Jiang Qingwan took out a paper map, identified the direction, and headed east.
There were very few zombies along the way, just a handful here and there, and Jiang Qingwan was too lazy to bother with them.
I wonder if the zombies are all around the Qingshan base.
I hope the superhumans at the Qingshan base will give me some opportunities to kill zombies and collect crystal cores.
As expected.
The closer you get to the Qingshan base, the more zombies there are.
The zombies marched in groups toward a fixed direction, completely ignoring Jiang Qingwan who was passing by.
There was no longing for food in its greyish-white eyes, only a determined resolve to move forward.
Jiang Qingwan rolled down the car window and shouted, "Hey, are any zombies looking at me?"
The scent of living beings wafted through the wide-open windows, and their sounds assaulted the zombies' eardrums.
The zombie only paused briefly before continuing to move forward in its original direction.
"Tsk, it seems there really is an order from the zombie leader. They can even control their physical desires." Jiang Qingwan shook her head.
Jiang Qingwan parked the car and climbed up through the sunroof.
Looking down from his vantage point, he surveyed the zombies that had gathered in one direction from all directions.
"A shower of meteor needles."
Hundreds of sharp, long needles, gleaming with a cold light and tipped with small flames, spread out in all directions from Jiang Qingwan as the center.
The needle pierced the zombie's hard skull, and the flame ignited the zombie's torso.
The zombies had no time to react or struggle.
It was as if nothing had happened.
All that remained on the ground were the brightly colored crystal nuclei.
Jiang Qingwan used magic to pick up the crystal core out of thin air and put it into her spatial storage.
"Going out alone is a bit inconvenient, it's like not having a driver," Jiang Qingwan muttered to herself, smoothing her wind-blown hair.
"Um... do you think I'm okay?" Ye Qi's voice came from the corner.
Behind the abandoned flower bed, Ye Qi straightened up, revealing his clean and tidy face.
"What are you doing?" Jiang Qingwan sat on the roof of the car, looking her up and down suspiciously.
"I'm researching mutant plants," Ye Qi said, pointing to the flower bed.
"The base couldn't possibly have sent you alone. How could a rare researcher like you be the only one left?" Jiang Qingwan pouted.
Ye Qi shook his head. "There were indeed several, and some were protecting me."
Jiang Qingwan had an "I knew it" look on her face and asked, "Where are they now?"
Ye Qi recounted the scene with a sense of helplessness: "Halfway through the walk, a female colleague said she needed to use the restroom and asked me to get out of the car and wait for her for a moment."
Jiang Qingwan was bewildered and shocked, asking, "And then they left together??"
Ye Qi jumped onto the flower bed, raising his gaze to meet Jiang Qingwan's eyes: "Yes. It was very sudden."
Jiang Qingwan looked at Ye Qi. Unlike his disheveled appearance in the forest, after tidying himself up, his features were sharp and his lines were hard, making him an absolutely stunningly handsome man.
Such a handsome guy, just left like that.
Who are these people?
Jiang Qingwan was speechless. "Brother, did you deliberately let them leave you behind? Did you offend someone?"
Ye Qi nodded in agreement, "Yes, I think so too. They deliberately abandoned me. So, how about I become their driver?"
Jiang Qingwan shook her head: "I feel like you're not very bright, you just got left behind like that. I'm afraid you're a terrible teammate."
Ye Qi curled his lips, no longer displaying the innocent and naive demeanor he had just displayed. He shrugged and laughed, "I thought you liked this kind of innocent, adorable puppy, the kind without any guile. I didn't manage to seduce you."
Jiang Qingwan jumped out of the car and approached Ye Qi step by step, her tone dissatisfied: "Tempt me? Do you think I'm such a shallow person who judges people by their looks? You're underestimating me."
Ye Qi chuckled softly, "So, you're quite satisfied with my face?"
Jiang Qingwan acknowledged Ye Qi's good looks, but disagreed with his intelligence, saying, "You may have a nice face, but you really have no brains. You've been left here dumbfounded."
Ye Qi reached out and plucked a mutated flower from the flower bed. Despite the cold wind, it was a vibrant red.
A cool, clear voice filled in the rest of the story: "I had already figured out their purpose. I deliberately got out of the car, then used my spatial folding ability to flatten everyone in the car."
"They are the faction that advocates chaos and do not want me to develop a drug to restore zombies to normal. They can't say it openly, so they try to kill me behind my back."
Ye Qi wanted to say something more, but Jiang Qingwan made a stop gesture, "Stop, stop, stop, don't say too much, I don't want to get involved."
Ye Qi shrugged: "Too late, you already know quite a few secrets."
Jiang Qingwan narrowed her eyes, teleported in front of Ye Qi, and burned the flower Ye Qi had picked up with the flame in her hand.
His voice was cold and sharp: "You deliberately dragged me into this mess? You know I could just kill you."
Ye Qi lowered his eyes, his expression as calm as still water, and quietly asked, "Can you?"
