Chapter 19 The Contaminated Rules

Hearing her words, Yan Qing not only didn't stop, but ran even faster.

What a joke! If she doesn't run now, is she going to wait for Wen Jiajia to come and catch her?

Moreover, and more importantly, Article 4 of the "Yongning Lane Rules" states:

Keep moving forward, and never look back no matter what happens, or you will never see the sun rise again.

Therefore, she cannot be sure right now whether the person calling them behind their back is really Wen Jiajia.

Therefore, to be on the safe side, not looking back is the most secure approach.

Moreover, she always felt like she was missing something.

They ran a short distance ahead and saw another shop that was open.

Yue Qi stopped, took her hand, and said, "Take a look at this."

Yan Qing turned her head and saw a huge flag with four large, gold-embossed characters on it: Worry-Free Inn.

It seemed this was a place that could provide accommodation. Yan Qing reviewed the "Yongning Lane Rules" and realized that their most urgent task was to find a place to stay immediately.

At this moment, she finally realized that something was wrong.

She nudged Yue Qi beside her and pointed to the sky, saying, "Look, isn't the sun in the sky a little strange?"

Yan Qing pointed to her watch, her expression turning serious. "It's clearly 10 a.m., but the sun looks like it's about to set?"

Moreover, the first article of the "Yongning Lane Rules" explicitly stated:

You can only go out in Yongning Lane during the day; please keep your doors and windows closed at night. If you see the sun suddenly disappear, don't be surprised; it simply means night has fallen. When the blood moon shines upon the earth, you are free to come out and play.

The scene before her eyes proved this to be true. According to her estimation, if things continued like this, the sun would set soon.

What awaited them was the unknown darkness of night. Therefore, they needed to find a place to stay immediately.

Upon hearing her words, Yue Qi immediately decided, "Let's go in and take a look."

From the outside, the Worry-Free Inn looks like just a small storefront, but once you go inside, you'll find it's a completely different world, much larger than the outside, and it even has three floors.

The innkeeper at the front desk was pale and looked like an opium addict.

He raised his swollen eyes, glanced weakly at the two of them, and said impatiently:

"Need accommodation? It's 10 spirit coins a night. If you don't have the money, get lost."

Yan Qing mentally complained. With this kind of service attitude, if it weren't for the fact that she was in the Rules of the Strange Tales instance, she would definitely complain until the other party went bankrupt.

But he still had a smile on his face. "Boss, it's just the two of us. We'll stay for three days."

Then, she generously tossed a hundred-yuan spirit coin onto the front desk.

"Consider the extra amount as your service fee."

With spirit coins clearing the way, the innkeeper's face instantly changed to a smile. He became extremely hospitable, just as he had been when he first saw the two of them.

"You two are clearly exceptional individuals, a match made in heaven! Don't worry, my inn is very clean, I guarantee you'll have a comfortable stay."

Yan Qing suppressed the urge to roll her eyes and took the opportunity to ask the innkeeper, "Are there any things I should be aware of here?"

"Shh—" The innkeeper suddenly became unusually vigilant. He first looked at the sky outside mysteriously, his face full of worry.

"You must be from outside, right? You must stay in your room tonight and put a bowl of clean water in the northwest corner of the room. No matter what noises are happening outside, just remember not to go out."

As the innkeeper spoke, he led them to the doors of two rooms on the second floor.

"This is your room. Remember to lock the doors and windows. Also, we do not provide any food. Water is available, but you'll have to find your own food."

Yan Qing and Yue Qi exchanged a glance. Yue Qi asked the innkeeper for two buckets of water to wash up, but was ruthlessly refused.

"No, we can only give each of you one pot of water at most, that's all we can give you."

The innkeeper's reaction reminded her of something: Article 3 of the "Yongning Lane Rules" states...

Water is sacred, fire is noble. Remember, this is the key to your survival.

It seems that water must have some special role here.

After carefully putting away the kettle and porcelain bowl given to her by the innkeeper, Yan Qing immediately filled the porcelain bowl with water and placed it in the northwest corner of the room.

Yue Qi was somewhat unsure. "Are you sure the innkeeper is telling the truth? What if he's lying to you?"

Yan Qing pulled him to the second-floor window and pointed to a corner of the first-floor lobby.

"Take a look for yourself."

Sure enough, in the northwest corner of the lobby on the first floor, a large bowl of water was placed peacefully.

"Actually, it's not just here. It's the same in the clothing store just now. The store entrance faces the northwest corner, and the bowls on the table are full of water. It seems that this is common sense for the residents of Yongning Lane."

Yan Qing thought that since the third rule was exactly the same as the residents' behavior, it meant that the third rule of "Yongning Lane" should be clean.

Yue Qi nodded. "I think we should review the 'Yongning Lane Rules' again."

"Currently, the second claim is definitely contaminated and is not credible. The first and third claims have been corroborated by innkeepers and are basically reliable. The rest are currently unknown, but I think the fourth claim should also be true."
