Chapter 19 Mysterious Old Friend

The dim streetlights flickered, casting shimmering shadows on Jiang Qingwan.

It was as if something on the ground was twisting and devouring Jiang Qingwan's shadow.

The crackling sound of tree branches snapping occasionally broke the silence.

Jiang Qingwan crossed her arms and waited patiently.

The bricks that were firmly embedded in the wall were suddenly removed.

A pair of dark eyes were revealed.

"Hu Hu, you've finally shown up. I thought you were just fooling me before," Jiang Qingwan exclaimed.

"Sis, we need to be careful~" Hu Hu flipped over the wall and landed with his hands on the ground in a cool manner.

"You're impressive, kid. Your organization really does have that mysterious underground vibe from novels," Jiang Qingwan praised upon seeing this.

"Shh—don't talk. Come with me." Hu Hu put his finger to his lips, stopping Jiang Qingwan from continuing her idle chatter.

Hu Hu led Jiang Qingwan through a maze of turns until they arrived at an old courtyard.

Some faded red lanterns hung outside the door, and bright red couplets were pasted on both sides. The wintersweet tree was well cared for, and its branches stretched out to the outside of the gate.

A cozy little courtyard.

Hu Hu took out the key, opened the iron gate, and it made a slight creaking sound.

"Come in," Hu Hu beckoned to Jiang Qingwan.

Hu Hu led Jiang Qingwan through the courtyard into the guest room, moved aside the pure white wardrobe, and revealed a hidden door.

Jiang Qingwan really didn't expect this.

After Jiang Qingwan entered the hidden door, Hu Hu pressed the mechanism inside, and the outside returned to normal.

No one could have imagined that it was full of hidden secrets.

Jiang Qingwan took out her phone and her fingers flew across the nine-key keyboard, tapping and tapping until a line of text appeared on the electronic memo.

Hu Hu, may I speak now?

Hu Hu looked at the phone being held up to his face, nodded, and said, "Okay."

Jiang Qingwan patted her chest and breathed a sigh of relief. "Hu Hu, this must be some kind of mysterious organization. Such an outrageous way to get in."

"Haha. I told you long ago that I have something on me, but you never believed me," Hu Hu said with a helpless laugh.

Many years ago—

"Blackie, didn't I tell you to bring us money to spend?" A thug with faded yellow hair and a grotesque scar etched diagonally across his right cheek, his voice laced with ruthlessness, stepped on the skinny young Hu Hu.

Hu Hu was already in a semi-conscious state, muttering, "My dad... hasn't... come back yet. He... went... out of the city."

Jiang Qingwan, who was still a junior high school student at the time, was already bursting with a sense of justice and immediately called the police.

It's quite a coincidence.

At this moment, Jiang Qingwan was sitting on the fork of a big tree. She had just learned an article today about moon appreciating.

The teacher said the moon represents reunion.

Everyone is looking at the same bright moon, the same moonlight that travels thousands of meters to shine on every traveler longing for their family.

Jiang Qingwan thought to herself: Then I'll climb the tree and get closer to this romantic moonlight.

After school, Jiang Qingwan first put her schoolbag on a bench at the orphanage, then secretly ran out and chose a relatively sturdy tree near the orphanage.

He simply hugged the tree trunk and climbed up with his legs bent, and soon sat down at the fork of the tree.

Each branch was covered with dense leaves, concealing Jiang Qingwan's slender figure.

Jiang Qingwan leaned against a tree branch, feeling the refreshing night breeze, gazing at the moon, trying to empathize with its presence.

Just as Jiang Qingwan was about to climb down and roll back to the orphanage to do her homework, she heard the sound of punches and kicks.

With his high vantage point and exceptional eyesight, he saw someone bullying a classmate.

Jiang Qingwan quickly and nimbly climbed down the tree and ran all the way to the nearby police station.

"What's wrong, little one?" the police officer on duty asked kindly.

"Someone is bullying my classmate!! Come with me quickly!" Jiang Qingwan said anxiously, sweating profusely as she ran.

Seeing that Jiang Qingwan did not seem to be faking it, the on-duty police officer immediately put on his baton and fluorescent vest and went to the scene.

The police officer on duty picked up a helmet from the table and put it on his head, while also taking another helmet from his colleague's table for Jiang Qingwan to wear.

The policeman placed Jiang Qingwan in the seat in front of him and told her, "I'll drive slowly, you give me directions."

The sensible Jiang Qingwan nodded and gave directions aloud; she had a great sense of direction and a good memory.

They rushed to the scene of the bullying immediately.

Upon arrival, they saw Hu Hu beaten to the point of near death.

The only blond-haired hoodlum stepped on Hu Hu's chest and spouted nonsense, while a bunch of cocky students around him took pictures with their phones.

"What are you doing!" the police officer shouted sternly.

Upon seeing the police uniforms and vests, the onlookers immediately scattered in all directions, making it impossible to apprehend them.

The thugs who made the move didn't have time to run away and were quickly pinned to the ground by the police.

The police officer gestured for Jiang Qingwan to take his phone out of her pocket and said, "Please call 120 for an ambulance, on speakerphone."

Jiang Qingwan did as instructed, and even moved her phone closer to the police.

"Hello, this is 120." The customer service representative answered the phone.

"At the intersection of Sangyu Street and Rose Street, an ambulance is needed; someone is unconscious." Unable to describe the exact location, the police chose the nearest and easiest-to-find intersection.

"Okay, we'll dispatch it immediately," the hospital's customer service replied.

Jiang Qingwan hung up the phone and put it back into the policeman's pocket.

The policeman grabbed the blond-haired thug and stood up, leaning down to say to Jiang Qingwan, "You stay here and watch over things. I'll go to the nearest intersection and wait for the ambulance. Don't move."

Jiang Qingwan nodded obediently, "Okay, police officer."

Jiang Qingwan watched as the thug, who was struggling but unable to break free, was led towards the fork in the road.
