Chapter 52 You actually live in this neighborhood too?

"Dad, let me introduce you!"

After the warm family reunion, Xia Yuhe remembered Ye Lei.

"This is the friend I told you about, his name is Ye Lei."

"Hello, Uncle and Aunt."

Ye Lei behaved very honestly in front of his elders.

"Ye Lei, thank you so much for taking care of my daughter!"

Mr. Xia is a knowledgeable and cultured person; his way of speaking is quite different.

"Uncle, you're welcome. We're classmates, it's only right. This is some food I brought for you, please eat first, you must be starving!"

Ye Lei handed them a large bag of food. The two men's eyes lit up when they saw the food; they must have been starving for a long time.

"Ye Lei, thank you so much! There's so much food. How can I possibly thank you enough!"

"Uncle, don't say that, please have something to eat first!"

"well!"

Xia Yuhe's parents took out the food, tore open the packaging, and began to wolf it down.

People only show their true colors when they are hungry.

"Dad, Mom, eat slowly, don't choke!"

Watching them wolf down their food, Xia Yuhe couldn't help but feel a little uneasy. The lofty image she once held in her mind was now like a piece of porcelain that had been smashed on the ground, cracked and somewhat diminished.

Worried that the two of them might choke, she rushed forward like an arrow, unscrewed a bottle of purified water, and handed it to her parents.

After the two elderly people finished their meal in a flash, they finally stopped, constantly rubbing their chests with their hands, as if they were fish out of water and had just received some sweet rain.

Upon seeing this, Ye Lei suddenly realized that in this apocalypse, survival was the most important thing.

"Uncle, Auntie, are you feeling better?"

"Much better, much better! After so many days, I can finally fill my stomach!"

"Mother Xia said with a smile."

"Mom, how have you been spending all these days?"

Xia Yuhe didn't know how they managed to get through it.

"It's all thanks to your dad's quick thinking. After the apocalypse broke out, your dad ran to the convenience store in our neighborhood and grabbed some food, which is how we survived. Otherwise, we would have really starved to death!"

Xia's mother's simple words were actually quite difficult to express.

"Uncle is really amazing."

Ye Lei understood that only praise would win their favor.

"What's so impressive about that? I didn't even get as much as your bag. How do you have so much food?"

"Oh, I went to rob it too."

Ye Lei's statement is actually correct.

Where did you steal so much?

"supermarket."

"I heard it's full of zombies there, aren't you afraid?"

"I have my own way of doing things."

Ye Lei didn't want to talk about it, and even if he did, they wouldn't believe him.

"Dad, Mom, what are your plans next?"

"We still need to find a way to get to the military's shelter."

"But I heard a lot of people went, is it still possible to go?"

Ye Lei expressed his concerns.

“I’ve heard about it too. I heard that identity verification is required, and different people receive different treatment. Most people are outside, and only a few can enter the shelter.”

It seemed that Xia's father had already found out quite a bit.

"Oh, you're still going? What if you can't get into the shelter?"

“Yuhe, no, I’ve already checked. We can enter the shelter. After all, we are still public servants.”

Xia's father said in a deep voice, "Ye Lei also knows this. It's terrifying to think about. Ordinary people probably won't be able to get in. Being able to stay on the outer perimeter is already a rare privilege."

Tomato City has a permanent population of nearly one million. Apart from those who have turned into zombies or are already dead, there are hundreds of thousands of survivors.

The hastily constructed shelters had limited capacity.

With such a large population still needing to eat, one can imagine how difficult life must have been in the shelter.

However, Ye Lei really wanted to find out just how many zombies the many survivors would attract.

The shelter may already be completely surrounded.

"Uncle, can we go now?"

Ye Lei didn't want to linger here too long; he had many other things to do.

"Okay, let's go."

Xia's father picked up the unfinished food and prepared to leave. In this apocalypse, only food matters.

"Please wait a moment, I'll go pack some clothes."

Xia's mother was quite thoughtful; once she went, she might not come back.

"Mom, hurry up, or the zombies will come."

Xia Yuhe knew that Ye Lei hated waiting, and she was worried that he would get angry if it took too long.

"Soon, very soon!"

After finishing her sentence, Xia's mother went into the bedroom.

Knowing that things would happen quickly, Ye Lei went to the balcony to check the situation outside.

He had just stepped onto the balcony when he suddenly heard someone shouting from the opposite window.

"Ye Lei, is that you?"

How come there's someone here who recognizes me? Has he become a celebrity?

Ye Lei doubted his own ears as he opened the balcony window.

"Ye Lei, it's me, Ke Juan!"

Ke Juan? Could she be the woman I chased for so long back at Tomato University, but never managed to win her over?

Ye Lei looked across the street and finally saw waving hands at a window. It really was the woman he had once pursued. So she lived here too!

"Ke Juan, what's wrong?"

Ye Lei responded politely.

Xia Yuhe heard the sound and came over.

"You two know each other?"

"Of course I know her! She's the woman I've been pursuing for ages but haven't been able to win over!"
