Chapter 190 We Have No Other Choice

Lu Chen returned to his office and dialed Lu Zheng's number at the Xinghuo Base.

"Hello?"

The call connected, and Lu Zheng's authoritative voice, though not angry, came through the receiver.

“Last night I made a deal with Li Xin’er. It’s for medicines that our base in S City urgently needs.”

Lu Zheng assumed Lu Chen was calling to ask for his approval on the feasibility of the matter, and readily agreed.

"Okay, let's test the waters first."

Lu Chen continued, "The list of medicines I gave you last night appeared out of thin air inside the base before dawn this morning."

"Appeared out of thin air?"

Lu Zheng was somewhat surprised. He trusted Lu Chen and wouldn't use that description casually unless it was confirmed that Lu Chen had indeed appeared out of thin air.

So Lu Chen became curious about how it could appear out of thin air, and he pressed for an answer:

"What exactly happened? And what did she want in exchange for this deal?"

Immediately afterwards, Lu Chen recounted in detail everything that had happened between him and Li Xin'er during dinner last night, up to the events of today.

After he finished speaking, there was a long silence on the other end of the phone.

Then, Lu Zheng let out a long, weary sigh.

His voice, at that moment, seemed to have aged considerably.

"We have no other choice, do we?"

Even knowing that Li Xin'er was highly suspicious, they had no choice but to believe her now.

If the apocalypse is truly as Li Xin'er says, then the real test for humanity is yet to come.

Lu Chen's mood also became heavy. "Don't worry, there will be a way."

Lu Zheng composed himself, mustered his spirits, and gave instructions:

"I will go to the lab to follow up on the crystal core issue. The transaction will continue. I will try my best to meet her requirements and win her over."

"And... I'll let Lu Jin'an go first..."

The sound on the phone started to drop again, so Lu Chen stood up, as if the signal would be better if he stood higher.

"The signal is a bit weak, can you hear me?"

"I...this..."

The noise on the phone grew louder and louder, the signal got worse and worse, until finally not a single word could be heard, only the hissing of static remained.

Lu Chen put down the phone he had been holding to his ear and looked down to check the phone's status.

Just then, a series of noisy shouts and screams suddenly came from outside.

"Look, what's that?"

Something fell from the sky!

Was it a shooting star or a meteorite?

Upon hearing this, Lu Chen's expression changed drastically, and he grabbed the phone and rushed out of the office.

As soon as I stepped outside, I saw a huge, unidentified object on the distant horizon, trailing a thick tail of black smoke as it hurtled toward the ground.

Lu Jin'an happened to be running upstairs at that moment, holding a list and a stack of A4 papers. He stood next to Lu Chen, staring into the distance.

"It's a satellite."

At that moment, members of the Dragon Flame team from the adjacent office, along with the informant brought by Lu Chen, rushed out of the office almost simultaneously, their faces filled with panic.

"Captain! The signal has been completely lost!"

"Mr. Lu, the signal is gone!"

At that moment, the falling satellite landed in a place unseen by the base, in a sea area of China.

Immediately afterwards, chaos erupted in the base's office building.

The only surviving satellite of China has fallen, which means that from this moment on, all communication equipment that relies on signal reception will become obsolete.

Compared to China, other countries didn't react much at this point, since they had already cut off their signals in the first place.

It was already late at night in Country Y.

Carl found Gavin completely drunk in the basement where the wine was stored.

The wine cellar was dimly lit, with only a small, rechargeable orange nightlight, which the falcon had specifically brought to place there.

Gavin sat on the floor, leaning against the wine rack, surrounded by countless wine bottles.

Hearing the noise, the slow-witted man belatedly turned his head, glanced at Carl, and let out a soft chuckle.

"Boss, this red wine isn't too strong, want a bottle?"

As he spoke, he held the bottle and raised it towards Carl.

Carl didn't respond. He walked straight up to Gavin, stood opposite him, and looked down at him.

Under the light, Carl's shadow was magnified several times, completely enveloping Gavin on the ground.

Carl stared at the top of his head and asked coldly, "Why?"

Gavin paused for a moment, then swayed from side to side, pretending not to hear, and took a sip of wine while holding the bottle.

Carl saw right through his reaction. "Stop pretending, I know you understood."

Carl asked again patiently:

"Why are you stopping us from liking her? What do you know? Or are you hiding something?"

Gavin froze again, and the cellar fell silent enough that you could hear a pin drop.

Carl wasn't in a hurry; he just remained in a stalemate, waiting for Carl's answer.

After a long while, Gavin slowly raised his head to look at Carl. His face was flushed, and he did look somewhat drunk, even hiccuping as he spoke.

"Boss, if... I mean if, knowing it won't end well, you... hiccup... would you still like her?"

Upon hearing this, Carl suddenly laughed. He rarely laughed, let alone laughed so openly, even showing his teeth in a bright smile.

In his eyes, as he looked at Gavin, there was a helpless, indulgent look, like that of an older brother towards his immature younger brother.

"In your eyes, am I such a coward?"
