Although Yan Qing sensed something was wrong with the formation, she was not familiar with the secret arts of the Xuanmen sect, so she could only turn her attention to Yue Qi.
Yue Qi nodded to her.
"Okay." Yan Qing quickly picked up the small wooden blocks and began placing them into the seven empty positions of the formation. But when she got to this point, she encountered a problem.
Actually, although the script on the small wooden sign was the common language of the apocalypse, she had been cramming on it these past few days and had already recognized most of it.
But she doesn't understand the Five Elements and the Eight Trigrams!
Seeing her hesitation, Yue Qi understood. "Don't worry, just do as I say. First, place the first small wooden plaque at the array eye on your right."
Yan Qing did as instructed, and the small wooden block fell into the formation, suddenly disappearing. Then, the faint red color that had been spreading around them began to fade.
Yan Qing was greatly encouraged; it seemed to have really worked! So, without stopping, she placed three small wooden blocks in one go, following Yue Qi's instructions.
The blood-red array that had been spreading began to distort, and then she noticed that the clothing store owner, who had been rolling on the ground clutching his head, slowly stopped.
He stared intently at himself, a strange, blood-red glint flashing across his face. Then, he reached out with both hands, gouged out his own eyeballs, and threw them into the air above the array, disappearing in an instant.
The next moment, Yan Qing was surprised to find that the remaining half of the blood energy in the Seven Star Blood Fiend Array was gradually becoming materialized.
The blood energy frantically gathered in one place, forming a thick, impenetrable blood mist, within which something seemed to be surging wildly. Then, seven or eight long, blood-like threads shot out from the blood mist, as if they were alive, heading straight towards Yan Qing.
"Not good! These are Blood Fiend Silks, Yan Qing, get out of the way!" Yue Qi's longsword rushed forward to protect her, but the Blood Fiend Silks seemed to be invisible to her, passing right past the sword and continuing to probe towards Yan Qing.
Wen Jiajia was also terrified. Yue Qi's longsword was clearly no ordinary weapon, yet it couldn't cause any damage to these blood-fiend threads!
The system's notification echoed in her mind: "Blood Fiend Silk can only be cultivated by those who worship the Yin Messenger Child by offering themselves as sacrifices. This thing is impervious to water and fire, and there is almost nothing that can restrain it—that little girl is doomed."
Meanwhile, Yan Qing was also experiencing the greatest crisis of her life. Seeing that the longsword was ineffective, Yue Qi began frantically throwing out a bunch of explosive talismans, which significantly slowed down the advance of the blood-fiend threads.
However, it didn't have much effect; the distance was simply too close. In almost an instant, the Blood Fiend Silk extended right in front of Yan Qing. She watched helplessly as the tip of the Blood Fiend Silk was less than ten centimeters away from her body.
"I never imagined I'd really be destined to be a cannon fodder female supporting character in a book! I'm so incredibly resentful!"
Yan Qing smiled wryly, but the next change made her eyes light up instantly.
Suddenly, a hazy blue light enveloped his body. The moment the Blood Fiend Silk touched the blue light, it instantly began to ignite.
"Ah—!!!" The clothing store owner collapsed to the ground in pain once again. He stared at Yan Qing with disbelief through his two bloody wounds, sweat pouring down his face.
"How is this possible?! My Blood Fiend Silk is impervious to everything! What the hell are you?!"
As if to verify something, the Blood Fiend Silk changed direction and pierced straight into the body of the unsuspecting Sun Jue beside him.
"Save me—save me—" Sun Jue could only utter these few words with his remaining strength before his voice was quickly silenced.
In just a few breaths, the three watched helplessly as Sun Jue was completely drained by the Blood Fiend Silk, leaving only a thin human skin lying on the ground.
The turn of events was so sudden that none of the three had time to react. Seeing Sun Jue's gruesome death, Wen Jiajia finally couldn't hold back anymore.
Yan Qing heard her gritted teeth, "Explode!" Then she quickly took out a red sphere, shone it on herself, and protected her body.
Yan Qing felt like vomiting blood. This Wen Jiajia clearly didn't care about their lives. Right now, she didn't care about anything else and quickly hugged Yue Qi, the two of them protecting each other in the hazy blue light.
Not long after it was completed, the formation on the ground suddenly began to churn violently, and the surging blood energy was shattered into pieces by a sudden small-scale explosion.
Yan Qing was secretly surprised. This Wen Jiajia really has a lot of good stuff! Who would have thought that those beads, which look like small round balls, would be so powerful?
However, due to the immense power of the explosion, despite the protective magical artifacts on their bodies, the three of them still suffered some injuries, neither minor nor serious.
Because Yan Qing had to focus on protecting Yue Qi, she inevitably got a slap on the back from the shockwave, resulting in a little bleeding, but it wasn't too serious.
As for Wen Jiajia, she only looked a little disheveled, with only a few small cuts on her body, and her injuries were even less severe than Yan Qing's.
Yue Qi, on the other hand, was the most seriously injured of the three. The moment Yan Qing embraced him, he automatically switched places with her, so he absorbed almost all the impact of the explosion.
It was only thanks to his being a member of the Xuanmen sect, whose physique was far stronger than that of ordinary people, that he was able to barely hold on. However, his entire body was covered in blood, clearly indicating that he was seriously injured.
He immediately took out a small porcelain bottle from his pocket, swallowed a life-saving pill, and barely managed to stabilize his injuries.
Yan Qing looked at Wen Jiajia. She really couldn't understand this person. What was the point of hurting herself so much?
