Chapter 186 Helpless

"Mammy, you're too worried. The eldest prince has sent more people to look for the young master. I believe he will be back soon."

Nanny Wang sighed deeply. It’s not that easy as it sounds.

The servant driving the carriage in front also gritted his teeth and moved forward. The lanterns didn't illuminate much, and the road was all dirt, so the carriage wasn't moving very fast.

During the day, the road is clear and the carriage can go faster. But in the pitch black night, it is impossible to go faster even if we want to.

Finally, around midnight, Nanny Wang and the others arrived at the city gate.

"Who are you outside the city? You can't enter the city now. Wait until the city gate opens tomorrow morning." The soldiers on duty on the city wall shouted loudly.

"We are from the eldest prince's mansion. Here is the token. Open the city gate quickly." The servant held up the token that Chunhua had just handed to him.

After a while, two soldiers came down from the city wall and opened the city gate.

The servant showed them the token again. The officers and soldiers took it and saw that it was indeed the token from the eldest prince's palace. They opened the city gate and let Nanny Wang and her carriage into the city.

After the two carriages entered the city, the officers and soldiers closed the city gate again.

At this moment, the streets in the city were particularly quiet, and the carriages passing by quickly caused some dogs to bark.

Chunhua's head nodded slowly inside the carriage. Nanny Wang reached out and lifted the curtain on the carriage, looking out. Finally, they were almost at the eldest prince's mansion.

Finally they arrived at the eldest prince's mansion, and the servant got out of the car and knocked on the door.

"Who is it? It's so late. Come back tomorrow." An impatient voice came through the door.

"Hurry up and open the door! Sister Chunhua and Nanny Wang are back from the farm outside the city."

After a rustling sound, the door of the eldest prince's mansion was opened.

Chunhua supported Nanny Wang, and the two of them hurried toward the backyard. The four little girls had to trot to keep up.

"Shunzi, Sister Chunhua and Nanny Wang, why are you back so late?"

"Okay, stop asking about things that are not your responsibility." The coachman drove the carriage into the mansion swiftly.

"Okay, I won't ask, okay?" The servant who opened the door waited until all the carriages entered the mansion before quickly closing and locking the door again.

It took Nanny Wang and her group more than twenty minutes to reach the backyard.

A little girl went up and knocked on the door.

"Who is it? You're asleep at this hour."

"Open the door, Sister Chunhua and Nanny Wang are back." The little girl said in a low voice.

After a creaking sound, the gate was opened.

"Sister Chunhua, Nanny Wang."

"Is the Grand Concubine asleep?"

"Madam Wang, the eldest princess just came back from the small Buddhist temple. She should not be asleep yet at this time." Before the little girl finished her words, Madam Wang and Chunhua disappeared.

Nanny Wang quickly came to the Grand Princess's bedroom and knocked quietly on the door.

“Who’s knocking at the door?

"Xia He, it's me and Nanny Wang. Open the door quickly."

"Here I come, here I come."

After waiting for two minutes, Xia He came over holding an oil lamp and opened the door.

"Madame Wang, why didn't you wait until tomorrow to come back? It's so late now, have you eaten? I'll ask the little girl to prepare food for you." Xia He looked at Madame Wang in surprise.

"It's okay. I'm still pretty useful in my old age. It's just a night walk."

"When did the Grand Concubine go to bed?" Nanny Wang asked in a low voice.

"Xia He, who is knocking on the door? Is Chunhua back? This girl went out to buy some paper and came back in the middle of the night?" The weak voice of the eldest princess came over.

"The little girl guarding the gate said that the eldest princess just came back from the small Buddhist temple. Has the eldest princess eaten? Has she taken her medicine?" Nanny Wang stared at Xia He.

"Madam, the Grand Princess only took a few bites and stopped eating. She didn't take the medicine tonight either." Xia He lowered her head in self-blame.

"Okay, Xia He, now is not the time to blame yourself. Quickly ask the little girl to prepare the meal. I will eat with the Grand Concubine. Tell them to heat up the Grand Concubine's medicine and serve it after dinner."

"Chunhua, you should go wash up and change your clothes. Go to bed quickly after dinner. I'll be here for the Grand Princess." Nanny Wang touched Chunhua's hair lovingly.

"Okay, I'll listen to you, Nanny. Now that you're back, we have a backbone." Chunhua said with relief.

"Xia He, is Chunhua back? Why isn't she answering?" The voice of the eldest princess came again.

"Okay, both of you go out. Remember to have the little girl guard the door. When the meal is ready, come in and tell me."

After saying this, Nanny Wang took off her outer cloak and handed it to Xia He.

"Grand Princess, it's me, Nanny Wang is back." Nanny Wang said as she quickly walked to the inner room.

"Madame Wang, it's really you. Why are you back now? Are you feeling better now?"

"Oh, my lady, you must put on some clothes. It's getting a little cold."

Nanny Wang helped the eldest princess to the bedside and put a thin vest on her.

"Mammy, you haven't answered me yet? Why did you come back in the middle of the night?"

"My lady, so many things have happened in the mansion, and you didn't send anyone to tell me. Look at you, how thin you have become now! You are really going to make me die of heartache!"

Nanny Wang touched the Grand Concubine's thinner arm and looked at her face in the light. Sure enough, her face was pale and lifeless. Nanny Wang's tears immediately fell.

"Mammy, I'm telling you, Zirui is missing. There's been no news of him since."

"I have nightmares every night. I dream that Zirui has no food to eat, no water to drink, and is as thin as a beggar."

"I also dreamed that many people were chasing Zirui and his wet nurse."

"Miss, I know everything. Chunhua told me everything. If you want to cry, cry. Mammy won't laugh at you. If you are sad, cry it out. Don't hold it in."

Nanny Wang hugged the eldest princess and patted her back gently.

"Mammy, Mammy, I feel so sad." The eldest princess burst into tears.

"Miss, cry, it will be better if you cry. Mammy is here. Mammy will never leave you again."

Nanny Wang hugged the Grand Concubine and shed tears of sadness. She regretted why she had fallen ill during this period.

When the eldest princess encountered such a thing, and there was no one in the palace to discuss it with, she would definitely have all sorts of wild thoughts in her mind.

The eldest prince has been busy with military affairs lately and has no time to return home. Even if he did return, he would leave quickly.

At this time, the Grand Concubine was so helpless and alone. The maids Chunhua and Xiahe were still young and could not do anything. From now on, no matter how seriously ill she was, she would not leave the mansion and would recuperate in the mansion. This way, the Grand Concubine would have someone to rely on when she encountered problems.

Outside the door, Chunhua, Xiahe and four other maids were there.
