The surviving elderly man continued his 'property management' work, gathering other survivors in the community to begin clearing out the zombies.
Liu Lei is one of the few original residents among these young people. He has lived here since he was a child, and the elderly people in his neighborhood have all watched him grow up. In addition, all his family members have turned into zombies, leaving only him, so he joined the 'property management'.

He even planted spies to keep an eye on everything, all in order to find Liu Lei and his gang and avenge his brother.

Those who stayed behind found the underground drainage tunnel a good place. If they initially did it to escape Wei Sanwa's pursuit, they later found it to be a great place, better than the outside world, where they didn't have to worry about zombie attacks, so they set up camp there.
The drainage system only leads to the western part of the city. They can't get out from above, and there's still no good way out below. With their supplies running out and the western part of the city completely occupied by several forces, they have no chance to get out.
