Lin Mengru was so excited watching the discussion in the group that she almost couldn't hold it in.
Great! At least we're saved. With so many survivors, we're sure we can fight off the zombies.
And then there's Canglan. He remained calm and composed in this critical moment, almost like a savior. His detailed analysis and bold yet meticulous approach were just too cool. She felt like she was in love again.
With a goal in mind, Lin Mengru's fighting spirit was instantly rekindled. She tiptoed to the bathroom, carefully turned on the faucet, and used a towel soaked in rusty water to wipe her face.
At that moment, she was truly grateful that Li Jin held a high position in the rescue center and even had a private bathroom.
An hour later, she looked at herself in the mirror and showed a satisfied expression.
Although she had become so thin due to long-term malnutrition that she looked somewhat unrecognizable, she was still beautiful overall.
Just as Lin Mengru was feeling sorry for herself in the bathroom.
"Tap tap tap!" The sound of zombie footsteps echoed outside the door again, and Lin Mengru quickly held her breath.
Although she had the door fixed this morning, she still felt it wasn't sturdy enough. How could a patched door be as solid as the original? It couldn't even withstand a zombie's slap.
That idiot Li Jin thought solid wood doors were more stylish. He thought a stainless steel door would be much better, and she wouldn't have to live in such fear now.
Actually, at this point he still underestimated the zombies' attack power. Solid wood couldn't stop them, and neither could the two thin steel plates of a stainless steel door, unless it was made of solid metal.
"Tap tap tap!" The zombie stopped at the door again.
Oh my god! No way! It stopped here again. There are 38 rooms in this row, and it stopped here twice in one day. Is it that unlucky?
Lin Mengru feels like she's on the verge of depression.
In the deathly silence, Lin Mengru felt she could hear her own heartbeat.
"Bang! Bang bang!" She closed her eyes in alarm.
"Bang bang bang!" The familiar sound of zombies tearing down doors, but thankfully, the sound wasn't coming from her room door.
The zombies weren't targeting her; they were targeting the room next to hers.
Lin Mengru tiptoed back to the lounge and carefully locked the door behind her.
"Bang! Bang! Crash!" Just then, the door was smashed open by the zombies.
Both women experienced zombies breaking down doors, but the woman next door was clearly not as calm as Lin Mengru.
She kept screaming and then frantically smashed the zombie's outstretched hand with things in the room.
What she didn't know was that the more she did this, the more zombies she attracted.
"Get out! Get out of here! Go somewhere else!"
"I'll beat you to death! I'll beat you to death!"
"Please, I beg you, please leave! I have elderly parents and young children to support!"
If reasoning worked, zombies would have starved to death long ago.
The door was quickly broken open by the zombies, and the woman's screams came from the next room.
"No! Help!"
"Don't eat me! My flesh doesn't taste good!"
"Help! Help!"
Screams and the sound of things being smashed kept coming from the next room. The woman kept running away. She ran to the balcony and then closed the balcony door.
Although Lin Mengru was very scared, she couldn't suppress her curiosity and secretly looked through the crack in the window at the terrace opposite him.
The woman was hiding on the balcony, her face filled with terror. Inside the room, zombies were attacking her, while downstairs, even more zombies were lurking with outstretched arms.
But there's no way to move forward or backward.
How could a glass terrace door possibly stop a zombie attack?
"Crack! Crash!" In just three seconds, the glass door to the terrace was smashed by the zombies.
The woman wore a look of despair.
The next second, she was pounced on by a zombie and knocked to the ground. The zombie bit her neck, and blood gushed out, forming a jet of blood that sprayed all over the terrace.
The zombies downstairs smelled the blood and surged up the stairs in a frenzy.
After the woman's carotid artery was bitten off, she did not die immediately. In the few seconds before she regained consciousness, she seemed to see Lin Mengru, and she used all her strength to reach out in Lin Mengru's direction.
"Help me, help me!" she screamed hoarsely with her last bit of strength.
Lin Mengru covered her mouth in fear; she had almost screamed.
The woman's voice abruptly stopped the next second as another zombie decisively bit through her throat.
Her eyes were wide open, blood streaming from them, staring intently in Lin Mengru's direction, as if accusing her, "Why didn't you save me?"
The zombies downstairs formed a human ladder and reached the terrace. They frantically pounced on the woman's corpse, tearing and gnawing at it. Under the biting of dozens or even hundreds of zombies, the woman quickly turned into a pair of white bones stained with blood and flesh.
But the remaining zombies, their eyes already bloodshot from the sight of fresh flesh and blood, began to frantically attack their fellow zombies who were covered in fresh blood, when there was no food to eat.
In an instant, rotting flesh and severed limbs flew apart.
Seeing this scene, Lin Mengru almost vomited. She quickly covered her mouth and dared not look anymore. She regretted that she had been so curious to look at these things.
Lin Mengru huddled in the corner, afraid to make a sound, lest the zombies sense her voice and climb over from the other side of the terrace.
When will this life of constant anxiety finally end?
After an unknown amount of time, the zombies finally dispersed, and Lin Mengru had long since fallen asleep in fear.
She woke up at eight o'clock in the evening, and her stomach was rumbling as soon as she woke up.
She took a compressed biscuit from a box, then tiptoed to the bathroom, filled a small bowl with water from the rusty faucet, and soaked the biscuit in the water.
In no time, the cookie dough turned into a turmeric-colored paste, constantly bubbling.
Even dogs wouldn't eat this, but Lin Mengru ate it with great relish.
Back when she was enjoying a gourmet meal in a high-end restaurant, she probably never ate this ravenously.
She devoured the bowl of porridge in just a few bites, and even licked the bottom of the bowl reluctantly, as if afraid of wasting a single crumb.
Although she still had a lot of food stored in the room, the situation was unclear, and she didn't know how long she would be trapped here, so she had to eat sparingly.
After finishing the bowl of porridge, Lin Mengru felt her body warm up again, but she was still very hungry.
Since we cannot effectively replenish energy, we can only reduce our daily energy expenditure.
Lin Mengru continued to lie in bed, covered herself with the blanket, and soon fell asleep again.
Lin Mengru was actually quite lucky. At least Li Jin had a rest room here, and she could lie down and sleep in a bed. Most of the offices didn't even have beds, and some survivors had to sleep on the floor.
