Chapter 7 The Amazing Art of Makeup

The old man on the subway looked at his phone with an expression that made him hold it far away.

"Sister Xia, my ears are going to break!"

Xia Jie's voice has returned to normal.

"Let's find a secluded place; I have something to tell you."

Despite her best efforts to suppress it, Li Xin'er could still hear her patting her chest repeatedly, indicating that she was quite angry again.

Li Xin'er glanced around; the staff were all far away, and Mengmeng had gone to the car to get something.

"There's no one next to me, so you can speak."

"You went to a bar last night?"

"ah?"

Li Xin'er pretended to be stupid.

"Stop pretending, my goodness! The police have come to me and said you spent over ten thousand at Kiss Bar last night! You're really something! Is that a place you can go?"

And let's not forget, the incident at that Kiss Bar last night has been trending on social media all day! It involves a criminal case!

Are you complaining about having too many fans, or making too much money?! Huh? How dare you say that?!

With a series of rapid-fire bursts, Sister Xia unleashed her power.

Just as Li Xin'er was about to say it was nothing, Sister Xia, as if she had returned to normal after venting, suddenly became serious.

"Tell me clearly what happened last night, so I can prepare and handle the public relations situation accordingly."

"Don't worry, Sister Xia, this has nothing to do with me."

The original owner still had some credibility with Sister Xia, and Sister Xia breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing this.

"What happened?"

Li Xin'er countered with a question:

What did the police say?

Normally, the only thing that should be verifiable is that the card belongs to her, right? Has her disguise skills gotten that bad now?

Sister Xia: "Not everyone has the authority to know the specifics. They only told me that there was a record of your spending at the bar last night, just a routine inquiry."

So, does that mean she had a preconceived notion?

Thinking about it this way, Sister Xia's irritable temper calmed down, and her tone became much better.

"Since it has nothing to do with you, I'll send you the phone number. Call Officer Chen back and cooperate with the routine questioning."

"Okay, no problem."

After finishing her sentence, Li Xin'er hung up the phone abruptly, not giving Sister Xia a chance to ask further questions.

'Ding~'

The message notification sounded, and Sister Xia sent a phone number along with a long string of instructions and reminders.

Li Xin'er immediately dialed the phone.

"Officer Chen, this is Li Xin'er."

After a brief conversation, Li Xin'er asked for the address of the detachment and they agreed to go there later.

"Sister Xin, are you sure you don't want us to come with you?"

In the van, Mengmeng couldn't help but ask again.

"No need. If you're together, you'll be more likely to be photographed. Our car is already registered with the paparazzi."

As Li Xin'er spoke, she patted the back of Liu Lei's seat in the driver's seat.

"Put me down on the side of the road."

While unbuckling his seatbelt, he instructed Mengmeng:

"I'll do my own makeup tonight. You guys just go to the party and wait for me."

The evening's schedule is a cocktail party, which many people in the industry and investors will be attending. Sister Xia values it quite a bit. Other things don't matter, but Li Xin'er knows there will be a good show tonight, and she won't miss it.

Mengmeng nodded in agreement.

"Okay, then call me if anything happens, Sister Xin. Be careful."

After getting off the bus, Li Xin'er found a place to put on disguise makeup, so much so that even Sister Xia wouldn't recognize her.

He swaggered down the street and then hailed a taxi to the Criminal Investigation Division.

"You're saying you're Li Xin'er?!"

The disguise Li Xin'er wore today was different from the one she wore at the bar last night. At this moment, Officer Chen, who was in his twenties, stared at her with a face full of suspicion at the door.

Unless someone is blind, no one can tell that this is Li Xin'er, right?

These have absolutely nothing to do with each other!

Li Xin'er nodded without any sign of panic.

"It's me. Shall we go inside and discuss the details?"

"Okay, come with me."

Officer Chen reacted quickly, leading the way to the room where she was to give her statement.

After Li Xin'er sat down, she got straight to the point:

"It was indeed me at the bar last night, but I was wearing makeup, and I am still wearing makeup now."

At the table, Officer Chen and his colleague glanced at Li Xin'er's ID photo on the computer, then looked up at Li Xin'er again, repeating this three or four times, their faces full of disbelief. "Even makeup can't be this exaggerated, right?"

Although she couldn't believe it, she still said it outwardly.

"Um... I'm afraid I'll have to trouble you to remove your makeup here."

It was just to verify her identity; Li Xin'er wasn't a criminal, so the request was naturally made in a polite tone.

Li Xin'er came here fully made up so that she could verify this in person.

"Okay, that's my plan."

She gently wiped her cheeks with a makeup remover wipe, revealing her true appearance.

"Hiss~"

Officer Chen gasped.

"You're not just wearing makeup, it's like you've had a completely different face!"

The other officer was also dumbfounded, clicking his tongue in amazement.

"This skill is amazing."

Li Xin'er smiled modestly.

"Driven by the necessities of life."

"I understand."

Celebrities, especially popular ones, can cause traffic jams if they're recognized when they go out, let alone spending tens of thousands of dollars in places like bars.

Officer Chen thought to himself, "Wow, celebrities are really rich. One drink cost almost a year's salary."

Once Li Xin'er's true face was revealed, it matched the photo, confirming her identity. The subsequent routine questioning followed the procedure and couldn't be simpler.

Li Xin'er had nothing to hide, and was happy to cooperate since she was in a good mood.

The statements also corroborated those of other people in the bar. This matter had little to do with Li Xin'er; after all, no one would have imagined that a single glance could have such power.
