Chapter 47: People are starting to die already?!

Room 302 was a simple double suite, with a bed in the southeast and northwest corners. Yan Qing first placed Yue Qi on the northwest bed, fed him a nutritional supplement, and after confirming that he was alright, she went to pack her things.

Yue Qi looks almost like a normal person now. All the wounds on his body have disappeared, and his face is rosy, showing that he is in excellent health.

Xiao Tao stood by Yue Qi's bedside, carefully touched his hand, then turned around with a happy smile.

"Big sister, big brother is about to wake up! And he'll become even more powerful!"

This news was a stroke of good luck for her. Unfortunately, Xiao Tao was too young; she could only be sure that Yue Qi would wake up within a few days, but she couldn't say exactly how many days.

It seems I have to survive in this sanatorium first.

Strangely enough, everyone else in the instance has been identified as adventurers, except for Xiao Tao, who has brought her all this way. Not only does the woman who gave out the quest ignore her, but there's also no bed for Xiao Tao in room 302.

"Xiaotao, is it okay if you sleep in the same bed with your sister tonight?"

Xiao Tao nodded happily, "I like big sister."

That's good. After settling Xiao Tao in, Yan Qing noticed their work uniforms on the table in the room. One was black, and the other was white. The white one was very familiar; it was a doctor's white coat.

As for the black one, it looks like a long dress.

Yan Qing instantly remembered the "Doctor's Rules," Article 7: If you hear a red alarm sound, please immediately change into black work clothes and pretend you don't exist.

Judging from the rules, this black garment is probably meant to protect against some kind of risk. Therefore, she decided that from now on she would wear it close to her skin, just in case.

The first night went exceptionally smoothly, and Yan Qing finally enjoyed a rare moment of rest. So when she woke up the next morning, she was practically bursting with energy.

Then, at the entrance on the first floor, she encountered six people with ashen faces. Each of them looked dejected and severely traumatized.

Yan Qing was a little puzzled, "What's wrong with you guys? Wait, why is one person missing?"

Xiao Shuo looked up, his eyes bruised and his mouth still bearing the marks of a beating. He seemed a little dazed. Yan Qing waved her hand in front of him for a long time before he slowly came to his senses and grabbed Yan Qing's arm.

"It's terrifying! They're all dead! Sun Rui, he... he was torn apart alive by the head nurse! Right in front of me! Right in front of me, hahahahaha—"

He started laughing, then burst into tears, unable to stop. Yan Qing wanted to ask more, but seeing his lost and dejected state, she figured she wouldn't get any answers.

Looking at the others, they had suffered similar fates. Yan Qing became somewhat curious; were there things in the sanatorium capable of tearing people apart? Had they encountered zombies again?

As she followed the map and entered the main building of the sanatorium, she felt a moment of disorientation. This place looked like a quiet and peaceful hospital, didn't it? And there seemed to be quite a few people here.

As soon as she entered, she ran into Mu Yang, the ophthalmologist who had guided her the day before. He seemed to have been waiting for them.

"Hey! Yan Qing, Yue Qi, you're here!" Mu Yang waved, looking very excited. "Hurry up, the director is calling a meeting at eight o'clock!"

Yan Qing glanced at her watch; it was only 7:50. But her work ID clearly stated that she should report at 8:00.

Goosebumps began to creep up her arms. Yan Qing was extremely grateful that she had a habit of arriving at her destination early; otherwise, the day might have ended prematurely.

It seems that even work permits are full of pitfalls, aside from the rules! She was still a bit careless.

Mu Yang led her at a jog, and they managed to arrive at the ophthalmologist's office just before eight o'clock.

Just before he entered, he only had time to say one thing: "Remember, whatever you do, don't move!"

Here, the doctors were already standing in a neat row. Without saying a word, she quickly followed Mu Yang to the end of the line. Just as they were standing in position, they heard someone push open the door and enter.

The man who entered was a middle-aged man with a dark complexion. He looked extremely thin, but there were large patches of scratches and ulcers on his face and neck, indicating that he was quite contaminated.

The middle-aged man stared straight at Yan Qing as soon as he entered the room. Upon noticing her, he couldn't help but chuckle twice, his mood seemingly normal.

"I am the head of the ophthalmology department. My surname is Xu, but most people call me Director Xu. In our department, everyone must follow my instructions, understand?"

"Got it!" came a chorus of responses from below. Yan Qing quickly opened her mouth and mouthed the corresponding words.

Director Xu nodded with great satisfaction. "That's good. Today is a special day. We welcome our new colleagues. Please give a round of applause to Yue Qi and Yan Qing!" Xiao Tao was still completely ignored by him.

A group of people in white coats turned around to look at Yan Qing. Only then did she realize that these people seemed to have been contaminated to varying degrees, and some of them had even turned into bizarre creatures.

Everyone started clapping in unison, but their faces showed almost no human emotion; they were mostly just following Director Xu's orders.

Yan Qing felt a chill run down her spine under their intense gaze. Working with this group of people—no, this group of strange and unsettling colleagues—made her feel immense pressure.
