The bespectacled young man was panting heavily, and hurriedly sped up his work. He turned around and said to Lu Sheng and the others, "Boss, there are a lot of people here. If you don't have anything else to do, you can go back to the hotel first."
"We can lend a hand, it's our expertise." Zhang Xiaojuan and Xiao Yu, who couldn't help with the delivery, came over and made a clay dragon to help the bespectacled young man reinforce the wall.
Having dealt with K3 so many times, they had long since become friends. Now, seeing K3 about to face the onslaught of the zombie horde, Zhang Xiaojuan felt it was inappropriate to stand idly by.
As the group used their special abilities to help add bricks and tiles, a noisy commotion suddenly came from behind them.
A group of about several dozen people, including their families, rushed to the base gate and had a heated argument with the guards.
"All entrances and exits are temporarily closed. You can go back now," the staff member on duty said, trying to control his emotions.
"You've closed all the entrances and exits, are you trying to make everyone die with this base?"
A middle-aged woman, around forty years old, jumped out from the group with a loud shout, gesturing wildly with her short, stubby fingers in front of the guard's face as she yelled.
"That's right, open the door and let us out! Whoever wants to stay can stay. We won't just sit here and wait to die!"
"You soldiers are all bad people! You hoard resources and don't share them with everyone, and now you want us to die with you because you can't handle the zombie horde!"
Incited by the woman's emotions, the group suddenly became noisy, with everyone pointing the finger at the management of the K3 base.
"Damn it, what do you mean by hogging resources without giving any? The base has so many mouths to feed, and resources are allocated according to population and labor contribution."
"If we just distributed the resources arbitrarily according to their whims, the entire base would be starving by now!"
The bespectacled guy cursed under his breath, feeling wronged.
Compared to other large bases, K3 base has the most open and transparent distribution system. However, some people within the base are still dissatisfied, believing that since it is a military base, they should be provided with food in a communal manner, and that they should receive food even if they do not work.
The commotion quickly attracted a larger crowd, forcing the ongoing work to temporarily halt the reinforcement of the wall.
Many onlookers were also influenced by the arguments and began to question the decision-making process at the K3 base.
"What happened?"
A conflict was imminent. Li Sheng emerged from the command room with a stern face and gave everyone a stern look.
The bespectacled young man saluted ramrod straight. "Someone is deliberately spreading rumors in the base to incite people to flee."
"How did the news get out?" A hint of anger appeared on Li Sheng's sharply defined face.
Lu Sheng and his group listened for a while before they understood that K3's senior management had chosen to block the news in order to avoid a serious incident caused by a panicked exodus.
The original plan was to issue an announcement after dealing with the zombie horde, but someone leaked the information, and now the entire K3 base is in a state of panic, with people everywhere packing their bags and preparing to abandon the city and flee.
However, the city is about to be besieged by zombies, and if a small, scattered team goes out of the city and runs into the zombie horde's path, it's like lambs to the slaughter.
Seeing that more and more people were gathering at the entrance of the base, Li Sheng decisively ordered everyone to guard the gate firmly and not allow any base member to leave.
"Please rest assured, we will do our best to protect everyone's safety!" Li Sheng stood on a high place, holding a megaphone and loudly assured the crowd.
But the onlookers weren't having any of it and immediately retorted, "You can't even protect your own safety. People go missing every day while on missions. What makes you think we should trust you?"
One sentence from him made Li Sheng's face turn ugly, but he felt even more disheartened.
Compared to other large bases, K3 is more like a large internment camp, taking in a large number of refugees whose superpower levels are not high enough.
Even though they had given their all, they were still misunderstood and questioned by these people, and even their sacrifice became a stain on their reputation.
"Even if we fight to the last man, we will hold our ground. Please give us time."
After a few seconds of silence, Li Sheng made a resolute promise.
After making a brief statement, Li Sheng handed over the task of maintaining order to his subordinates and strode towards Lu Sheng and his group.
After a brief self-introduction, Li Sheng got straight to the point, "Ms. Lu, I would like to ask you for help in defending the K3 base."
Although he had never met Lu Sheng, Li Sheng had heard about her from Su Zheng, Ma Dongmei, and others, so he was not unfamiliar with her.
K3 had to ask for favors for its own internal matters. Although Li Sheng was embarrassed, he still had to bite the bullet and ask.
He didn't know if Lu Sheng and the others could help, but the threat of this zombie horde was too great, and he had to try to gather all the forces he could join forces with.
The tens of thousands of people at the K3 base cannot afford this defeat.
Seeing his sincere attitude, Lu Sheng and the others exchanged glances and turned their gazes to Lu Sheng in unison.
“We know nothing about this zombie horde. Do you have a solid plan to defend the city?” Zhang Xiaojuan asked with some skepticism.
"No." Li Sheng forced a bitter smile. "But right now, I must unite all the forces within the K3 base into one force in order to have any hope of winning this round."
Lu Sheng pursed her lips, glancing out of the corner of her eye at the excited crowd at the entrance.
The person who leaked the information is likely connected to the zombie embryo, and their goal is to create chaos at the K3 base so they can profit from it.
"Brother, this is a horde of tens of thousands of zombies, aren't you trusting us too much...?"
Zhang Xiaojuan awkwardly poured cold water on Li Sheng's enthusiasm.
Even if Sister Lu is incredibly powerful, she's still only one person, and she'd feel the burden facing a zombie horde of this size!
