Chapter 152 Arrival in the Suburbs

When Xiao Jingchen woke up, he subconsciously patted the person next to him, but Ye Ning was nowhere to be seen. So he put on his clothes and went to the living room.

Sure enough, Ye Ning was there. Her chestnut-brown long curly hair cascaded down her off-white silk pajamas like a waterfall, and her unadorned profile was delicate and gentle.

"Why are you up so early!" Xiao Jingchen put his arm around Ye Ning's shoulder from behind the sofa and gently kissed her cheek.

"Ten o'clock is still early!" Ye Ning said reproachfully.

"What are you looking at?" Xiao Jingchen sat down next to Ye Ning.

The television was playing an emergency broadcast from City A on a loop.

"Oh! So the zombies have finally arrived!" Xiao Jingchen casually placed the remote control on the coffee table.

He had been busy upgrading his superpowers during this time, so he hadn't paid much attention to the zombies.

Ye Ning nestled in Xiao Jingchen's arms, their fingers intertwined.

"I wonder if Uncle Gao can hold out!" She wasn't too afraid of zombies now.

The shelter is now fully equipped inside and out, with an outermost electric fence and a double-layered wall.

Barring unforeseen circumstances, it is highly unlikely that any zombies will break through the blockade.

Compared to the shelter, Ye Ning was more worried about Gao Feng's side, since they had no experience in dealing with zombies.

"It's alright, with Zhao Xuan and the other two there, there shouldn't be any major problems."

Because the shelter was short-staffed, two more people were transferred from the base. Of the people from the Xiao family who came initially, only Zhao Xuan and his companion remained to oversee the situation.

In addition, four honest and simple people were selected from the newly recruited superhumans to help Lei Siming manage the training base.

Ye Ning specially built a row of small houses for them to live in along the wall.

"By the way! Jingchen, let's eat first!" It's already past eleven o'clock, and Wang Ma and the others have already started preparing lunch.

Ye Ning didn't ask Wang Ma to prepare breakfast today. She took out two steamers of chicken soup dumplings, two steamers of shumai, one steamer of dumplings, and two bowls of corn and pork rib soup from her space.

These are all the dim sum meals she stocked up on before the apocalypse.

After the two finished their breakfast, they walked out of the residential area. When Wang Ma and the others saw Ye Ning and the others come out, they immediately surrounded them.

"Miss, I've been hearing this alarm all morning! Could something serious have happened?" Wang Ma asked anxiously.

"It's nothing! There's been a little unexpected event outside, so I probably won't be able to go out for a while!" Ye Ning said casually.

No matter how complicated the explanations are, Wang Ma and the others will not understand.

"That's good! That's good!" Wang Ma said with a look of relief.

It's really nothing major; it's just the second time the world has collapsed.

“Wang Ma, Uncle Liu, please note that starting tomorrow, a curfew will be in effect after sunset.”

"From now on, dinner time will be moved to 4:30 pm, and the power must be turned off after 5:30 pm."

"Try not to leave your room at night. If you must leave your room, you can only use night vision goggles. You must never use a flashlight or a mobile phone!"

Zombies are extremely sensitive to light, especially at night; their eyes can even detect light sources a kilometer away.

"Starting tomorrow, the wind turbines will be temporarily shut down and will be restarted in a year, so you must conserve electricity during this period." In my previous life, the power was cut off quickly after the zombie siege.

"Also, try not to speak loudly outdoors during the day..."

If zombies happen to be nearby, they might want to have a friendly chat with you.

Just as Ye Ning and Wang Ma were explaining the precautions,

Meanwhile, the massive zombie horde was getting closer and closer to City A.

A forest park in the suburbs of City A.

After the extreme cold arrived, the forest rangers who originally lived here were doing quite well because of the abundant forest resources and the sparse population, which allowed them to stock up on supplies.

Unfortunately, the place was too remote, so they were unaware of the alarm issued in City A.

At 11:30 a.m., Old Yan, the forest ranger, was cooking as usual. Today he was making fish soup, which he had caught from a nearby pond.

The snow-white fishpond bubbled and gurgled. Old Yan leisurely sipped his wine while patiently waiting for the fish soup to thicken.

Just then, the door was pushed open with great force, bringing in a gust of cool air that nearly overturned the fish soup.

The person who came was Lao Yan's companion, Lao Yao.

"Old Yao, what are you doing? Why are you in such a hurry!" Old Yan grumbled discontentedly.

"Old Yan, you didn't see it! There are so many people here. I just saw it, it's a dense mass of heads, at least tens of thousands!" Old Yao said breathlessly.

"Tens of thousands of people?! What are they doing here? Old Yao, are you getting old and your eyesight is failing you? Did you drink too much last night?" Old Yan said irritably.

"What nonsense are you talking about? I didn't drink yesterday! If you don't believe me, go out and see for yourself!" Old Yao retorted defiantly.

"Fine, I'll go!" Old Yan was a stubborn man. "Don't touch my fish soup! I'll be right back!"

"Alright, alright, go ahead! Don't worry, I won't drink your fish soup!"

As soon as the door closed, Old Yao hummed a little tune and contentedly took a small bowl and scooped up some fish soup. If there's food to eat, why wouldn't you eat it? Wouldn't that be foolish?
