Lu Peiting lowered his head, his hands clenched tightly at his sides, but his whole body exuded a stubbornness.
There was a knock at the door, so Lu Chen had to pause his conversation with Lu Peiting and look up.
"What's up?"
Before the visitor entered, he stood at the door and reported loudly:
"Commander Lu, the person you asked us to keep an eye on has registered to enter the base this morning."
Lu Chen instantly jumped up excitedly, dragging the chair and making a noise.
Where is he?
"Still in quarantine, won't be able to come out until tomorrow."
Lu Chen couldn't wait any longer and started walking out.
"I'll go take a look."
He received news from the people he sent to Haishi that they were stuck on the road. They had sent back a distress message, and he had already arranged for people to rescue them.
Li Yiyuan never returned to the Haishi base. He clung to a sliver of hope that Li Yiyuan had simply taken people to other bases.
They then instructed each base to keep an eye out for news about Li Yiyuan.
Surprisingly, he actually received a message, and it was from the base in S City where he was located!
Lu Peiting hadn't been following Lu Chen closely, and he knew a little about who Lu Chen was looking for in Hai City, but he didn't know exactly who he was looking for.
It's rare to see my uncle so flustered and nervous.
Looking for someone? A possibility occurred to Lu Peiting, and his breath hitched; he quickly followed.
Is this the person my uncle has been searching for?
·
Outside the quarantine area, one-way glass makes it easier for people outside to observe what's happening inside.
This also made things convenient for Lu Chen, allowing him to see what Li Yiyuan looked like beforehand.
He stood by the window, his tension visibly palpable.
The moment Lu Chen saw Li Yiyuan, a voice inside him told him it was him.
Even without a paternity test, he could inexplicably be certain that the person he had been searching for for twenty-seven years was right in front of him.
The person in charge of managing the quarantine area respectfully reported Li Yiyuan's registration information.
"There were 13 of them, 7 of whom were children, but the six adults were all people with superpowers."
"The leader is this man named Li Yiyuan, 27 years old, a level 3 fire-type ability user. His family address used to be listed as the Shanghai Orphanage."
Before Lu Chen could reply, Lu Peiting, who was standing next to him, was quite surprised.
"The Haishi Orphanage?!"
Lu Chen turned his head, puzzled. "What? You know them?"
Lu Peiting hesitated for a moment, "If his name and address are correct, then we should be considered acquaintances."
"What does it mean to be considered an acquaintance?"
After Lu Chen finished speaking casually, he remembered that the information about Li Yiyuan was given by Miss Xin. If he remembered correctly, Li Xin'er was from that orphanage.
My nephew and Li Xin'er...
He quickly realized what was happening, narrowed his eyes slightly, and waved to the manager beside him.
"Go ahead and do your thing."
"Alright, Commander Lu, please feel free to call me if you need anything." The man left with a perceptive look.
Only the two men, uncle and nephew, remained at the window, so Lu Peiting didn't hide anything and spoke up.
"Uncle, do you remember when I ran away from home once when I was a child? In the end, the orphanage called home and found me."
Upon his reminder, Lu Chen remembered that Pei Ting had argued with his father and, without a word, had run away from home with the Lan family's son.
With the elder brother's help, the two boys' movements were thoroughly investigated in less than half a day.
Knowing where Pei Ting was, and with his second brother saying he'd teach Pei Ting a lesson, they weren't in a hurry to pick him up.
He was very busy at work during that period and didn't pay much attention to it.
"So... the orphanage where you and Lan Mingxuan freeloaded is the Hai City Orphanage?"
Lu Peiting's lips twitched. Although it was a bit harsh, it seemed to be true. He nodded somewhat embarrassedly, "Mm."
I still vividly remember the beating I received when I got home.
Upon hearing this, Lu Chen's heart clenched, and he felt a tightness in his chest.
He suddenly regretted it. If he had put more effort into finding his nephew back then, would he have discovered Li Yiyuan's existence sooner?
Wouldn't they have missed out on all these years?
Lu Chen couldn't help but press further: "You already knew Li Yiyuan back then?"
Lu Peiting felt even more embarrassed.
"I was forced to call home because I was fighting with him."
It's kind of embarrassing to admit, but even though he was trained by his grandfather from a young age and received proper training, he still couldn't win a fight.
Li Yiyuan was just jealous of his relationship with Xinxin.
Lu Chen sighed and didn't ask any more questions; it was his mistake.
He summoned another assistant, gave him some instructions, and then returned to his office area.
The necessary assessments still need to be done.
That night, Lu Peiting couldn't sleep. He tossed and turned in bed, unable to stop thinking about his childhood.
He ran away from home after arguing with his family, originally just to put on a show and scare his dad.
He went to find Lan Mingxuan, hoping to hide at his house, but Lan Mingxuan was even more agitated than he was.
The two secretly discussed it and became more and more excited as they talked, thus embarking on their 'daring adventures in the martial arts world'.
I initially planned to stay in Beijing, but who knew Lan Mingxuan's father would be so ruthless.
They had bodyguards follow and "chase" them. Whenever they rested, the bodyguards would chase them, and when they started running, they would stay in one place. They were never allowed to have a moment's peace.
The two decided to go all in and bought tickets to the neighboring city of Haishi, thinking that being far from the reach of the central government...
The result was... even worse.
The money he brought was stolen on the bus, and with no money for food, he and Lan Mingxuan went to beg on the overpass.
Lan Mingxuan was sweet-talking and shameless, which made the uncles, aunts, grandfathers and grandmothers very happy. Many kind-hearted people were willing to buy the two of them some food and give them some money.
