Shen Zhijie has been very quiet lately, and sometimes it feels like he doesn't exist.
Jiang Yao felt something was off, so she found Xiao Mu and told him about Shen Zhijie.
After hearing this, Xiao Mu smiled and said, "Don't worry! He'll be fine. He should be recovering soon."
"Just decoct the medicine for him again tomorrow."
Jiang Yao asked, somewhat puzzled, "How do you know he's getting better?"
Xiao Mu turned to Jiang Yao and said in a serious tone, "I've known him for 10 years. Do you think I wouldn't know his habits and secrets?"
"His illness, in truth, stems from my own condition..."
Jiang Yao looked at Xiao Mu and said, "I'm sorry, I reminded you of something unpleasant."
The thunder and lightning stopped in the evening, but the heavy rain continued, though much lighter than the night before. People started going out in the neighborhood, many in groups to buy supplies or go back to their old homes to retrieve them.
Jiang Yao also planned to go back and get some of the supplies that Xiao Mu and the others had brought.
On the way, Jiang Yao met her aunt Cai Lin, who was carrying a meager amount of supplies and muttering, "My second uncle's family brought food, but they didn't share any with them. It's a shame she kindly invited them to the safe haven in Shichang Village."
When Cai Lin saw Jiang Yao, she immediately called out to her, "Jiang Yao, are you living alone now?"
Jiang Yao frowned at Cai Lin and said, "I'm staying at Shen Zhijie's house right now." Without waiting for Cai Lin to reply, she continued walking downstairs.
Cai Lin quickly caught up and said, "Oh dear! Isn't this your second uncle's family here? My place is a bit small and we can't accommodate them all. I figured you know a lot of people, so could you help us see if there are any vacant rooms?" After saying that, she stole a glance to see Jiang Yao's expression.
Jiang Yao shook her head and said, "They're all full now, so there aren't any empty rooms. If all else fails, let's go check out the dormitory-style rooms!"
Cai Lin watched Jiang Yao walk away, then curled her lip and said coldly, "Pah, you ungrateful wretch! If it weren't for my brother-in-law's kindness in helping you manage the company, do you think you'd still have such a good life today? Humph..." After saying that, she turned and went home.
As Jiang Yao finished collecting the supplies and was about to head back, Xiao Mu and Shen Zhijie entered, and the three of them locked eyes.
Shen Zhijie joked with a smile, "Hey, why didn't you call me Brother Xiao?"
"It's not good for a girl like you to carry something so heavy!" He then struck a pose that he thought was cool.
Jiang Yao looked at Xiao Mu and said, "Since you're here, take more! So you don't have to run back and forth." She completely ignored Shen Zhijie.
Shen Zhijie...can't you see me?
On their way back with the supplies, the group encountered Cai Lin again. It seemed that Cai Lin was waiting for Jiang Yao to return.
When Cai Lin saw the supplies in Jiang Yao's hands, she happily stepped forward and said, "Oh my! Yao Yao, look at you, carrying so much stuff! You should have told me earlier!"
"Let me help you carry them, come on, let me help you carry them." He reached out to take the supplies from Jiang Yao.
Jiang Yao knew what she was up to from her enthusiastic manner, so she gave Shen Zhijie a look. Shen Zhijie understood and took the supplies from Jiang Yao, saying, "Auntie must have something to tell you. Let me take the things!"
"You guys speak first."
Chae Rim awkwardly withdrew her hands and said, "You child, how could you take things like that?" Then she reached out to take them again.
Shen Zhijie turned around and dodged, saying, "Auntie, these things aren't heavy, it's okay. Besides, how can we let you girls carry them!"
"Is it Xiao Mu?" she said, looking at Xiao Mu for help.
I thought to myself, "Don't just stand by and watch, help me get away so we can leave quickly!"
Xiao Mu walked over with a cold face, took the things from Shen Zhijie's hands, and said, "Hurry up, you're dawdling."
Jiang Yao?
Shen Zhijie? ??? Is this referring to me?
Chae Rim??? Seriously, this young man has such a temper! Doesn't he know how to respect the elderly and care for the young?
Cai Lin watched the supplies she was about to get slip away and said somewhat unwillingly, "Yao Yao, I think you should stay away from these two men. Look at Xiao Mu's fierce eyes!"
"By the way, your second uncle and the others probably haven't seen you in a long time, right? Come over for dinner tonight."
Jiang Yao thought for a moment and said, "That's true, it's been a long time since you've seen me. Then I'll come to your house for dinner tonight, Auntie! I'll go back and change my clothes first and then come over." After saying that, she turned around and left, leaving Cai Lin alone.
Cai Lin watched Jiang Yao leave and gritted her teeth, saying, "Fine, I don't believe you'd have the nerve to come empty-handed for a meal, hmph..."
The moment Chae Rim got home, she shouted, "Guess who I ran into in the stairwell just now?"
Jiang Sheng sat on the sofa, staring at his phone without looking up, and said impatiently, "Cai Lin, you're always making such a fuss, can't you just be quiet for a bit?" Then he continued staring at his phone.
Seeing that Jiang Sheng was getting impatient, Cai Lin pouted and sat down next to her sister Cai Ya, saying, "Sigh, you won't believe me even if I tell you."
"I just saw Jiang Yao in the stairwell. She and her lover were carrying a lot of supplies and they were chatting and laughing as they went upstairs."
Upon hearing Jiang Yao's name, Jiang Sheng looked up at Cai Lin and asked, "Are you sure it's Jiang Yao?"
Chae Rim nodded affirmatively, "How could I be wrong? You know that, right?"
“When our family arrived in Shichang Village during the coldest period, Jiang Yao already had a house here, you see, it’s that bungalow on the hillside.”
“We even begged her at the door to let us move in, but this girl wouldn’t even let us in.”
As Jiang Sheng listened to Cai Lin's description, he thought of how, three months before the start of the extreme cold, Jiang Yao suddenly wanted to sell 45% of Jiang's shares.
