Chapter 153 A disgraceful thing

"What's going on!"

No sooner had the fat woman finished speaking than a stern female voice approached from the corridor before Li Xin'er and the others could speak.

The dormitory building's manager is a surviving female officer from the base, in her forties, with neat short hair and an imposing gaze.

The fat woman's expression changed instantly upon hearing the sound; she slapped her thigh and started wailing at the top of her lungs.

"Oh no! They're going to kill me! They'll come in and beat me up!"

"My face is bleeding!"

"They're just bullying me because I'm a woman and I have no one to back me up!"

The sound was so loud it hurt her ears. Li Xin'er took a few steps back in disgust and went to the doorway.

When the administrator heard that someone had committed murder, he specifically ordered the base's internal patrol team to follow the suspect.

The patrol team consisted of eight people. Judging from their uniforms, three of them were from the military, while the others were likely recruited young men.

The three leaders were armed and fully equipped, while the other five carried security shields and triangular forks.

The administrator was somewhat surprised to see Assistant Wang and Li Xin'er at the entrance.

Because Li Xin'er and the others had just gone upstairs, the administrator had seen the credentials that Assistant Wang had brought.

Knowing Assistant Wang's identity, one knows that Li Xin'er is no ordinary person.

The administrator and Assistant Wang exchanged a glance, and the two approached each other without saying a word. At the door, Assistant Wang explained the reason for the matter in a low voice.

Seeing that the two were still whispering to each other, the fat woman forgot about sitting on the ground and howling. She jumped up and howled at them.

"You're all in cahoots!"

Because of the patrol team, she only dared to howl, not to physically pull or tug at them.

The administrator was furious and turned to scold him:

"Shut up, Yu Chunhua! You're always causing trouble. Looks like you didn't learn your lesson last time!"

Have you forgotten what you promised last time? If there's a next time, you won't get a single bed!

Yu Chunhua was starting to feel timid. Seeing how familiar Assistant Wang and the administrator were, she was afraid of official collusion and that she would end up being the one to suffer.

Her eyes darted away, avoiding the administrator's gaze, and her defiant rebuttals became much quieter.

“She hit me this time, I didn’t cause any trouble.”

As she spoke, she deliberately brought her injured face closer so the administrator could see it clearly.

The administrator felt that Yu Chunhua was simply unreasonable.

"What era are we living in! You stole someone's food, shouldn't you be beaten?"

"You're stealing food from a little kid! You're a grown man, where's your shame?"

More and more people gathered in the stairwell, all wanting to get closer and see what was going on.

The administrator felt that this wasn't a big deal and didn't want to make a big fuss about it.

Everyone is very busy now. If it weren't for the people in charge, who would have the energy to deal with these trivial matters? With so many people living together every day, there are bound to be all sorts of conflicts and frictions.

Her tone was harsh, and she asked seriously:

"Here, you must obey orders and discipline; otherwise, you will leave the base. Yu Chunhua, do you hear me?"

Upon hearing that she had to leave the base, Yu Chunhua immediately cowered and quickly nodded.

“I will obey, of course I will obey.”

The outside is teeming with zombies. We finally made it into the base, and if we get kicked out, we're doomed.

In that short time, Yu Chunhua figured out what was more important.

Assistant Wang, being perceptive, stepped forward to respond.

"Our demand is that she compensate for the food she took and apologize to the child."

The administrator thought this was quite reasonable, nodded slightly, and then looked at Yu Chunhua again.

"Yu Chunhua, what do you have to say?"

Yu Chunhua bit her lip, feeling unwilling but helpless.

"I apologize."

Then she looked troubled, revealing an expression that was even more unsightly than crying.

"But I don't have enough stomach to repay her; the meals they give me every day aren't even enough..."

This time, as I was talking, I really started to cry.

The administrators were aware of the situation. Resources were limited; providing three meals a day for tens of thousands of people was a major problem, and the amount each person received was indeed very small.

"this···"

Li Xin'er, who had been silently watching the show from the sidelines, finally spoke up.

"If we don't have sausages, we can use other things to make up for it. What we want is an attitude."

Yu Chunhua thought that since she had said all that, and these people had connections with officials, they certainly wouldn't be short of a sausage, so the matter would just be dropped.

Besides, Li Xin'er just slapped her, so it's not unreasonable to say that it cancels out. If you really want to say something, she's the one who lost out...

Who would have thought that Li Xin'er would ask her to give something as collateral?

She was shocked and looked up at Li Xin'er in disbelief. This woman was even more tolerant of being taken advantage of than she was.

Li Xin'er immediately saw her confusion and scoffed.

"I hit you because your mouth was foul and you knew what you shouldn't have said."

Your taking the food is a separate matter; let's keep that one thing separate from the other.

Upon hearing this, the administrator couldn't help but glance at Li Xin'er again. Although... but... what she said made a lot of sense.

The administrator clenched his fist, covered his mouth, and coughed lightly.

"Well, it's decided then. Yu Chunhua apologizes to the child. If she can't afford ham sausages, she'll offer something else as compensation."

Yu Chunhua was most afraid of the administrator. Knowing she couldn't avoid it, she finally resigned herself to her fate and said, "Okay."

The patrol team followed behind, watching a 'show' from which they had absolutely no say. Seeing that the matter was resolved, they said goodbye to the administrator and hurried away.

They need to continue patrolling; if they are away from their posts for too long, something could happen and cause trouble.
