Whether it was her imagination or not, Yan Qing noticed that Chen Qi started trembling involuntarily whenever the name "Team Leader Zhu" was mentioned.
She exchanged a glance with Yue Qi; it seemed this Team Leader Zhu was a key figure. Chen Qi appeared quite afraid of her.
As expected, Chen Qi became tight-lipped when Team Leader Zhu was mentioned, and instead changed the subject.
"I've only heard Team Leader Zhu mention the underground laboratory once. It's a forbidden area of this sanatorium; it's said that only the director and Team Leader Zhu are allowed to enter. Anyone else who goes in gets lost and never comes back."
"Get lost as soon as you go in?" Yue Qi sensed something. "Has any of you tried this?"
Chen Qi nodded. "Team Leader Zhu said that long before us, an adventurer ignored warnings and secretly sneaked into the underground laboratory. Three days later, we only found his arm and a pile of scraps of flesh. He never came back."
She still feels lingering fear when she recalls that scene. "I've heard from others that he was just one of the people who tried it. In reality, there are many more people who sneak into the underground laboratory, but none of them ever come back. And all of them have parts of their bodies automatically sent back to the surface, which looks extremely tragic."
At this point, all three fell silent. Yan Qing remembered clearly that Article 5 of the "Sanatorium Rules" stated:
The basement is a restricted area; no one is allowed to enter except the dean and his assistant.
Based on this, it's not hard to deduce that Team Leader Zhu is probably the legendary assistant dean.
So she suddenly asked, "Chen Qi, what else do you know about Team Leader Zhu?"
Chen Qi looked completely bewildered. "Team Leader Zhu is Team Leader Zhu!" She wouldn't say a word more. Instead, she focused all her attention on Yue Qi, trying again to grab his hand.
"Brother Yue, I beg you, please take me away from here."
Unfortunately, Yue Qi, being a martial arts practitioner, was much faster than her, and Chen Qi ultimately missed her target, receiving a warning in the process.
"Stay away from me, don't make me repeat myself."
Seeing the handsome man she was attracted to so coldly, Chen Qi started sobbing silently again, and the atmosphere became awkward for a moment.
Yan Qing had been silently observing her all along. This Chen Qi was quick to change her tune, and Yan Qing didn't trust her.
In addition, she noticed the iron chains and shackles next to Chen Qi's feet. Upon closer inspection, they did not appear to be made of iron, but rather of a bluish-gold metal, which was quite sturdy.
Chen Qi didn't say how she got there, but there were no signs of her anklet being cut. Clearly, someone had deliberately opened it.
That's where things get interesting.
It's no easy feat for a small, helpless little girl to not only escape the chains but also run to this relatively safe fire escape.
She turned to look at Xiaotao and silently made a "strange" mouth shape in the darkness.
Xiao Tao shook her head, indicating her denial. This means that Chen Qi must be the real person.
Yue Qi touched the ground where Chen Qi was sitting and found that it was also ice-cold to the touch, not at all like the temperature of a normal person.
Chen Qi finally spoke up, and her first words immediately poured cold water on their enthusiasm.
"Don't waste your energy, you can't leave here."
Yue Qi and Yan Qing were both the kind of people who didn't believe in superstitions. They were well aware that there was a problem with the fire escape here. But sitting around waiting to die without giving it a try wasn't their style.
Yue Qi took off the silver necklace from his neck again and, without saying a word, put it around Yan Qing's neck, not forgetting to warn her.
"You're not allowed to secretly bring it back to me this time. There's no reason to take back something you gave away as a gift."
Yan Qing felt a little embarrassed at being exposed, but her heart was filled with warmth.
"In that case, I'll accept the necklace. I don't want anything else!"
"Alright!" Yue Qi laughed. "I know you're rich!"
"Of course!" When it comes to money, she absolutely cannot be modest! That's her source of confidence!
However, this time when they were walking downhill, Yue Qi stopped after only a few steps. Yan Qing was a little confused. "What's wrong?"
Yue Qi's tone became serious, "We're back to square one."
"What?!" Yan Qing looked down in the direction he was pointing, and sure enough, she saw Chen Qi's frail and helpless figure once again.
The other person noticed her, looked up, and smiled slightly at her. That smile sent chills down Yan Qing's spine.
She turned to Xiaotao and asked, "Xiaotao, look closely, is there a loop here just like Yongning Lane?"
Xiao Tao was very certain of this, "Big sister, no, there is something here that is deliberately blocking the exit. I can only sense its presence, but I can't find it."
She looked at Yue Qi again, and it was clear that Yue Qi had already noticed as well.
Although Yan Qing didn't know what "that thing" they were talking about was, don't forget that although she didn't know any mystical arts, she still had quite a few treasures on her hands.
