With the heavy radiation-proof door in the way, Lu Sheng and the others couldn't hear anything from inside.
Desperate to find her parents, Xiao Yu pounded on the door even harder, shouting, "Is anyone home? We're here to rescue you!"
After a long while, the heavy door slowly opened, revealing a face streaked with tears.
"Great! We're saved! The police are here!"
The person who opened the door was a young woman in her early twenties. When she saw the police uniforms worn by Jiang Lan and the others, she immediately burst into tears of joy and shouted.
"Keep your voice down, are you afraid the zombies aren't coming fast enough?"
Sister Mei had a fiery temper. She rushed over and covered the girl's mouth, growling impatiently.
"Mmm, mmm!"
The girl nodded quickly, and only then was Sister Mei released her.
After the door was fully opened, Xiao Yu was the first to rush in, anxiously searching for the remaining survivors.
Unfortunately, things didn't go as planned.
There were four survivors in the CT room: an elderly male professor in his sixties, and three young doctors in their twenties, all of whom were doctoral students under the professor's supervision, one male and two females.
Xiao Yu's parents are not here.
"Excuse me, do you know where Xiao Guozheng and Ding Yao went?" Xiao Yu asked anxiously.
"When we were providing support to City H, we split into two teams, and those two went to the other one..."
Finally breathing in the fresh air, the old professor took a deep breath and was about to continue speaking when he was suddenly interrupted by the only male doctoral student.
“We’ve been locked up here for so long that we can’t remember where Director Xiao and his wife went.” The male doctoral student’s eyes behind his glasses shifted slightly.
"The atmosphere here is too oppressive. The human brain will automatically activate the avoidance mechanism. We might remember it soon after we leave the hospital."
Xiao Yu nodded quickly, subconsciously, "We'll take you out right away."
Lu Sheng glanced at the male doctoral student out of the corner of her eye, her icy gaze like a sharp blade, "Can't remember?"
This guy is clearly not someone to be trifled with.
They realized that they had come for Xiao Guozheng and his wife, and were afraid that Lu Sheng and his group would abandon them if they couldn't find them, so they deliberately didn't reveal the whereabouts of Xiao Yu's parents.
"Yes...yes!"
The male doctoral student felt weak in the knees under Lu Sheng's gaze, but he still straightened up and answered.
"Professor Zhu Tao is one of the most famous surgeons in the country, and he is of great significance to the survivors of the apocalypse." Bao Jie noticed that Lu Sheng had murderous intent, so she pulled her aside and whispered to her.
"Since the person you're looking for isn't here, let's leave the hospital first, lest the next wave of zombies catch up."
"Once we leave the hospital, we'll take Professor Zhu Tao and these two female doctors with us. You can do whatever you want with the rest of this."
Lu Sheng glanced indifferently at the male doctoral student, which was taken as tacit approval of Bao Jie's suggestion.
There are too many zombies in the hospital; a group might suddenly appear at any time. Leaving for now is a wise choice.
"Stop dawdling and hurry up, I'm starving."
Sister Mei had already smoked two cigarettes in a row, then threw the cigarette butts on the ground and crushed them with her toe.
The old professor and the two girls hurriedly got up to follow Sister Mei, but were pulled back by the male doctoral student.
"My girlfriend is trapped in the hospital ward, you have to rescue her."
Under the sharp gazes of Sister Mei and Lu Sheng, the male doctoral student swallowed hard and said in a trembling voice.
"no."
Lu Sheng and Sister Mei answered in unison.
"The inpatient ward of the Third Hospital is a special area designated by the government in the early stages of the apocalypse to treat special cases. There are at least several thousand people in the building, including their families."
Sister Mei's strong eyebrows furrowed. "It's already a den of corpses inside. We can't risk going there."
"You are police officers! Shouldn't the police protect the lives and safety of the people?" the male doctoral student shouted excitedly.
Sister Mei rolled her eyes impatiently: "I'm not going. Go ahead and sue me."
"If you don't want to leave, then stay here."
Lu Sheng's indifferent eyes were devoid of any warmth as he wrapped his arms around Tang Dao. "Three counts. Those who want to leave, follow me."
Professor Zhu Tao and the remaining two female students immediately shook off the male doctoral student and jogged after Lu Sheng.
The two groups exchanged glances and turned to leave.
Just as Lu Sheng stepped out of the CT room, he suddenly felt a cold touch on his neck.
She stopped what she was doing and glanced at it with her eyes half-closed.
A sharp ice blade was pressed against her carotid artery.
"You forced me to do this!" the male doctoral student said emotionally, his threat blatant. "The rest of you, go to the inpatient department right now and rescue my girlfriend! Otherwise, I'll kill this woman!"
But the reactions of the people in front of him were completely unexpected.
Instead of panicking, these people, who were his companions, looked at him with pity.
"Dude, do you really think you have too much life left?"
Zhang Xiaojuan shook her head and silently lit a row of candles for the unlucky guy.
Lu Sheng's usually cold eyes suddenly turned icy.
Trying to threaten her?
The next second, Lu Sheng dodged the ice blade to the side, and at the same time, she turned around and instantly flashed in front of the male doctoral student.
The Tang sword was drawn, its cold blade pressed against his neck.
He awakened a second-tier ice element, but he didn't dare go to the inpatient ward to save his girlfriend.
Lu Sheng spoke indifferently, her voice devoid of any emotion, like a cold rope tightly twisting around the male doctoral student's fragile throat.
It made him feel as if he had fallen into an ice cave, and his knees buckled uncontrollably.
"Useless piece of trash, stop pretending to be sentimental. If you had any backbone, you wouldn't have waited until now."
"I..." The male doctoral student's body went limp and he knelt on the ground, his body trembling like a leaf.
Lu Sheng didn't give him a chance to speak. He slightly raised the blade and cut his throat.
This kind of wicked and useless person is a waste of food if kept in the base; it's better to feed him to the zombies as soon as possible.
After overcoming the obstacles, Lu Sheng and the others quickly retreated along the original route with Professor Zhu Tao and the two girls, finally leaving the hospital safely.
"Professor Zhu, please tell me the whereabouts of Xiao Guozheng and his wife."
As Xiao Yu walked out of the Third Hospital, her eyes reddened, and her voice trembled with a hint of tears.
Professor Zhu, still shaken, patted his chest before slowly replying, "After arriving in H City, we split into two teams. The other two went to support the Armed Police Hospital, and we've been separated for over a month now."
"The Armed Police Hospital? Isn't that near our base?" Jiang Lan exclaimed in surprise.
“That’s perfect. You can come back to the base with us first, rest a bit, and then we’ll head to the Armed Police Hospital tomorrow,” Bao Jie suggested.
Lu Sheng and the others exchanged glances.
They should have gained something from the trip, and now that they have some information, there's no reason for them not to follow up.
"What's the name of your base? I want to hear if it's cool or not." Zhang Xiaojuan moved closer to Sister Mei and offered her a cigarette.
"K3 base."
Upon hearing this, Lu Sheng suddenly raised an eyebrow.
