Chapter 147 The Problem of Seeds

Nan Xiangwan walked into the shed and saw that the chickens were growing quite well, so it seemed that indoor farming was indeed a viable option.

Then he said to the administrator, "Don't slaughter this batch of chickens yet. Let's see if they can breed another batch of chicks. Otherwise, I won't be able to get any more breeding chickens after we've eaten them all. So your task ahead is still very challenging. Are you confident you can do a good job?"

Upon hearing that the chickens were to be hatched, the manager immediately said excitedly, "I can do that. My family used to do this. As long as these chickens don't have any genetic mutations, I can guarantee that they will hatch."

"Okay, once you finish the task, I'll give you a raise. Keep up the good work."

"Thank you, ma'am."

Then Nan Xiangwan continued, "Just keep a few roosters, and send the rest to the canteen. Tell the canteen staff that if there's not enough meat, they'll make soup. As long as everyone can have some, that's fine."

"Yes, I've got it."

After the two observed that there were no problems, they turned around and went back to the greenhouse.

The supervisor there said a few days ago that the first batch of grain had matured and would soon be harvested, but the yield would not be very high.

However, for Nan Xiangwan, any gains are good enough; it's better than sitting around and doing nothing.

As soon as the two arrived at the base, they saw the manager of greenhouse number 8 come out, looking somewhat anxious.

Then Nan Xiangwan called out, "Wang Xu, where are you going?"

When Wang Xu heard someone calling him, he turned around and saw the person he was looking for. He immediately went over and said anxiously, "Sir, Madam, when we were harvesting the grain today, we found that many of the corn cobs were hollow. Apart from the ears, there was no grain inside. We thought that as long as the ears had grown, there was no problem. But we only found out during the harvest, so I..." He then lowered his head in shame.

He hadn't expected this to happen. He was really afraid that the base commander would get angry and remove him from his post, and then he would go hungry.

If he were on his own, everything would be fine, but his family still depends on his points for a living.

So he's so anxious he's almost crying.

Nan Xiangwan wasn't angry after hearing his words. After all, the first batch of grain seeds were all seeds that had been found outside. Since some of them didn't bear fruit, they could just pay attention next time.

Then he said, "Take us to take a look first. Maybe it's a problem with the seeds. Don't blame yourself. After all, the corn kernels were wrapped so tightly. Nobody expected there would be nothing inside. It can only be said that it was all fate."

Wang Xu breathed a sigh of relief when he saw that his wife did not blame him for his negligence.

"Come on, take us to see it. I'll send you another batch of seeds later. Don't use the extra ones from before, send them all to the cafeteria!"

"Yes, I understand."

The three then went to the cornfield.

When she saw rows of felled corn, Nan Xiangwan reached out and picked up an ear of corn. Actually, she had never grown grain before; this was her first time.

The only time I ever had any contact with the countryside was during a school-organized rural experience trip.

When she peeled back the corn cob, there was indeed no kernel inside; there was only a thin layer of skin on top.

If this had been harvested by farmers in the past, they would probably be devastated.

However, this time she can only blame herself; she should have used the seed from the space.

However, now that it is known that many of the original seeds were unusable, the subsequent plantings served as a warning to her.

Fortunately, she only planted corn in one greenhouse, and after discarding half of the waste, she still had some harvest overall.

He then said, "After you all harvest the corn here, send it to the warehouse. I will select the seeds for the future and send them over. Consider this a learning experience, so don't take it too seriously. That's all!"

After hearing this, everyone working in the greenhouse breathed a sigh of relief.

Just then, an employee came over with a piece of honeycomb and said, "Madam, would you like this sent to the storeroom or the kitchen?"

Looking south in the evening, wow, there was a whole huge chunk of honey.

Then, curiously, he asked, "Why are there so many?"

"Madam, we have the least amount of honey in our greenhouse. The vegetable greenhouses have more, since their vegetables need pollination when they flower. We've only had this much here after half a year."

"That's right, you can all divide this piece among yourselves. You can use it to make a drink now and then. You don't need to give it to me. You can all do this from now on. Consider it a perk for you."

Everyone was overjoyed to hear this, since honey is a valuable commodity these days, and they never expected that farming would come with such good benefits.

I'm determined to farm properly from now on and never make this mistake again.

Afterwards, Nan Xiangwan gave some more instructions, and then he and Zhan Siyu went to check on several other greenhouses.

After a day of visits, everything was fine except for the corn greenhouses, which had the biggest problem.

After returning home, Nan Xiangwan took Zhan Siyu to the space and then decisively went to the grain warehouse.

After searching for a long time, I finally managed to find the seeds that she thought were decent.

When Zhan Si saw this, he immediately reached out to help. It was better for a man like him to handle such a rough task.

After they had gathered all the seeds, the two went back to their room to rest.

And so, a busy but fulfilling day came to an end.

Meanwhile, Zhou Muyang, deep in the mountains, had completely transformed into a wild man.

He thrived in places that others avoided at all costs.

Normal people would have been corpses long ago in this cold weather.

But ever since he became a half-zombie, his body has been as if it had no feeling at all, and he is unaware of hot or cold.

During these days, he hides in the cave during the day and never goes out.

He only goes out to hunt mutated beasts in the mountains when he loses his memory at night.

Every morning when he woke up, he was covered in blood, and he couldn't remember anything he had done the night before.

Fortunately, he has no sense of taste now; otherwise, he would probably have been suffocated by the stench of blood long ago.

Only after he adapted to his new body did he begin to go out of the mountains to look for things every day at sunrise.

Then he would return to the forest before sunset, and every time he was lucid, he would ponder why he had become this way.

Then, without realizing it, I would think of Wang Mo's face.

It seems that his chronic illness only developed after she arrived.

The more he thought about it, the more he felt that the woman was the one who had ruined her. If he knew where she was, he would definitely ask her for the truth.

Why treat him like this? Wasn't he good to her?

Unfortunately, he passed away before she could find her enemy.

After all, Nan Xiangwan had always been thinking about him, her enemy, especially the crystal core in his brain, which was like a little money, waiting for her to come and take it.
