City S.
Carl and the cassow remained in the warehouse, where they spent some time sorting and counting the supplies.
"You stay here and keep watch. I'll go back and call Vulture and the others over. You guys stay here tonight. Once everything's arranged at the base, I'll come over."
Carl wiped the fine beads of sweat from his forehead with a tissue as he gave instructions to the cassow.
Even with forklifts and even though they were both superhumans, they were still exhausted and covered in sweat after cleaning up an entire warehouse of supplies.
The cassowary lay sprawled on the metal plate of a trailer, responding weakly.
"Okay, boss, do you want to rest for a bit before you go?"
Carl slightly lifted his eyelids, casually grabbed a bottle from the case of mineral water next to him, and walked out.
"Need not."
He didn't know when she would return, but he had promised that when she came back, she would see the shop running again.
This was the first thing she arranged, and he wanted to do it as well as possible, while also making the most of the time.
Furthermore, the earlier the store opens, the more crystal cores it can earn.
She seems to really need the crystal core...
Carl drove back to the villa area alone, explained the situation to everyone, and divided the Zhan Yi people into two groups: one group stayed in the villa area, and the other group was assigned to guard the goods at the warehouse.
In addition, several mutated beasts were also invited to go along. With so many supplies there, it was better to be prepared than to be targeted.
Carl, meanwhile, took Ali and headed straight to the safe zone.
Tan Jingrui also had an appointment with Carl, so he didn't plan to go out today. He brought Hong Li, Tong Hui, and Liu Lei, who had just returned from outside, and the four of them moved chairs and sat down on the street downstairs to chat and wait for each other.
Hong Li stretched, tilted his head back, and squinted his eyes, enjoying the sunlight.
"Phew~ The air outside is so much better, and it's so bright with sunlight."
Besides the four of them, there were quite a few people downstairs. Some were chatting and sunbathing in groups, while others were taking advantage of the good sunlight to mend clothes.
Tan Jingrui and the others who used to live in the underground area of the west side of the city were all assigned to a building by the base, and they became neighbors again.
Housing is scarce in the safe zone right now, and it's still a bit crowded with so many people living in one building.
In addition, there were several other houses next to the one they lived in, and even during the day, the lighting was poor, and the houses were very dark.
It's better to be on the street than to stay indoors.
Liu Lei lowered his voice, but he still couldn't suppress his excitement.
"Are you sure it's Sister Xin?"
He went out of the safe zone with the team early this morning to do a temporary mission, so he didn't go into the base this morning and missed Li Xin'er.
When he returned and heard what Hong Li and the others had to say, how could he not be excited, having been Li Xin'er's assistant for so many years!
I kept saying I missed out!
Hong Li rolled her eyes at him. "You've asked a hundred times already. I'm a fan of hers, after all. How could I possibly mistake her?"
"Besides, didn't Brother Rui agree to work for her? You'll find out when she gets back."
As he spoke, he sat up straight again, eager to gossip, and leaned closer to Liu Lei.
"I didn't realize you were her assistant. What's she like? Does she act like a diva?"
"Also, there was a rumor on Toutiao that she was having an affair with that rising young heartthrob, is that true?"
Tong Hui, standing nearby, also strained his ears, listening curiously.
Liu Lei scoffed, "That guy is so ugly, does he even deserve Sister Xin? It's just that their company is trying to get attention by associating with Sister Xin."
"Sister Xin is a person of integrity and lives a simple life. She has never been involved in any of those messy things. It's all just nonsense fabricated by those unscrupulous merchants."
Hong Li was quite surprised, "Ugly? I think he's quite handsome. The young general he played, wow, he gained countless fans."
Liu Lei looked disgusted, thinking that Hong Li had bad eyesight.
"I don't know how many times she's had plastic surgery. You haven't seen her in person. Her chin is full of dents, and her nose is so sharp it could kill someone... Anyway, she's unrecognizable. The ones that are posted are all photoshopped, of course they look good."
Hong Li couldn't accept men getting plastic surgery; the thought alone made her shudder.
"What a ruthless guy, his face is covered in knives."
As he spoke, his eyes lit up again.
"Has Li Xin'er had any plastic surgery? She looks much prettier today than on TV!"
Liu Lei retorted vehemently, feeling that saying Sister Xin had undergone plastic surgery was an insult to her.
"Of course not! Our Sister Xin is naturally beautiful, why would she need plastic surgery?"
He is three years older than Li Xin'er, and used to call her Sister Xin, which was a common practice in the industry.
Now I call her Sister Xin, and that's from the bottom of my heart!
If it weren't for Sister Xin giving him the warehouse key, and those supplies that allowed them to survive for a while, he might be dead by now.
"Is the Xia Tian CP real?"
Hong Li kept asking Liu Lei all sorts of questions about the celebrities he knew in the entertainment industry, as if he were digging for a treasure.
Anyway, it's fine. The old rules of secrecy in the entertainment industry are no longer a big deal in the apocalypse, so Liu Lei was happy to tell them.
"That's fake too. Those two are from the same company, and Xia Lin'er has been secretly married for a long time. Her child is almost in elementary school now. I've even met her..."
Tong Hui was also nearby, listening intently. If it weren't for the current shortage of supplies, he would definitely buy a bag of melon seeds, put on a bottle of Happy Talk, and eat while listening!
It seemed that only Tan Jingrui was sitting on the side, but he looked like an outsider with a detached expression.
He wasn't interested in those messages; his mind was now preoccupied with planning his future arrangements.
