"Brother Cang, we've reached the coastline!" The driver had become quite familiar with Cang Nan over the past two days.
"We've finally arrived!" Canglan couldn't contain his excitement and stood up.
"Brother Cang, they've landed here. I'll fly you to the Federation's base so you don't have to transfer here again." Li Churan had already given the instructions and took Canglan directly to the Federation's base.
"That's wonderful, thank you!" Canglan was genuinely grateful.
"It's alright!" The driver turned around and flew towards the federal base.
An hour later, Canglan finally jumped off the helicopter. Outside was City B, the federal settlement.
"Brother Cang, no need to thank me, you're being too polite," the driver quickly waved his hand.
"Brother Cang, alright, you go ahead! I need to hurry back!"
"Until we meet again!" Canglan said goodbye.
As the helicopter departed, Canglan finally began heading towards the city.
Half an hour later, he finally returned to his and Jiaqi's "home".
He took out his treasured key from his pocket, inserted it into the lock, and after turning it twice, the door finally opened.
"Jiaqi, are you there? I'm back!" Canglan's voice was full of anticipation.
But all he got in return was a room full of dust and silence.
Jiaqi, she's not here.
Canglan slowly pushed open the door and went inside.
The room was covered in dust, and the furniture was scattered haphazardly on the floor, making it look like it had been ransacked, a complete mess.
Jiaqi's belongings were all taken away, while his things remained untouched in the house.
The move seemed to have been very rushed; his and Jiaqi's photo frames were scattered all over the floor, and the glass on the frames was shattered, like glistening teardrops scattered on the ground.
"Where did Jiaqi go? Was she picked up by her family?" Canglan felt inexplicably uneasy. He casually opened a drawer and found it full of photos of him and Jiaqi. Jiaqi hadn't taken a single one, not even the gifts he had given her.
He stood under the chandelier in the living room and made a phone call to Jiaqi.
"Beep beep beep!" This time the call went through, but after one ring, it was quickly disconnected.
What exactly happened? Did something happen to Jiaqi?
He called Jiaqi's home, but the same thing happened; the call was hung up after one ring.
What on earth is going on? Canglan was completely baffled. Where did Jiaqi go?
Left with no other choice, Canglan had to wait at Jiaqi's best friend's doorstep.
Because she was too excited to sleep last night, and after a day of wandering, Canglan was really exhausted. Fortunately, she fell asleep on the marble pillar outside the door without even realizing it.
It wasn't until 5 p.m. that Canglan was awakened by the noise of the car.
A black, sleek Rolls-Royce pulled up at the entrance.
Upon hearing the sound, Canglan quickly stood up. Because of the car's obstruction, the people inside did not notice its presence.
The car door slowly opened, and a short-haired woman with a bright and cheerful appearance jumped out of the car.
This person is Jiaqi's best friend, Zhou Xiaofu. She and Luo Jiaqi grew up together since childhood. Their family backgrounds are similar, and their relationship is unbreakable.
"Zhou Xiaofu!" Canglan quickly waved and greeted Zhou Xiaofu. Since she was Jiaqi's best friend, he naturally knew her.
"You are... Cangnan." Zhou Xiaofu's expression was as if she had seen a ghost. "How did you get back? We all thought you... When did you come back? We've never heard of you!"
"This is a long story, I'll tell you about it another time! By the way, where's Jiaqi? I didn't see her when I got home, and all her things were moved out!" Canglan wasn't in the mood to talk about anything else; he just wanted to see Jiaqi as soon as possible.
“Um, Luo Jiaqi, she…” Zhou Xiaofu looked embarrassed.
"What's wrong? Did something happen to Jiaqi?" Canglan shook Zhou Xiaofu's shoulder excitedly.
“Um, Jiaqi, she…” Zhou Xiaofu didn’t know how to start, and she glanced awkwardly toward the car.
Canglan turned her head to follow Zhou Xiaofu's angle.
He could vaguely see a delicate silhouette inside the car; it was Jiaqi, the woman he had been longing for day and night.
As he waited, the car door slowly opened, and a petite and pretty young woman awkwardly stepped out of the car. Yes, it was Jiaqi, but compared to before, she looked a little bloated and haggard.
"Jiaqi, so you're here! I just got home and didn't see you. I almost thought something had happened to you!" Canglan strode excitedly toward Luo Jiaqi.
Looking at the unfamiliar yet familiar face before her, Luo Jiaqi revealed a resentful expression, "Cang Nan, I'm sorry!"
"Jiaqi, what did you say? What apology!" Canglan was still immersed in the excitement of seeing her lover and was completely unaware that something was wrong with Jiaqi.
Seeing that Canglan was almost in front of her, she subconsciously took two steps back.
"Jiaqi, what's wrong with you? You..." Canglan's smile suddenly froze. He stood there, his eyes wide, staring incredulously at Luo Jiaqi, who was so close to him.
She was wearing a loose-fitting light green dress, and her hands were clasped together as she gently touched her belly.
On her snow-white and slender ring finger, a pink pigeon egg gleamed.
Under her hands, her once flat abdomen suddenly bulged, and judging from the curve of the bulge, she was at least five months pregnant.
"I'm sorry, Cangnan! I'm so sorry!" Tears streamed down her cheeks, one by one.
This isn't real, this isn't real, this isn't real.
"Cangnan, I'm sorry. When you lost contact, I really thought something had happened to you." Jiaqi looked at Canglan, who was standing there blankly with no expression, and felt inexplicably panicked. She would rather he blame her, at least she would know what he was thinking.
Seeing the awkward atmosphere, Zhou Xiaofu quickly stepped in to smooth things over, "Cangnan, we really thought you were dead back then. Jiaqi was heartbroken, so... But things are what they are now, and Jiaqi is already married, so just forget about her!"
"Cangnan, I know I'm sorry, but I really didn't know what to do at the time, so I accepted the blind date without thinking. I really thought you were dead..." Jiaqi said, tears streaming down her face.
As Canglan listened to the two women singing back and forth, he felt his ears ringing, with a sharp, metallic buzzing sound constantly ringing in his ears.
He didn't know how much time had passed before he finally calmed down.
