Chapter 451 The Lingering Ghost... (1/2)

The superhumans who were on guard and carrying out daily duties inside and outside the gate watched the convoy leave until the taillights disappeared at the end of the road. Only then did they seem to breathe a sigh of relief, and then burst into discussion and sighs.

"Wow... that equipment is fucking awesome!" A young superhuman's eyes lit up as he stared in the direction the convoy had disappeared, his tone full of envy.

"He's more than just handsome! Didn't you feel that murderous aura? My heart was racing even from a distance!"

"I heard that from now on, these fifty people will be permanently assigned to go on missions with Captain Chi and Miss Lu! They'll have the best treatment and resources!"

"Huh? Does that mean we have no chance?" Someone suddenly looked dejected.

"What's the panic! I heard from Captain Chi Qi that there will be regular selections in the future, with the best and the worst eliminated! As long as we work hard to improve our abilities and strengthen our training, we'll have a chance in the next selection!"

"I think... it's better to stay at the base. Following Captain Chi and the others might seem glamorous, but it's too dangerous; there are always big incidents..."

Before he could finish speaking, he was immediately refuted by the people next to him.

"You coward! What do you know? Danger? The rewards are great too! Do you know how many crystal cores you get as mission rewards every time you go out with Captain Chi and the others? Plus all sorts of rare resources... priority exchange rights! Who wouldn't want to go?"

"Exactly! Fortune favors the bold! What's more, this isn't just about wealth; it's about bringing honor to our base and eliminating those scourges!...If I had the ability, I'd want to go too!"

"Sigh, everyone has their own ambitions. I just want to live a good life and guard this little corner of the base. Anyway, with Captain Chi and the others clearing out the threats outside, as long as we do our jobs well in the base, we can live peacefully."

......

The convoy drove out of the Flameheart Base area and into the desolate and dilapidated urban area.

Yu Wei, dressed in her battle uniform, sat in the back of the G-Wagon with Lu Nange and Lu Beiye.

Before setting off, all of Yu Wei's few personal belongings and supplies, which were already scarce, were transferred to Lu Nange's space.

Lu Beiye sat by the window, holding Zhizhi in his arms.

Yu Wei appeared somewhat reserved, with her hands on her knees and her back ramrod straight.

Along the roadside, abandoned vehicles are piled up haphazardly or overturned, covered in rust.

The collapsed building exposed twisted steel bars, and broken glass reflected scattered light in the dim sunlight.

The air was thick with dust and the smell of decay.

"Brother, stop the car." Lu Nange's cool voice rang out from inside the car.

The lead car, a Mercedes-Benz G-Class, slowly came to a stop, and the four cars behind it also braked to a stop.

Lu Nange: "Yu Wei, get out of the car. I'll put everything into your space."

Yu Wei nodded, got out of the car, and reached out her hand to a bus that had overturned on its side by the roadside.

Then came a second and a third abandoned car, and even large pieces of concrete debris from collapsed buildings...

Any "trash" that was large enough and heavy enough was collected into the space by Yu Wei at Lu Nange's instruction.

Inside the pickup truck bed, the Flameheart ability user watched this scene with a hint of confusion on his face.

I can understand collecting abandoned vehicles, but why would they even take large chunks of concrete? What's the point?

However, Flameheart's discipline made them suppress their curiosity. No one whispered or talked loudly; they simply remained vigilant, their sharp eyes scanning the surroundings for any potential threats.

They trusted any decision made by Lu Nange and her group, even if the decision seemed strange.

The convoy of five vehicles drove through the deathly silent city, the engine noise the most jarring sound in the area.

We also encountered a few vehicles moving along the way...

A team of survivors scavenging for supplies in the ruins...

When the survivors discovered the menacing convoy, most of them chose to quickly hide or move away, not daring to approach it easily.

As they drew closer to their destination, Shi Xu said, "There's a group of people, quite a few, on the left..."

The lead G-Class slammed on the brakes, the tires screeching as they rubbed against the pavement.
