On her way back after finishing her puppetry practice, Li Xin'er realized that this road was not far from the old town warehouse where she used to stockpile supplies.
Thinking of the supplies she prepared for her assistant Liu Lei, and the key she gave him, I wonder if he has come to pick them up yet.
Since it wasn't far, Li Xin'er decided to take a look at the warehouse while she was there.
This place is remote, and there weren't many people here before the apocalypse. I didn't expect there to be so many people here this time.
Those abandoned factory buildings and warehouses now house a few people, forming a small survivor settlement.
They didn't lock themselves in their rooms; some were cooking together outside, while others were carrying wood and repairing the fence, seemingly planning to stay permanently.
Li Xin'er did not show herself; instead, she remained hidden in the shadows, using her soul power to investigate the situation inside the warehouse.
Her warehouse, which was originally half full of supplies, has disappeared, leaving only a makeshift bed covered with cardboard and a thin blanket.
Upon close inspection, the lock on the roller shutter door is in good condition, with no signs of forced entry.
Inside lived what appeared to be a family of six: two elderly people, two middle-aged people, and a child of different ages.
An elderly man, his head drooping, sat at the doorway, puffing on his long pipe.
The others gathered around an iron stove, cooking and occasionally exchanging a few words with the people next door.
At first glance, you really can't tell that it's already the end of the world.
After carefully searching the other warehouses with his soul power, he still couldn't find Liu Lei or any trace of the supplies.
I reckon the supplies were transported away, and these people arrived later.
Li Xin'er stopped looking for people and turned back to the villa area.
At the dinner table that evening, the vulture's head was practically buried in its rice bowl.
"I ate compressed biscuits outside for lunch because I was thinking about the taste of Chef Sun's cooking."
Back then, when they were on missions, it was common for them to spend ten days or half a month in the deep mountains and forests, and they ate whatever they could find locally. They were nothing like how pampered they are now.
The golden eagle savored the taste of its food, a look of pure enjoyment on its face.
"Life is better than before the end of the world."
The cassowary was nodding in agreement the whole time.
"That's right, I've gained several pounds since I started following Sister Xin."
Carl was too ashamed to look at them, as if he had starved them before, so he immediately changed the subject and talked about what was happening outside that day.
"The base mobilized a lot of people today and even used firearms."
Li Xin'er heard the explosion outside today.
"Has that area been completely investigated?"
While clearing out zombies, the base also goes door-to-door to search for and rescue survivors.
Since they've already started bombing, they must have confirmed that no one was there before doing so.
Carl shook his head. "They lured the zombies to a school playground and then bombarded it repeatedly."
As he spoke, a knowing smile appeared on his face:
"They must be in a hurry to find the crystal core, and I believe it will be delivered soon."
After Carl finished speaking, the pigeon beside him chimed in at the opportune moment:
"By the way, I encountered a special team today."
When Carl and his team went out, they didn't go to particularly dangerous places. After leaving the house, they would split into two or three small teams and act separately.
Today, Carl didn't travel with Pigeon. Apart from Ali, everyone else looked at Pigeon curiously, wondering what this special team he was talking about was.
"A new team has been established at the base, and it's all women."
As soon as the pigeon finished speaking, the vulture lost interest and said dismissively:
"What's so special about that? We have plenty of female mercenary groups and assassin gangs over there."
He would never look down on someone just because they are a woman.
Putting aside Sister Xin's formidable abilities, he encountered many ruthless women during his missions who were just as capable as men in their attacks.
Clearly, others shared the same idea.
Pigeon quickly explained, "They are all ordinary people without any special abilities."
The vulture was a little surprised again. "An ordinary person?"
The pigeon nodded and continued:
"I heard that the incident started because a group of arrogant superhumans in the safe zone almost bullied several women, but fortunately they were discovered and stopped in time."
Then someone took the lead and organized these women who had no family and were often bullied into this special group.
"We've seen this leader before."
Upon hearing what Pigeon said, the curiosity of the others was piqued again, and even Li Xin'er, who hadn't been paying much attention at first, turned her head to look.
"In Tianxi Town, Sister Xin rescued a little girl named Li Ruonan."
His reminder jolted the warriors into remembering what he had said.
"So it was her!"
"It's great that you can stand up on your own."
Although Sister Xia had never met her before, upon hearing that she was a young girl, she felt a surge of sympathy.
"No matter how well the base is managed, there are still many cases of bullying the weak in private. I used to encounter this every day in the dormitory building where I lived. Not to mention after it was opened up, the safe zone is such a large area, you can imagine how chaotic it became."
Master Sun chimed in, "The number of jobs in the base is always limited. Even for ordinary people, or even the elderly, the weak, the sick, and the young, if you want to survive, no matter what kind of dangerous place is outside the base, you have to take the first step out."
Li Xin'er recalled that she had asked Li Ruonan if she wanted to come with her.
The young girl, full of fighting spirit, told her that once she had her own value, if the girl was still willing to take her in, she wouldn't let her down.
The little girl is now taking firm steps forward. Thinking of this, Li Xin'er felt a little gratified, and a smile curved her lips.
