said something into the walkie-talkie, and then the entire convoy stopped. Ye Lei knew they had been discovered.
A major got out of the jeep. Wasn't that the same major he had met at Yunfan Wharf, the one on the Type 053 destroyer? Ye Lei remembered him clearly.
Since they had been discovered, Ye Lei and Tang Xiaoting had no choice but to get out of the car.
"Hello, may I ask who you are?"
The major remained very polite.
“I work for this company. I came back to pick up some things, and he came with me.”
Tang Xiaoting reacted quite quickly.
"You said you're an employee of Research Institute 6015, right?"
"yes!"
"Please ask Chief Engineer Li to come over here."
The major spoke to the soldiers behind him, and soon Chief Engineer Li was brought over.
"Chief Engineer Li, this lady says she's an employee of Research Institute 6015. Do you know her?"
Chief Engineer Li glanced at Tang Xiaoting; of course he recognized her.
"I know her, her name is Tang Xiaoting."
"Chief Engineer Li, what are you doing here?"
Tang Xiaoting was about to go over and greet Chief Engineer Li when she was stopped by the major.
"Alright, now that you know each other, I'm relieved. You can go in now, but be careful, there might be zombies inside."
The major did not want Tang Xiaoting to have any contact with Chief Engineer Li.
"Yes, thank you, Major!"
Ye Lei gave a somewhat imperfect military salute. The major glanced at him and returned the salute, then suddenly his expression changed.
"I feel like I've seen you somewhere before?"
Ye Lei suddenly remembered that he had saluted last time, which probably reminded the major. Damn it! Ye Lei cursed inwardly.
"Major, you must be mistaken. We've never met before!"
"But the way you saluted just now felt very familiar to me."
The major was still trying his best to recall.
"You might have misremembered!"
It was that damned military salute that caused all the trouble.
"No, no, I never doubt my memory. Let me think."
The scene immediately fell silent. Ye Lei wondered how he would explain if Ye Lei remembered this.
Just then, a soldier ran over, saluted the major, and shouted, "Major, the general asked when we're going back?"
"Go back immediately."
The report broke the silence and brought the major to an end of his thoughts.
"Let's go back immediately, Chief Engineer Li, please!"
The major glanced back at Ye Lei twice as he walked, but he just couldn't remember.
The convoy set off quickly. Ye Lei knew that the major would definitely remember this when he returned, and if they met again next time, there would be no way to avoid it.
Do you really know each other?
Tang Xiaoting watched the convoy drive away into the distance.
"Of course, he is the major I met at Yunfan Wharf last time on the Type 053 destroyer."
"Ah, it really is them. In that case, it's quite possible that they asked Chief Engineer Li to develop a weapon for mass killing zombies."
