Also, these five stores look very close to each other, but they actually feel like a long walk apart.
And what's even more terrifying is yet to come.
Because the two never turned around, they didn't see it. Right behind them, the sun was slowly sinking below the horizon, its last rays falling precisely on them.
After the sun set, all the shops that had been closed suddenly opened their doors.
Then, several humanoid creatures, their bodies covered in sores and their limbs stiff, staggered out of each shop and began to slowly converge in their direction.
If Yue Qi had eyes in the back of his head, he would immediately recognize that this was a zombie that had undergone initial evolution from a low-level, bizarre creature.
The two of them are now sitting ducks in the eyes of these zombies.
Although Yan Qing was running forward desperately, the bracelet on her wrist kept flashing wildly, constantly reminding her that great danger was about to befall her.
It would be a lie to say she wasn't afraid, but the instinct for survival overcame everything. Looking at Yue Qi beside her, she saw him pulling her along, never abandoning her even in this situation.
Suddenly, she felt a surge of courage. When she reached the alley entrance, she was shocked to find that the girl who had been playing hide-and-seek with her eyes covered was nowhere to be seen.
Only a black strip of cloth remained on the ground. And in front of her were three equally glowing paths.
Yan Qing knew that this meant she was being forced to choose one of three paths. Of these three paths, only one was definitely correct.
But which path is the real way out? Yan Qing was starting to worry; she wasn't sure either.
She heard many footsteps behind her, getting closer and closer. She could see Yue Qi beside her draw his soft sword from his waist and assume a desperate stance.
"You choose one, and if all else fails, we'll fight our way out! I believe in you!"
Yue Qi's trust put immense pressure on her; two lives were now hanging in the balance. In this critical moment, Yan Qing's mind raced.
Since there are "Yongning Lane Rules", we must start from the rules.
Unfortunately, after thinking it over, she couldn't find anything related to the rules in front of her. Yan Qing lowered her head, feeling somewhat frustrated. Her luck was simply unbelievable.
For some reason, she suddenly remembered the little girl in the red dress from earlier, who, despite being blindfolded, still smiled sweetly at her.
Then, she discovered the black strip of cloth that had been left on the ground; it was the one the little girl had used to blindfold herself.
Yan Qing looked at the position of the black cloth strip, which resembled a huge black arrow.
Centered on where she was standing, the black cloth strip pointed to the rightmost path.
It seems we have no choice but to take a gamble.
Yan Qing made a snap decision and shouted loudly at Yue Qi, "Quick, go the one on the right!"
Then she rushed in first.
The next moment, she found herself once again in front of the temple at the top of the hill.
Wiping the cold sweat from her brow, it seemed she had made the right gamble this time. The world of supernatural tales, though treacherous, always offers a glimmer of hope; the key lies in whether you can seize it.
They were able to be rescued thanks to that blindfolded little girl.
However, she had no time to relax. The time on her watch showed less than five minutes until nightfall, and she wasn't completely out of danger yet.
Yue Qi appeared quickly, and Yan Qing discovered that he was injured.
As soon as Yue Qi saw Yan Qing, he immediately pulled her forward quickly, shouting, "Don't stop! Those things are catching up!"
No sooner had he finished speaking than a thunderous sound of footsteps came from behind him, indicating that there were quite a few people.
Yan Qing was dragged along by him, running all the way, and finally made it back to the Worry-Free Inn before the sun completely set.
The innkeeper was about to close the door when he saw the two people. His expression immediately changed, and he pulled them inside.
Then he closed and locked the door, all in one smooth motion.
"Where did you two go?! Didn't I tell you not to go out after dark?! Are you crazy?! You—"
This barrage of accusations finally came to an abrupt halt with the sudden appearance of ten hundred-yuan spirit coins, silencing itself with remarkable smoothness.
The innkeeper quickly collected the spirit coins and put on a beaming smile: "You should hurry back to your rooms. It will be completely dark soon. Remember, don't open the door to anyone who knocks."
He turned around and walked into a room, leaving only Yue Qi and Yan Qing behind.
"Then let's go back to our rooms," Yue Qi suggested.
"Wait a minute—" Yan Qing suddenly remembered something and quickly looked around the room. Finally, she peeled a small wooden plaque off a flowerpot in the corner and put it in her pocket.
"Alright, let's hurry up and go."
When the two entered the room, they specifically agreed on a secret code for rendezvous, just in case.
"Remember, when I said 'The evening sky threatens snow,' you replied 'A traveler returns home on a moonlit night,' understand?"
Yue Qi nodded in agreement. Although the little girl's method was simple, it might actually come in handy.
Yan Qing still remembered Yue Qi's injuries, so she took out the medicine she had bought in advance from her backpack and stuffed it into Yue Qi's hand.
"Remember to apply the medicine, don't forget!"
As Yue Qi watched her close the door, he suddenly felt a warm glow in his heart.
He knew he had a special constitution, and from childhood to adulthood, all the people close to him had been inexplicably implicated by him and never seen again.
Therefore, he learned to be alone. He hid his true feelings and treated people coldly, so that at least he wouldn't bring disaster to those around him.
