More passengers began to emerge in the passageway.
In the crowd, several familiar figures approached from afar.
The one leading the group was Lu Xici.
He pushed a fully loaded luggage cart, dodging pedestrians on both sides. His slightly furrowed brows relaxed abruptly when he saw the group of people at the arrival gate, and a helpless smile appeared on his lips.
Half a step behind him, Lu Beiye held his sister Lu Nange's hand with one hand and his mother Sang Niannian's hand with the other.
Rokujin walked on the outside of his wife, his arm loosely wrapped around hers in a protective gesture, his gaze sweeping ahead.
"Meibao! Aye! Over here! Look over here!" He Zhuo was the first to jump up, waving his arms vigorously, his loud voice drowning out the surrounding noise.
Gu Wan grabbed Xiao Yingtao's hand and shook it, exclaiming, "Nan Nan! Here, here!"
Little Cherry was encouraged, and she stomped her little feet as well, calling out in her childish voice, "Mommy, it's Grandma, Auntie, and Uncle!"
The moment Sang Niannian saw Sang Xu, a smile spread across her face: "Second Brother! A-Che! Yanyan!"
Sang Xu strode forward, his arms outstretched, and walked to the five members of the Lu family who were standing nearby.
He patted Lu Jin's back twice, and when his hand landed on Sang Niannian's shoulder, the force was lighter, but he lingered for a longer moment, and his fingertips even tightened slightly.
"Long time no see, little sister, brother-in-law." Sang Xu spoke, his voice a few degrees lower and hoarse than usual, the few words seeming to roll out from the depths of his chest.
Sang Niannian was slightly taken aback by his overly forceful hug, then laughed out loud: "Second brother, we video call each other every few days."
"It's only been two or three months since I last saw you in person, why are you acting like it was a life-or-death separation and a reunion? This is over the top!"
Sang Xu did not immediately respond to the teasing.
He released his arm, his gaze sweeping over Sang Niannian's face.
That look in her eyes was so complex, a mixture of intense relief and a sense of cherishing something lost and found, so profound that it made Sang Niannian's heart skip a beat.
[No, it's two lifetimes.] This thought rolled silently but heavily through his mind.
Sang Che bent down and scooped Lu Beiye up, bouncing him around easily: "Hey, Beiye, did you miss your brother?"
Lu Beiye hugged Sang Che's neck: "Brother Che, what a little man says about wanting or not wanting is just fine!"
"You little ingrate!" Sang Che laughed and rubbed his chin against the top of his head.
Sang Yan put her arm around Lu Nange's shoulder, and everything was understood without saying a word.
"Aunt, Uncle, you must be tired from your journey." Sang Yan turned to Lu Jin and Sang Niannian.
Sang Xu had also composed himself and reached out to Lu Beiye: "Aye, come here, let your uncle give you a hug. Let's see if our little Aye has gained any weight."
Lu Beiye turned away from Sang Che's arms and rushed into Sang Xu's arms.
Sang Niannian and Lu Jin, standing to the side, witnessed all of this interaction.
The two exchanged a quick glance, both seeing a clear look of confusion and surprise in each other's eyes.
[Is it just my imagination? It seems like Second Brother and Nan Nan... and the rest of them, have a better relationship than before?]
Before they could continue exchanging glances, Chi Yanzhou and his group had already gathered around them with smiles.
"Uncle, Auntie!"
"Godfather, Godmother!"
Lu Jin and Sang Niannian smiled and nodded in response, "Okay, okay."
Sang Niannian's attention was drawn to Little Cherry. She opened her arms and her voice softened unconsciously by eight octaves: "Little Cherry! Come here, let Grandma take a look."
Little Cherry let go of her mother's hand and ran to Sang Niannian, stretching out her little arms: "Grandma! Hug me! I missed you!"
Sang Niannian's heart softened completely, and she immediately bent down and hugged her sweet and soft little granddaughter tightly, pressing her face against the little girl's cheek.
"Oh, my precious little darling!"
