The flash of white light from the explosion shot straight into the sky, tearing a sharp gash through the thick, silent night.
In the fleeting flash of light, countless bits of rotten flesh and blood splattered onto the glass of Lu Sheng and the others.
Within the flashing headlights, it looked as if a red rainstorm was raging outside the car, and nothing within a ten-meter radius was spared.
Zhang Xin, perched atop Zhang Xiaojuan's head, gripped her receding hairline tightly. "This kid's a demolition expert, and his level isn't low either."
"Can't these people give us some information before they make their next move? Ugh..." The bloody scene made Zhang Xiaojuan's face turn pale, and she ate two mints in a row.
As the group was talking, a figure jumped out of Meng Botang's military vehicle. Upon closer inspection, it was clear that it was the same pink-haired young man from before.
After getting out of the car, the pink-haired young man immediately went to the window of Lu Sheng and the others' car, gestured for them to clean up, and then summoned a torrential stream of water to wash the military vehicle.
Everyone present was a seasoned zombie-clearing expert, and this kind of small scene was nothing to them, but Meng Botang's willingness to take the initiative and arrange for people to clean up the scene made him very likable.
"Get off the bus, we need to go inside."
After the pink-haired young man washed all the cars, Su Zheng sent a message via walkie-talkie.
Although most of the scattered human tissue and blood foam had been washed away, Lu Sheng and the others still felt their eyes burning from the strong stench of corpses in the air as soon as they got out of the car.
At the entrance to the base's air hull, the marble steps were slightly yellowed from being soaked in blood, and some residual bloodstains could be faintly seen in the cracks.
Half of the lighting equipment in front of the makeshift hospital's main entrance was broken, leaving only two lonely, dim streetlights providing illumination. Combined with the chaotic scene, it created an indescribably eerie and desolate atmosphere.
Meng Botang and Su Zheng sent people ahead to illuminate the way with high-wattage flashlights and headlamps, and the group filed in, forming a tight line.
Zhao Xiaoyan, who had just been rescued by Su Zheng, had cut her long hair short at some point. She glanced around the group a few times before silently following Lu Sheng and the others.
Meng Baitang and Su Zheng's group were all in uniform today, making her feel out of place. After thinking it over, she decided it was better to stay with Lu Sheng and the others, who were more casual.
To facilitate management, the Eastern Alliance renovated the entire residential area by connecting several large modular units.
The entire residential area is flat and open, with no intricate details; it's a simple single-level structure with three floors in total.
After entering the room, the group encountered a few small groups of newly infected zombies, most of which were quickly dealt with by Meng Botang's men.
While helping to deal with the scattered zombies, Su Zheng looked doubtful. "The situation here is not quite what you described. There are only a few of them. Surely it's not enough to trap tens of thousands of people?"
The highest level of the newly infected zombies they have encountered so far is only level four or five. With the strength of a large base like the Eastern Alliance, they can handle it in no time, and there is no need to resort to asking for help.
"Sister, what exactly happened? Where is the others?" Zhang Xiaojuan, with her naturally outgoing nature, casually struck up a conversation with Zhao Xiaoyan.
Zhao Xiaoyan frowned, her whole body tense. "I don't know. My scumbag and I just arrived in the Eastern Alliance three days ago. We hadn't even finished checking in when the zombie horde broke out here."
The only local had no clues, so the group had no choice but to resign themselves to continuing on their way.
The space inside the makeshift hospital was very large, and it took them about ten minutes to reach the center.
Because of the unstable voltage, the overhead lights flickered on and off, and the smell of blood and decay in the air grew stronger.
Under the influence of the atmosphere, the group couldn't help but feel a little uneasy.
Meng Baitang subconsciously stopped and was arranging for people to check the surroundings when a slight crawling sound quietly rang out.
Zhuangzhuang's fur stood on end, a look of horror flashing in his bright eyes. "Watch out!"
Lu Sheng instinctively looked up and saw a huge head hanging upside down on the roof.
A gaping maw tore open to the earlobe, revealing a silent, eerie smile.
"Get out of the way!" Lu Sheng shouted, pushing Su Zheng and Meng Baitang aside.
The next second, that gaping maw swooped down and took a bite.
The monster's attacks were too fast. Although Meng Botang, Su Zheng, and the others adjusted their movements to avoid it immediately, some team members who were a little slower still fell into the attack range.
Just as that gaping, drooling maw was about to bite the unfortunate man directly below, a cloud of yellow smoke suddenly rose into the air.
At the same time, a pungent stench instantly filled the air, causing the group to cough repeatedly.
This indiscriminate stench attack affected not only Lu Sheng and the others, but also the monster on the ceiling.
The gaping maw froze for a second before letting out a dry, hoarse roar.
Under the watchful eyes of everyone, the monster's swollen and distorted face revealed a disgusting expression.
Taking advantage of the monster's momentary distraction, Xu Yi quickly drew his gun and fired accurately at the monster's enormous eyeball.
puff.
A dull thud as a bullet pierced flesh.
A burst of blood mist instantly shot from the monster's swollen eye sockets.
The ugly, large head immediately howled in pain, and Meng Botang and Su Zheng quickly pulled the team members within the attack range back.
Xu Yi gave the monster no chance to breathe, firing several shots at the enormous thing on the ceiling.
Sparks flew everywhere, and the muffled thuds of bullets echoed inside the makeshift hospital.
As foul-smelling blood spurted out, the monster howled a few times and quickly fled, dragging its battered body away.
