Chapter 95 A Group of Hungry People
Thump, crash, crack, clatter... The sound of dirt and hard stones rolling onto the ground rang out.
A person who is starving and tries to distract themselves only hears the sound when they are hit by a stone.
"Gu Tiangang!"
Wang Leran has a talent for drawing cakes to satisfy hunger; the cakes she draws can actually become real cakes to eat, so she is stronger than the others here.
She noticed the commotion immediately and looked up to see that Gu Tiangang had already chiseled a hole in the rock above her.
"We can go out now??"
"There's a hole in it, hahaha...cough cough cough..."
"Really? But... but what's showing through is fluorescent light, not sunlight at all!!"
With one sentence from this person, hope was shattered once again.
Wang Leran, however, thought otherwise. If the rock wall above could be broken through, perhaps the one above could be broken through as well, and maybe a way out could be found.
"We'll wait for them to come back, and then we'll go up and see what's going on."
Gu Tiangang wiped the mud and dust off his face, unaffected by the others' discouragement, and looked up through the small hole.
Above is what appears to be a bend in the road, with fluorescent fruits growing on the rock face or the ground, and several spider nests of varying sizes scattered around the intersection.
After waiting for a long time and seeing nothing more, Gu Tiangang gradually felt his strength waning and sighed inwardly.
He began to climb down the steps he had carved out to rest, when he heard a series of footsteps, monster roars, and a faint murmur.
Gu Tiangang felt himself gripping the protruding rock again, and tilted his head to look in the direction from which the sound came.
"There are people!! There are so many people! Ahhh!"
Gu Tiangang got so excited that his voice cracked.
Hiss!
The red spider eyes suddenly blocked the small hole. Gu Tiangang stared at the spider eyes at close range, and was so frightened that he fell backward, knocking down Wang Leran, who had climbed up after hearing the news.
The two screamed in agony, feeling their bones cracking.
The others screamed weakly and trembled in fear.
"Shut up! The hole is too small for a spider to crawl in!"
"Aa ...
"Don't eat me! Don't eat me!"
"Die, die, all of you die..."
The spider monster poked at the small hole with its legs, and tiny bits of mud and pebbles rolled down, startling many people who were not comforted by Wang Leran and screamed in terror regardless of the situation.
Jiang Baiyue stopped in her tracks, and then screamed?
She glanced at the spiders that had surrounded her completely and were desperately fighting off the ones that were swooping down from above, the rock walls on either side, and behind her.
While she was switching weapons, she vaguely heard people calling for help.
Sha—!
Jiang Baiyue shook her head, clearing her mind of distractions, and focused on throwing Molotov cocktails to burn the spider monster.
The spider monsters varied in size and swarmed around us in dense groups, making rifles less effective.
The flamethrower had run out of firepower and was nearly 90% damaged, making it unusable. She had to switch to Molotov cocktails.
She hasn't found another exit point or spatial rift yet, so she needs to use her powers sparingly.
The Molotov cocktail collided with the swooping spider monster, and to make matters worse, the explosion was closer to Jiang Baiyue and the others.
The spider monster was burning and emitting black smoke.
Jiang Baiyue was nearly knocked over by the force of the explosion, but fortunately the junior mercenary behind her steadied her. Then she coughed because of the stench and black smoke.
She didn't stop, squinting as she continued throwing Molotov cocktails, this time aiming for the most densely populated areas of spiders.
The mercenaries were already wearing masks, so they were less affected.
However, the burning spider monsters caused the black smoke to become increasingly thick, forcing them to retreat quickly.
However, turning the corner leads to a dead end.
Jiang Baiyue stopped in her tracks. A junior mercenary stepped forward and killed a spider in the passage, while two other mercenaries dealt with several other spider monsters that crawled out of the spider's nest.
There was no way forward; to retreat, there were only spider monsters and black smoke.
Now, retreating, we can't even see the road clearly in the thick black smoke, and some of the smoke has already started to spread to this side.
She should acquire a gas mask, but such equipment is scarce, and almost no one offers it for sale.
Jiang Baiyue heard the scream again, this time even clearer. She looked down at the ground, at the spot where the spider's corpse had disappeared—there was a small hole?!
Jiang Baiyue looked back, took out an iron rod, and poked it into the cave entrance.
"ah--!"
A faint, human scream rang out, followed by a cry of pain.
Jiang Baiyue felt embarrassed for a moment, then thought that she hadn't done it on purpose.
"Who are you?! Do you even know how to get out?!"
The person at the bottom of the cave seemed very weak, his voice was weak and feeble, and after speaking, he seemed to be struggling to breathe as if he had no strength left.
Jiang Baiyue briefly explained the situation and told everyone to leave the cave entrance immediately, as she was going to break through the hole and hide there.
"Immediately, immediately, immediately!"
There were a few more sounds of objects rolling down. Jiang Baiyue carefully peered into the hole and, finding no one there, immediately asked the junior mercenaries next to her to widen the hole so that a person could barely squeeze in.
Once the entrance was dug, a junior mercenary went down to scout ahead. Upon receiving a signal that it was safe, Jiang Baiyue immediately ordered the other mercenaries to follow.
She walked at the back, stretched her hand out a little from the hole, and took out an old, scrapped machine and a rock to weigh down the hole.
Who are you?
Gu Tiangang and Wang Leran barely managed to stand up straight and confront the mercenaries, but the two of them clearly lacked any imposing presence in the face of the strong and muscular mercenaries.
Jiang Baiyue climbed down the rock wall and waited for a while. She was relieved to hear noises from above and that the spider monster did not chase after her.
"Hello, my name is Tangping Salty Fish, from the White Moon Base. We didn't mean any harm by disturbing you this time. We were just chased to the brink of death by spider monsters, so we came down here to take refuge."
Jiang Baiyue pushed aside the mercenaries blocking her way, and looked past the two men who were standing upright to the group of thin, bony figures behind them, who looked like weaklings who posed no threat.
"Don't worry, we'll rest for a while and then leave."
Jiang Baiyue raised her hand to indicate that her side had no ill intentions. She and her men remained on guard while stopping to rest a little distance away from the group.
Gu Tiangang and Wang Leran exchanged a glance, their eyes filled with both hope and worry.
They were all suddenly transported from their homes, companies, or vacation spots to this underground cave. Based only on the mechanical voice broadcast on the first day, they roughly guessed that they had been teleported to a game world by some mysterious force.
Now, more than 30 or 40 days, or even longer, have passed, and I still don't know what the situation is.
The appearance of this group of strangers is an opportunity for them to learn information, but they don't know whether these people are "good" or "bad".
Wang Leran took a step forward, but Gu Tiangang raised his hand to stop her.
Wang Leran understood from Gu Tiangang's eyes that he wanted her to stay, since her talent was very important to their group.
"You, you also have a wife and daughter..."
Xia Wenjing moved her weak body and said softly, "I'll go."
She was all alone, an orphan, and had only managed to survive this long by simply trying to stay alive.
"Hello, my name is Xia Wenjing... I... I want to ask you... do you know... how... to get out of this underground... cave..."
"An underground cave? You..."
