Upon hearing an unfamiliar voice, Su Luo slightly raised her eyes and looked towards the bus door.
Interesting. They dared to stop her private car in Mengshan City, a place teeming with monsters, and willingly boarded a two-star monster instance in order to leave the city.
This was the first one Su Luo had ever met.
"Are you sure you want to take this car?"
The man was skin and bones, his shifty eyes darting around as if he were pondering the meaning behind Su Luo's words. Finally, he peeked into the bus and, apart from Su Luo and a pet dog, everything seemed normal and posed no danger. So, he mustered his courage and continued speaking.
"I...I have ghost money and meat here, I...I can trade them!"
Meat?
Hearing this, Su Luo narrowed her eyes and looked over, only then noticing that the man was carrying a large bag on his back. The black outer cloth obscured the contents, but the stench of blood was unmistakable to Su Luo.
Fresh, just slaughtered.
Seeing that Su Luo no longer objected, Zhao Cai raised his hand, and the driver pressed a switch to open the car door and let the man get in.
Just after the man sat down, the fat female ticket seller, who had been asleep, suddenly stood up, picked up Zhao Cai, and walked towards the man.
"Passengers, please be seated and ready to board."
"One coin per person, please insert your coin."
The man placed the backpack in front of him, glanced at the fat woman with lifeless eyes, and tremblingly took out a one-yuan ghost money from his pocket and put it into the box for bringing good fortune.
Having received one yuan in ghost money, the fat woman didn't make things difficult for the man. She turned around and returned to her usual spot, continuing to fall asleep.
Along the way, the bus headed towards the mountain gas station behind Mengshan Mountain.
The man who boarded the bus nervously looked around, and breathed a slight sigh of relief when he realized that Su Luo was the only passenger on the entire bus.
As he watched the street scenes of Mengshan City recede into the distance, the man couldn't contain his excitement. Finally, he was leaving that awful place!
It was worth waiting for the rescue.
Just as the bus was about to leave the outskirts of Mengshan, the man suddenly pointed to a bus stop sign that appeared ahead and said, "Driver, may I get off?"
Yes, of course.
Su Luo silently watched the lean man get off the car with his backpack on his back. Under the glow of the red moon at dusk, there was no longer a silhouette behind him.
These people always think they've escaped, but they've actually ascended to heaven.
Su Luo shook her head, only then remembering that the man's pocket was still inside the bus.
"Sister, it's... rice meat!"
"It's fresh, and it's a woman."
Now this bus is Su Luo's private vehicle. As soon as the man got off the bus, Zhao Cai couldn't wait to throw the blood-stained package away.
"Oh, this woman is wearing a ring on her finger, the same one as the man who just got off the bus, they look like a pair!" Zhao Cai noticed this while moving around, spat out a disgusted look, and said sarcastically. Then he noticed that there were quite a few bruises on the tender flesh inside the package.
Some of the bruises had been there for quite some time, and to cover them up, some were even covered with makeup.
Su Luo coldly glanced at the fresh meat in the package and snorted. It seemed that the man often beat people at home. Even after all this, he still didn't break up with her. He deserved this fate.
“These wild monsters by the roadside are quite pitiful; they’re all starving and thin.”
"Zhao Cai, since you've come to Mengshan once, consider this a toll and give it to those wild monsters to eat."
"Alright!" Upon hearing this, Zhao Cai enthusiastically used all four hands to lift the shroud, stretched it out of the bus window, held it high, and shouted towards the area where the ghosts were gathered.
"Hey, you little monsters over there, dinner's ready!"
Then, a black cloth fell down, and the fresh meat inside rolled out and was quickly swallowed up by the group of wild monsters.
Ten minutes later.
The closer they got to the last gas station, the more desolate and sparsely populated the area became, with abandoned farmland all around. If it weren't for Zhao Cai's certainty, Su Luo would never have imagined that there would be a gas station in this place.
"Sister, don't be fooled by how desolate this place is now, where even ghosts don't come. Long ago, this was the heart of Mengshan."
Su Luo raised an eyebrow, thinking to herself, "You make it sound like you've been to Mengshan or Blue Star for ages." But despite her thoughts, she didn't interrupt Zhao Cai and continued listening to him.
"Back then, there were hot springs here, and many people came here for vacation and relaxation. But later, for some reason, something seemed to happen to the hot spring hotel. The news spread like wildfire, and people stopped coming. It was abandoned."
So that's how it is.
So, the leisure industry was developed because of the hot springs, but when the hot springs themselves had an accident, the shopping malls, gas stations, and small supermarkets that opened up around them naturally couldn't keep up with the business and eventually all closed down.
"You seem to know a lot."
"That's right." Zhao Cai put his hands on his hips, looking smug. "Don't you know who I am? I've traveled all over the country without a second thought. I can't speak for other things, but I've certainly heard a lot of these strange and bizarre stories!"
Looking at Zhao Cai's smug appearance, Su Luo then looked down at the steamed bun on her lap and suddenly realized that Zhao Cai's actions and the steamed bun's expressions when they congratulated her on getting rich were quite similar.
Ah, keeping a ghost as a pet, I don't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing?
"Sis, there's a gas station up ahead. Dusk has passed, and the blood moon is about to rise. Shall we hurry back?"
"good."
Su Luo nodded. Zhao Cai told the driver to stop the bus in a more secluded spot, leaving Su Luo to wait inside as usual. He then quickly hopped off the bus, ready to pull off one heist and leave...
One minute.
Three minutes.
Ten minutes passed, and there was still no sign of Zhao Cai returning.
This isn't right.
Something must have happened!
Could a gas station in a remote, abandoned town possibly be the place to encounter a high-level monster? However, the fortune-bringing talisman remained unchanged, and at least for now, his life was safe.
Thinking of this, Su Luo put down the steamed bun and told the bus driver to drive the bus further away and hide it, and not to come out without their permission.
He then got off the bus on his own.
In the sky, the silver full moon gradually turned into a blood-red crescent moon, foreshadowing the arrival of night, when all the monsters would be even more frenzied than during the day.
Su Luo raised his hand and took out a dagger from the bandage on his thigh. He looked around cautiously and cautiously made his way toward the gas station.
As Su Luo got a little closer, he seemed to hear people talking inside the gas station, and it sounded like there was an argument. Then came the familiar sound of gunfire, and after a few bullets, things quieted down.
Is that all?
Since it was a gunshot, it shouldn't be related to Zhao Cai. After all, firearms aren't very effective against ghosts, so if a gun is being used, it's obviously not aimed at a ghost.
But isn't using a gun at a gas station a bit too stupid? It shows a complete lack of common sense!
Su Luo silently scoffed at the other person's lack of common sense, wondering if she should take a detour and climb into the small supermarket on the side to take a look, when a sharp female voice rang out with an undeniable arrogance.
"What are you doing hiding there so suspiciously? Come out!"
