With that thought in mind, Li Xin'er decided to wait a little longer. Since she was going to awaken her superpower, she would definitely choose the most powerful one.
After taking a tour of the space and a bath, he finally left to rest.
The night was quiet, and Li Xin'er had a good night's sleep. But in the underground pipes of the western city, Tong Tong and his group dared not close their eyes and go to sleep.
Xin and his gang made a huge fuss about finding someone; they practically turned the entire western part of the city upside down.
The simple-minded Tong Hui, covered in mud and dust, with his legs bent, leaned against the wall, munching on a compressed biscuit.
"In less than an hour, those people should be looking for our area."
Hong Li next to him wasn't much better off; his lips were terribly chapped, and he was taking small sips of mineral water.
His eyes were filled with anxious worry as he looked at Tan Jingrui, the bearded man with thick sideburns, sitting on the cushion directly opposite him.
"Brother, should we tell them to hide even further inside?"
Tan Jingrui is Tong Hui's mother's younger brother. He is only six years older than Tong Hui and is not yet thirty this year.
Before the apocalypse, he was an outdoor adventure climbing instructor. His already tall stature, combined with his muscles from constant exercise, made him look even more robust than the chubby Tong Hui. The deliberately grown beard on his face made him look a bit rough and older.
Tan Jingrui's eyes were dark. After a moment's thought, he stood up and said, "Let's go out."
The brick-walled underground pipe network looks extensive, but it's only found in the western part of the city. Other areas, being newer districts, have long used different pipe systems. The area where they live was practically abandoned before the apocalypse and is considered clean.
Further inside, there was still sewage in some places that hadn't been drained properly. Plus, it had just snowed, so the sewage level in the inner rooms must have risen quite a bit. Not to mention, some of them were connected to special sewage pipes, making them exceptionally dirty.
The temperature isn't very high at night; it's even a bit chilly. There are people of all ages here, and it would be quite a hassle to ask them to move to another place so late at night.
Upon hearing his words, the other four people who were with him that day understood his meaning and also stood up.
Brother Xin and his group are looking for them. As long as they're not here, the others should be safe for the time being.
Several other men standing nearby quickly tried to stop them.
"No, if you go out now, aren't you just handing them over?"
"That's right, there are their people all over the outside now. If we stay down there, they might not be able to find us."
An elderly man wearing a woolen hat pulled his cotton-padded coat tighter around himself.
“You did that for the greater good, and now we won’t abandon you.”
A skinny young man, rubbing his hands together, chimed in with a suggestion.
“Brother Rui, you don’t need to go out. If things get tough, just hide inside. Even if they come down here, they won’t be able to find anyone here, so they probably won’t look further inside.”
Tan Jingrui had already considered these possibilities, but it wasn't that easy.
"They also have superpowered individuals. Once they find their way here, they'll be discovered sooner or later."
He glanced at Hong Li and the others, a hint of self-reproach in his eyes. If there were any other way, he wouldn't want them to go out and risk their lives together, but there was no other way now.
They only have two superhumans here, and the rest are mostly elderly people and children. If a fight breaks out, they have no chance of winning at all. They absolutely cannot fight head-on.
Tan Jingrui had made his decision and addressed the remaining people once more:
"As long as we're not here, even if they find you, they won't cause you any trouble, at least for the time being."
Their conversation was quite loud, and the others who were worried nearby also gathered around.
And Liu Lei, the assistant Li Xin'er couldn't find at the warehouse, was actually among them.
Liu Lei was tall and thin, with fair skin, and looked like an intellectual, refined. He took two steps forward and said to Tan Jingrui, "I'll go with you."
If he gets recognized here, it will be troublesome.
Tan Jingrui refused outright. Their purpose in going out was to draw attention, and the consequences of being caught were unimaginable.
He shook his head. "They're not Wei Sanwa's people, they shouldn't recognize you or know anything about that. You stay here."
Liu Lei was a little anxious. He knew, of course, that these people weren't Wei Sanwa's men. He just thought that if there were more of them, they might be able to help. "They've found six people."
