"Jingchen, should we go to the oil depot or the coal yard first?"
Ye Ning was surprised to find the lumber mill, which she had expected to be the most likely place to encounter zombies, surprisingly peaceful. Perhaps they had misjudged the situation; this was not a zombie outbreak area.
"Let's go to the oil depot next! It's the closest one to here!" Xiao Jingchen said without hesitation.
“Okay!” Ye Ning nodded in agreement.
The helicopter took off and flew rapidly toward the northwest.
Fifteen minutes after Ye Ning and the others left, the first zombie appeared at the lumberyard. It was ragged, missing half an arm and half of its face. It wandered aimlessly in the open space with its head down and hands hanging limply.
Soon, a second zombie appeared, then a third, and then hundreds more. They wandered around the open space for a while before gradually hiding in various corners, waiting for their prey to arrive.
It turns out that this wasn't a zombie outbreak area, but rather that they had perfectly timed their arrival to avoid the zombies.
"Jingchen, it's over there!" Ye Ning could see the huge oil tanks in the oil depot from afar, which were several stories high.
Even without Ye Ning saying anything, Xiao Jingchen had already seen it.
The helicopter landed smoothly in a parking lot next to the oil depot, a parking lot filled with rusty cars.
"Jingchen, let's go!" Ye Ning was the first to jump off the helicopter.
"I wonder how much stock is left in this oil depot." Ye Ning remembered the grandfather and grandson she and Xiao Jingchen met at another oil depot when the extreme cold first started. She wondered how they were doing now, and whether they had successfully made it to H country.
"I'll try to see if I can store the oil can directly into my spatial storage." She had never tried storing something so big into her spatial storage before!
Ye Ning placed her hand on the huge oil tank, attempting to retract the entire tank into her spatial storage.
She opened her eyes a minute later.
"No! The oil tank is too big!" Ye Ning shook her head.
"Let's proceed with the original plan and repackage it as intended!" Ye Ning put on her apron and took out the oil cans that had been prepared in advance from her spatial storage.
The two of them immediately got to work.
"Ye Ning, don't move. Let me do all the dirty and tiring work!" Xiao Jingchen said with some heartache as he saw the oil stains on Ye Ning's fair skin.
"I'm fine! You're too slow on your own. I'm not that delicate, I can manage!" Having survived for ten years in the apocalypse in her previous life, she had endured all kinds of hardships and was no longer the pampered young lady she once was.
"But I hope you can always be spoiled in front of me!" Xiao Jingchen looked intently at Ye Ning.
If anyone else saw this, they would definitely complain, "What time is it? How can you still be having such a romantic time? The zombies are coming soon, why don't you hurry up?"
"Alright! Let's get started! It'll be troublesome if the zombie horde comes later." Ye Ning said, blushing.
The two began to systematically pack the fuel, and in just one hour, they had already packed more than 100 cans.
"Jingchen, it seems like we're running low on oil!" Ye Ning frowned as she looked at the remaining oil tanks.
"There should be more around here. I'll go look again! You stay here and wait for me!" Xiao Jingchen handed the pistol to Ye Ning, then draped the vest over her shoulders, turned around, and walked off to other places.
"Jingchen, let me go with you!" Ye Ning tugged at Xiao Jingchen's sleeve, her expression pleading. "I'm a little scared to leave me here alone!"
Being with Jing Chen was fine, but the thought of him leaving sent chills down her spine.
"Okay, I'll be right back!" He was worried that there might be zombies lurking in the shadows, but at least this place was open and seemed safe for now.
"Jingchen, take me with you! I'll be good." Ye Ning put on a pitiful expression.
"Alright then!" Xiao Jingchen was most afraid of Ye Ning showing this kind of expression. Every time she showed this expression, it meant that he was about to surrender.
"Then you follow behind me."
The two carefully walked towards the workshop behind the oil tank.
"Jingchen, this looks like a warehouse. I wonder if there are any here." Ye Ning pointed to a house not far ahead.
"Let's go take a look! Ye Ning, you stay behind me." Xiao Jingchen shielded Ye Ning behind him, then picked up a stick and carefully poked the door open.
Inside, it was pitch black, with only a mountain of sheet metal cans vaguely visible.
"Jingchen, it looks like there are some in here!" Ye Ning exclaimed excitedly. She pushed Xiao Jingchen aside and tried to use her spatial ability to collect all the jars inside.
She placed her hand on the oil cans, and in an instant, hundreds of oil cans appeared in her space.
"Watch out!" Before Ye Ning could even feel happy, she was suddenly tackled to the ground by Xiao Jingchen.
At the same time, a gust of wind rushed towards her and just brushed past her.
Is this a zombie? Before she could react, a gust of wind swept towards her again.
As her eyes gradually adjusted to the darkness, in the blurry light and shadow, she saw a zombie with bloodshot eyes pounce on her as nimbly as a wildcat.
A dozen or so zombies squatted on the ground like wild beasts, gnawing on a corpse that had been gnawed beyond recognition. This must have been a survivor from the original site, who had managed to escape the extreme cold but ultimately couldn't escape the zombies.
"Jingchen!" In that split second, the only thing she could think of was calling out to Xiao Jingchen.
Xiao Jingchen pulled Ye Ning, who had fallen to the ground, to her feet and swiftly darted out of the warehouse. He then kicked the door shut, slamming it shut. The zombies scratched at the door, but unfortunately, it was made of lead, preventing them from getting out.
