"You have to die—"
Chu Jiang repeated the sentence again, almost uttering it through gritted teeth. Yet, the way he held Yan Qing in his hands was incredibly careful, as if she were his most precious treasure.
Yan Qing didn't know how to answer either; she was actually very clear about this feeling.
"Actually, I'm quite curious too. Inside the Azure Dragon Coffin, you clearly had several opportunities to kill me, so why didn't you do it? There were only the two of us then. If you had killed me, wouldn't your Qingqing have come back?"
She couldn't understand this question. Why did he let her go time and time again when a single, permanent solution would have been enough?
"Yes, why is that? I could have just killed you, but I chose the difficult path of finding the Azure Dragon Coffin. To be honest, I even doubted myself back then. Was I out of my mind?"
"After thinking it over, the only reason can be related to my split soul. Yue Qi, he truly loves you."
"I know," Yan Qing answered quickly. "So, can you tell me where Yue Qi is right now?"
"Hehehe, little girl, you're still in such a hurry. Can't you even wait a little while?"
Chu Jiang's tone seemed to carry a smile, but Yan Qing instinctively sensed that he was angry. So she wisely shut her mouth.
"Don't worry, I won't waste your time much longer. My becoming a Gold-Rank Title was originally a scheme against the Cave God. I just stumbled upon it by accident. I've been lucky enough to live for so many more years, so I guess I'm the one who benefited."
The next moment, Yan Qing felt the warmth on her eyes fade. She instinctively opened her eyes and was caught off guard by a pair of eyes that were indescribably complex.
Chu Jiang continued to look at her, a hint of reluctance seemingly lingering in his eyes. Then he turned away and said softly,
"Alright, you can leave now."
"The Seven Star Pagoda formation has been broken. Now, it's just like an ordinary Buddhist pagoda. It won't be long before people come up here."
Yan Qing's expression hardened. She had to leave quickly, otherwise she would have no way of explaining herself once the main force rushed up.
As she stood up, she inadvertently glanced at where Chu Jiang was sitting, where a pool of blood was spreading continuously.
Chu Jiang waved to her, "Don't worry, Yue Qi will be back soon."
Yan Qing paused for a moment, then continued running outside without stopping.
The moment she stepped out of the seventh floor, she subconsciously wiped her face and realized that she was already in tears.
"Big sister, over here!"
Xiao Tao appeared at the entrance to the seventh floor and waved to her softly.
"Come with me quickly, the barrier is about to break!"
Yan Qing was pulled along by her and stepped sideways into an inconspicuous pillar at the corner of the stairwell.
Less than a minute after the two disappeared, the barrier at the entrance to the sixth-floor passage suddenly shattered completely, and dozens of people rushed up in a noisy throng.
Wen Jiajia discreetly blended into the crowd and climbed up as well.
"Huh? There's nothing here?!" The person who came up first immediately protested.
The entire seventh floor of the Seven Star Tower was cleaner than any other floor; it was completely bare and empty. It looked extremely shabby.
The crowd erupted in excitement. After all that effort, this was all they got? Anyone would be furious!
"What is that?!"
Immediately, someone noticed something was wrong. In the southeast corner of the hall, there was a pool of dark red blood on the floor, emitting an extremely strong smell of blood.
"Ugh—" someone couldn't help but vomit.
Wen Jiajia cautiously peeked out, looking left and right but couldn't find Yue Qi. Just as she was about to move forward further, the old man beside her tugged at her hand, silently signaling her to hurry downstairs.
Wen Jiajia immediately understood, and so the two of them avoided each other all the way, and finally stepped out of the Seven Star Tower safely.
"Wow, I finally made it out alive! Ahhhhhh—" Wen Jiajia finally couldn't hold back and shouted excitedly.
"Girl—" came the old man's voice from behind, "Tell Yan Qing for me to live well. The world is so big, and there are many wonderful things waiting for her—"
Wen Jiajia turned around abruptly and found that the old man's figure was gradually becoming blurry. She heard his last words.
"Remember to ask her to donate more money; Famen Temple is still waiting for her to give more incense offerings—"
In his final moments, the old man clasped his hands together and performed a standard Buddhist ritual.
"Amitabha, it's time for this old monk to go."
After saying that, the old man's figure completely disappeared. In the night sky, the golden light was particularly dazzling, and Wen Jiajia was stunned for a moment.
One month later.
Wen Jiajia sat in Yan Qing's large villa, slowly sipping the last mouthful of tea.
"That's the truth. I've delivered the message. Please remember to donate!"
Yan Qing's expression was a mix of amusement and exasperation. "Miss, you went through all that trouble to come here just for this?"
"Nonsense!" Wen Jiajia said irritably. "Otherwise, in this chaotic world, why would I go to all this trouble to find you? It can't be to run a dungeon, can it?"
The mere mention of dungeons gave Yan Qing a headache. She waved her hand, looking utterly helpless.
"Forget about dungeons, I've had enough!"
That's right. Although the three major Gold-Tier Title Mysteries were completely wiped out a month ago, and all the dungeons in the entire Apocalyptic Rules and Strange Tales world were downgraded to ordinary dungeons overnight, they still exist after all.
