The contrast in Chapter 22 is just too stark.

The knocking outside the window stopped abruptly, and Yan Qing thought it was finally over. But the next moment, she heard something scratching at the door.

It sounds like it's being scratched incessantly with some long tool, somewhat like a female cat scratching wildly with her claws when she's in heat.

However, it was much stronger, and the constant "ripping" sound was very unpleasant to listen to.

Yan Qing stuffed another wad of paper into her ears. She vowed that as soon as she got out of this dungeon, she would go to the Sanglingling app and buy a good quality pair of earplugs!

Just as she was getting annoyed by the noise, she suddenly sensed that something had entered the room.

Yan Qing closed her eyes, tried to relax her breathing, and pretended that she was fast asleep.

The thing didn't seem to come in through the door; it appeared to be floating in the air. As it drew closer, a strange fragrance wafted into Yan Qing's nose.

Yan Qing's bracelet started flashing wildly again. The thing seemed to want to get closer to her, but it was blocked by the thick candle on her bedside table.

The candle flame was incredibly warm, enveloping Yan Qing in its light. Suddenly, "it" let out a piercing scream. The next moment, it instantly turned into a wisp of black smoke and vanished without a trace.

At the same time, without her noticing, the purple bracelet on Yan Qing's wrist faintly shimmered with light.

The ear-piercing scratching at the door continued all night.

When Yan Qing met up with Yue Qi the next day, her dark circles, which were comparable to those of a national treasure, really startled Yue Qi.

"What's wrong? Are you alright?" Yue Qi was a little worried. Could she be sick?

Yan Qing stared at him with her lifeless eyes. "Do I look okay to you? Thank goodness, I was disturbed almost all night last night."

Yue Qi touched his nose, feeling a little awkward. "Did you encounter something last night? Something strange or zombies?"

Yan Qing was utterly speechless. "Young Master, don't tell me you didn't encounter anything all night!"

She pointed to their room door, "We're next door! I don't believe you can't hear me!"

"What did you hear?" Yue Qi was also very curious. "I slept quite well last night. To be honest, it was the best night's sleep I've had since entering the dungeon."

Yan Qing was now truly on the verge of tears. She grabbed Yue Qi's hand and said with utmost sincerity:

"Brother, I really believe you now. I used to be a little skeptical when you said your teammates were always unlucky. But after last night, I'm completely convinced."

She pulled Yue Qi to look at her room door, and when Yue Qi saw the horrific scene in front of her door, he was instantly dumbfounded.

The door to the room was covered with a dense array of long scratches. The marks were so deep that they penetrated the wood, demonstrating the force with which the person scratched the door.

What's even more chilling is that not only the door panels, but also the windows, walls... Yan Qing's room is covered with these dense scratch marks, which is terrifying.

Yue Qi was so surprised he almost couldn't speak. "But last night, I really didn't hear anything! I was wondering at first, thinking there was something wrong with the rules; it should be safe here at night. I never expected—"

Yan Qing shook the pile of lucky charms jingling on her body and looked at him with a resentful expression.

Yue Qi suddenly felt that he was truly guilty of heinous crimes.

However, Yan Qing didn't intend to pursue the matter further. Instead, she pulled him into her room and pointed to a sticky, unidentified dark green liquid on the bedside table, saying...

“Those scratching at the door outside are nothing compared to this. The real danger is this. — Yue Qi, look at what this thing left behind?”

Yue Qi noticed that there was a red candle, about the thickness of an arm, standing on either side of Yan Qing's bedside, which looked like it had been burning all night.

Then, looking at the liquid on the ground, his expression became unusually serious for the first time.

"Yan Qing, I have to tell you, we're probably in big trouble this time."

Yan Qing's mind went blank; she had a bad feeling.

"Tell me, did you smell anything unusual last night?"

There really is one. "Could it be that strange fragrance?"

"A fragrance?" Yue Qi's expression relaxed slightly. "Are you sure you're smelling a fragrance?"

Yan Qing was very certain of this; the fragrance was simply too strange. She had never smelled anything similar before in her life, so it left a deep impression on her.

"That's good, it's a blessing in disguise."

Yue Qi seemed to know her doubts, so he took the initiative to explain to her.

“There must be someone in Yongning Lane using evil magic to worship an evil god,” Yue Qi said with certainty.

To make his point more convincing, he took the initiative to explain to Yan Qing, "I actually come from a Taoist lineage, and evil arts have always been the natural enemy of us cultivators. So naturally I know a little about it."

Yan Qing nodded. It was mentioned in "The Apocalypse" that the male protagonist, Yue Qi, came from the "Tai Xuan Sect," a powerful sect within the Taoist lineage, and was considered the leader of the Taoist lineage.

Therefore, Yan Qing had absolute faith in his judgment.

This made Yue Qi a little embarrassed. Even though they were teammates, wasn't Yan Qing trusting him too much?

Thinking about it this way, he felt an even greater sense of responsibility. Last night, Yan Qing was probably affected by his own bad luck. Luckily, she was quick-witted enough to escape unscathed.
