Chapter 256 Mutant Monsters

Just as they breathed a sigh of relief, the scene before them sent chills down their spines.

The two headless zombies were still alive; their headless torsos writhed and twitched wildly on the floor like worms, and their swollen and deformed limbs braced themselves against the floor in a bizarre arc.

The severed head was kicked into a corner by Lu Sheng, emitting a muffled roar.

Then, to everyone's horror, the headless torso seemed to have a navigation system installed, quickly aiming at the head and lunging forward eagerly.

"This thing... can't be killed?" Zhao Xiaoyan frowned as she looked at Lu Sheng, still shocked.

Meng Botang's face was pale, and a fine layer of sweat beaded on his forehead. "When the Eastern Alliance asked for help over the radio before, they said that a new breed of zombies had appeared in the base. Even if the head and body were separated, they would not die immediately. The head and most of the torso must be completely destroyed to eliminate these deformed monsters."

Panic gripped the troops in the Western Theater Command.

The horde of zombies surging up behind them was almost within reach. Not far away, two deformed zombies had already successfully picked up their own heads and were gesturing with their hands to put them on their necks.

After gesturing a couple of times, the two deformed zombies suddenly roared in fury, then tucked their heads under their armpits and quickly darted behind the group.

Everyone was stunned by this sudden turn of events; no one had expected that these two monsters would still be able to put up a fight.

The horde of zombies closed in from behind, their shriveled, grayish-white eyes staring intently at the group, seemingly enjoying their prey's last struggle.

Now they are being attacked from both sides, and the slightest mistake could lead to their complete annihilation.

Seeing the horde of zombies about to surge up, Xu Yi nimbly leaped up and grabbed the pipe on the wall, then used the momentum to jump onto the container next to him.

Amidst the panic, Xu Yi's calm and collected voice rang out, "Take care of yourselves."

At the same time, he raised his hand and hoisted a small cannon barrel onto his shoulder, half-closing his eyes as he aimed the muzzle at the dense, surging horde of corpses.

boom!

As Xu Yi tensed his arm, a streak of fire fell in a parabolic arc into the dense horde of corpses.

The next second, a dazzling display of fireworks erupted amidst the restless horde of zombies.

Fragments of skin tissue and rotting, bursting internal organs exploded like a shower of flowers.

As the nauseating rotting flesh was about to fall on them, Sun Tiantian immediately used her superpower. A thick, solid ice wall instantly rose from the ground to block everyone's way. At the same time, Zhang Xiaojuan also manipulated the earthen wall to form a solid dome above everyone's heads.

Inside the vast makeshift hospital, the nauseating stench of burning flesh grew stronger and stronger, and the stench in the air was almost suffocating.

The zombie horde was suppressed by Xu Yi's strong firepower and had no choice but to retreat step by step, only able to let out a series of unwilling roars.

From a safe corner, everyone watched as Xu Yi stood atop a tall container, calmly firing at the horde of zombies.

His slender figure was taut, like a fully drawn bow; every movement was extremely concise, without a single superfluous element.

"How could this be..." The pink-haired young man stared in surprise at the slender cannon barrel on Xu Yi's shoulder. "Firearms shouldn't be very effective against these mutated zombies..."

“Even the captain’s sixth-tier explosives skill isn’t very confident in dealing with so many zombies.” Pink-haired guy suddenly turned his gaze to Meng Botang with suspicion. “Captain, you’re not lying to me, are you? You’re saying that explosives can’t handle mutated zombies just because you can’t do it yourself.”

"Captain, shame is the mother of courage. Even if you're not good enough, we won't laugh at you. You should learn from others."

"Yes, Captain, lying is not a good habit."

Meng Botang: "..."

I urgently need to shut these foul mouths up.

“You can’t say that. Mr. Xu is a near-perfect man. Even I, at my peak, am a bit inferior to him.” Zhang Xiaojuan, sweating profusely, vigorously kneaded children’s modeling clay, expanding her clay figure team as she proudly tossed her hair. “There’s no need to feel inferior. After all, you’re not the only one who can’t compare to Mr. Xu.”

Seeing that the zombie horde was gradually losing ground, the two deformed zombies suddenly made a move.

Lu Sheng's brow suddenly furrowed, and he subconsciously turned his head to look at the two deformed beasts glaring menacingly beside him.

Suddenly, the two gray-white heads tucked under the armpits turned their eyes and revealed an extremely eerie smile.

The next second, one of the deformed creatures actually brought its head to the mouth of the other head.

Huff!

With its gaping maw, it bit down hard and gnawed off half of the head in one bite.

After tearing off its companion's face, the deformed beast chewed with great satisfaction, then excitedly waved its two twisted and deformed arms.

Surprisingly, several lines of blood, like living nematodes, rapidly emerged and wriggled from the neat cut on the mutated beast's neck.

Soon the wound was covered with a sticky red liquid.

A few seconds later, a huge lump appeared at the cut, with blood and bulging veins visible inside.

Then, in an unexpected turn of events, a head the size of a fist sprouted from the previously neatly cut surface.

Zhang Xiaojuan stared dumbfounded at the small head on the enormous body in the distance. "Holy crap... like cures like, you eat what you need??"

“Then let’s cut it again.” Lu Sheng’s eyes sharpened. He stepped on Zhang Xiaojuan’s little mud figure and scrambled up the earthen wall. He then leaped into the air and quickly grabbed the heating pipe next to him.

Then, with a powerful swing of her legs, she leaped forward and lunged at the deformed monster in front of her.

The monster was still basking in the joy of its new head, its massive body stumbling as it charged toward the horde of corpses before it.
