Chapter 8: Little Joy

Chen Fang did not sleep well last night. Her fear and confusion about the future made her toss and turn. The roars of zombies and screams of humans that could be heard from time to time in the darkness gave her nightmares and she woke up from them from time to time.

It was not until the early morning that she fell into a drowsy sleep.

When I woke up again, the sun was already high in the sky outside.

The surroundings were very quiet. If there had not been no one around her and the red color on the glass of the building opposite was still eye-catching, she would have thought that everything that happened yesterday was just a nightmare.

"I almost forgot. I closed the windows last night to block out the noise from outside. No wonder it was so hot!"

Chen Fang's mind gradually became clear. The stuffy environment in the room made her body form a layer of wet and sticky sweat, which was very uncomfortable!

She struggled to get up and opened the window, and warm air hit her face.

The sun was shining outside, but the community was empty, with no one in sight.

There are no more piercing car horns, noisy square dancing, noisy children playing...

Everything looks so harmonious and peaceful.

Chen Fang suddenly had an illusion that she was the only one left in the world.

Fear and panic surged into my heart...

Fortunately, at this moment, a "ding" sound suddenly came from the living room next door.

Chen Fang instantly thought of a name - Han Yang!

A feeling of joy welled up in my heart, like a traveler in the desert discovering an oasis.

He is exercising!

Chen Fang watched for a long time yesterday and knew that Han Yang was practicing stabbing with an umbrella.

I am not alone...

Chen Fang calmed down a bit, and then she walked into the bathroom to take a shower.

But the next moment, she froze in place.

"The water supply is cut off?"

She suddenly recalled what Han Yang had said.

"I don't know when rescue will come... The power is out now, and I guess the water and gas will be out soon..."

Chen Fang immediately ran to the kitchen and turned on the gas stove. She could only hear the flint making a continuous "crackling" sound, but no gas came out at all.

"The gas...is also out!"

A sharp question involuntarily popped up in her mind: Is there really no rescue?

"What's wrong?"

Han Yang stopped exercising, stared at Chen Fang without blinking, and couldn't help muttering in his heart.

This woman is dressing more and more arrogantly, does she think I'm not a man?

“The water and gas are out!”

Chen Fang pursed her lips and felt her throat was very dry.

Fortunately, I prepared some water yesterday...

Thanks to this man, we were prepared in advance!

Chen Fang looked at Han Yang and found that his eyes were a little strange, as if he was staring at her.

Chen Fang lowered her head slightly and realized that she was not dressed properly.

It was too hot last night, so she changed her short-sleeved shirt into a silk camisole with less fabric, without any underwear...

Chen Fang's face turned red and she immediately ran back to her room.

Han Yang looked at the swaying waves and felt angry. He drank half a bottle of water in big gulps before he stopped his impulse.

Chen Fang returned to her room, closed the door, leaned against it, and then she breathed a sigh of relief.

Just now... I exposed a bit too much!

Chen Fang looked down at herself, a hint of shyness flashing across her face.

But then I thought, I'm wearing more clothes than a swimsuit...

It's nothing!

She sat down on the edge of the bed, drank some water, and comforted herself, but Han Yang's burning gaze flashed through her mind from time to time.

She had noticed Han Yang staring at her legs before, but his gaze was quite subtle at that time, unlike the past two days when he was so unconcealed.

With the arrival of the end of the world, he seemed like a different person. Of course, it might also be that we didn’t know him well enough in the past.

Chen Fang took a deep breath, went to the bathroom, used some of the water she had prepared yesterday, and simply washed her body.

After washing up, Chen Fang hesitated for a moment, then found a pair of slightly loose sweatpants to change into, dressed neatly, and walked out of the room.

Han Yang was still exercising. Chen Fang didn't know if it was an illusion, but she saw that his lips seemed to curl slightly.

He doesn't like the way I'm dressed?

Chen Fang thought about it subconsciously, and actually felt a little secretly happy in her heart!

"Have you had breakfast?"

Chen Fang asked him.

"I've eaten. Now the gas is out and there's no way to cook. You can also eat in the hot pot!"

Han Yang had just finished practicing a set of Dragon Elephant Body Building Technique and stopped to take a short rest.

"What should we do next? The cooked food will eventually run out!"

Chen Fang looked worried.

"I'll go out tomorrow and see if I can collect anything useful!"

"We still have a lot to eat, there's no need to go out so early!"

Chen Fang tried to dissuade him, saying that if Han Yang went out, what would she do if he didn't come back?

"I know, but food alone is not enough. What we lack most now is water."

Han Yang paused and continued:

“Although we have some reserves, I have to exercise every day and sweat a lot, so I need to replenish a lot of water.

The water at home is not enough for the two of us to consume for long.

Besides, I am not going to act rashly. I plan to clean up the corridor first and lock the door of the unit downstairs.

This way at least the building will be safe. We can light a fire and cook in the hallway. It’s safer than at home and we don’t have to worry about burning things!”

It is impossible for a living person to be suffocated to death by urine. There is no gas or electricity, but there is still the most primitive way of chopping wood and making fire.

However, there are too many flammable materials in the room, and if you are not careful, it may lead to a disaster.

In his previous life, Han Yang had seen an entire building burned down due to a fire started indoors.

It is much safer in the corridor because the stair railings are made of iron and there is nothing to burn.

Chen Fang pursed her lips, the worry on her face did not diminish, but she said nothing more.
