When Ma Ruicai said this, his expression was smug, with undisguised schadenfreude.
Qin Siye raised his fist and punched Ma Ruicai in the face. One punch wasn't enough, so he punched again and again, venting his anger with a vicious beating.
"You beast! I'll kill you!"
While Qin Siye was beating up Ma Ruicai, the survivors looked at each other in fear, their expressions suggesting they wanted to take the opportunity to escape.
Unbeknownst to them, their every move was being watched by Li Xin'er.
Just as one of the bolder ones, eager to try, lifted his foot to slip away, Li Xin'er spoke softly.
"Since this is related to you, why don't you explain yourself clearly before you leave?"
She spoke softly, her thin lips barely parted, as if she hadn't made a sound, but her words seemed to explode in their ears and strike their hearts, sending a shiver down their spines.
The person who had raised their foot silently withdrew it and stood properly.
Li Xin'er didn't need to turn her head to know that a small number of zombies had already climbed over from the abandoned truck.
She reminded Qin Siye, who was still in a rage.
"That's enough. It's not too late to deal with it after we've finished asking the questions."
Li Xin'er's words successfully made Qin Siye 'apply the brakes', and his raised fist stopped in mid-air.
He tugged at Ma Ruicai's collar again, pulling the limp, pig-faced Ma Ruicai a little closer to him.
Where is it?
When Qin Siye asked this question, his voice was already choked with emotion.
That person was his childhood friend, someone who said he'd be his navigator for life, someone he'd promised to go home with...
Ma Ruicai was spitting out mouthfuls of blood, seemingly delirious and unable to speak.
At this moment, Qin Siye felt a little annoyed. He had been too impulsive and had gone too far.
Li Xin'er remained expressionless. She glanced at Ma Ruicai, then looked up at the group of people.
"Who said that?"
It is simple and clear, yet it contains a sense of oppression that makes people dare not resist.
Everyone fell silent and lowered their heads, remaining quiet for a moment. Li Xin'er continued:
"The zombies will be at our position in two minutes."
Just one reminder was enough to make everyone panic, and they all looked up in the direction they had come from.
It was clear that some scattered zombies had indeed rolled over, while the others, due to the sheer number of zombies, were crammed together and were about to push a hole in the truck.
Now, they couldn't stay calm.
The first to speak was the oldest-looking one, who let out a long, sorrowful sigh.
"We're just trying to protect ourselves."
The others nodded in agreement, eagerly echoing this reason. Although they had guessed it, or someone had seen it, they didn't want to cause trouble and were afraid of being implicated, so they pretended not to know.
Li Xin'er, however, lacked the patience to feign compassion and give these people the crocodile tears they offered.
"My time is limited."
The man quickly continued, "During the break for lunch, Qian Leduo went to the restroom with his bag on his back, and he specifically said goodbye to us when he left."
"Then, I saw Ma Ruicai follow Qian Leduo down the alley."
"We all know that Ma Ruicai and Qian Leduo don't get along, so we just made a comment out of curiosity."
At this moment, a younger man interjected:
“I felt that Ma Ruicai might be up to something bad, so I went over to see what was going on.”
At the same time, two more people spoke up.
"We went too."
The young man nodded, "Yeah, it was just the three of us."
"When we got there, we saw Ma Ruicai following Qian Leduo, sneaking into the zoo."
The young man felt ashamed and remorseful.
"The three of us hesitated for a while before we mustered up the courage to follow. When we arrived, we saw Ma Ruicai hitting Qian Leduo on the head with a brick."
“We were startled at the time, and then we made a sound. Ma Rui turned around and looked over. We instinctively ran away.”
"We don't know what happened after that..."
As Li Xin'er listened to their story, her soul power expanded outwards, searching for Qian Leduo in the direction of the zoo.
At this moment, Ma Rui finally recovered. He sat on the ground, which was covered with the blood and foam he had vomited.
"He found the red panda hiding in the grass first. I asked him to hand it over, but he refused, and an argument ensued..."
Combining the statements from both sides, the truth of the matter gradually came to light.
During a break, Qian Leduo went to the restroom and heard a noise coming from the corner of the zoo, so he went to investigate.
When Ma Rui saw him going to the toilet, he initially thought that since he was carrying a bag, it contained food, and he wanted to go and "ask" some.
Following them, they also discovered the red panda. Ma Ruicai was suddenly overcome with cravings. He hadn't eaten meat in a long time and thought that this little thing was quite something. He immediately started fighting with Qian Leduo for it.
Qian Leduo refused, and the two argued. Ma Ruicai gritted his teeth, picked up a brick from the fallen wall, and smashed it down on Qian Leduo's head.
Unexpectedly, the person who was knocking was seen by the others who were with them, but they ran away first.
However, Ma Ruicai panicked for a moment, fearing that the others would go back to the team to complain. But he didn't care about Qian Leduo who had fallen to the ground. He tore off Qian Leduo's backpack and stuffed the little panda into it.
I intended to run away immediately, since Qian Leduo wasn't responding; I didn't know if he was dead or unconscious, but at least he had made a move...
