Chapter 264 Outbound Mission

Fang Rongrong's boyfriend is named Liu Peng. His family is said to have a very powerful background; he is the director of the student affairs office at Beijing University. He's in his thirties, always dressed in a slicked-back style, and he's known for his bureaucratic manner and making things difficult for students, who generally dislike him.

Liu Peng put a lot of effort into pursuing Fang Rongrong, showering her with care, flowers, and gifts every day. He persisted for more than half a year before finally winning over Fang Rongrong, this aloof and beautiful woman who had come to Beijing to pursue her dreams.

Lu Sheng and her friends were disgusted by Liu Peng's several encounters, so they naturally didn't give him a friendly look when they met again.

This scumbag obviously recognized Lu Sheng and the others at a glance. His surprised expression vanished in an instant, and he pretended not to know them, avoiding them.

"From now on, everyone's actions must be under my full command. You can raise any objections, but I may not accept them." Liu Peng gave everyone a rude awakening as soon as he entered the room.

He was accompanied by two young and beautiful female assistants, who were striking seductive poses on either side of him.

Everyone present was clearly used to Liu Peng's pretentious manner, and most of them remained silent, though their expressions showed some displeasure.

"My habit is to be efficient in everything; I don't put off until the next day what can be done on the same day."

Liu Peng was satisfied with the silence of the crowd. After looking around, he declared loudly, "From now on, no one is allowed to act on their own. Any action must be reported to me first."

One of the men in the core area scoffed dismissively, "What? Even if you die, we'll follow you down to keep vigil?"

The speaker was a spirited short-haired girl with beautiful almond-shaped eyes who looked Liu Peng up and down, a mocking smile playing on her lips.

The others burst into laughter, joining the girl in teasing Liu Peng, "That's right, you never know what might happen on a mission. We can't expect you to die and still be waiting for you to come back to life, can we?"

Liu Peng blushed with embarrassment and glared fiercely at the girl. "Sun Lu, don't think you can act recklessly just because you've made some contributions to the base. I'm the one in charge of this mission, and from now on you must follow my orders!"

"Let's talk about it when you can survive until the mission is over," Sun Lu said with a grin, glancing at Liu Peng.

Liu Peng turned his face away angrily, sat down on the side with a stern expression, and instructed his two assistants to introduce everyone to each other according to the list.

Of the 100 people participating in this mission, 40 were pre-selected members of the Falcon Squad, giving them an absolute numerical advantage within the entire mission group.

Zhang Xin, nicknamed "Little Mouse," used his X-ray vision ability to scan the area. Du Ze, the captain of the Falcon Squad, possessed a sixth-tier fire-type ability, and his temper was as fiery as his power. Most of the remaining members of the team were between sixth and seventh tiers, and their strength was not to be underestimated.

The team that Sun Lu just spoke to was another team dispatched from the core area. It consisted of about ten people, all young girls, with no men. Sun Lu possessed a rare venom-based ability, and almost all the team members were at the sixth rank.

The teams in the outer area were quite diverse, mostly consisting of small groups of two or three, all of whom were willing to risk their lives for contribution points. Lu Sheng and her group were the largest of the outer teams.

The single mother is named Xu Jing. She is a sonic ability user and the only ability user who fights alone.

After everyone gave brief self-introductions, Liu Peng's assistant handed out two thin sheets of paper to each person, which were a brief introduction to the mission.

"The base needs some related equipment and confidential documents to expand vaccine production, but these things are currently in the heavily contaminated Qingsha base. Our mission this time is to go to the Qingshan base to get the equipment and, incidentally, rescue the relevant medical experts at the base."

No sooner had she finished speaking than a question came from the corner: "Wasn't Qingshan Base swallowed up by the zombie horde ten days ago? Some survivors escaped to our base."

Liu Peng glared unhappily at the young man speaking in the corner. "The survivors said that Dr. Lin Wanshan of Qingshan Base has made new progress on the zombie virus. When the zombie horde arrived, Qingshan Base mobilized all its resources to send Dr. Lin's research team to the safe house within the base."

"The food in the safe house will probably only last for about a month. We are very pressed for time and must rescue Dr. Lin and the research team before the food runs out."

Falcon Squad leader Du Ze frowned. "According to our information, after the Qingshan Base was swallowed by the zombie horde, a plant infestation broke out. Now the area is surrounded by dense forest and miasma. Nobody knows what the situation is like inside."

Compared to extreme cold followed by extreme heat and other types of natural disasters, eternal night is the most hostile natural disaster mode to humanity.

It's not just because living in darkness for a long time makes them more irritable and explosive, but also because dangerous species that normally keep their claws hidden in the sunlight will wantonly slaughter humans in the boundless darkness.

In particular, the dense forests and miasma formed by mutated plants are extremely dangerous and difficult to guard against.

The mutated plants that emerged after the Red Moon are even more lethal and possess a degree of camouflage. In low-light conditions, superhumans can easily become nutrients for these mutated plants if they are not careful.

In the eternal night, the miasma is so dense that its exact extent cannot be seen. The only way to detect it is through detectors and human testing. If there is even the slightest deviation, the entire team will be wiped out.

"Isn't what you're saying obvious? If there were no danger, would the base offer a bounty of 1,000 contribution points?" Liu Peng scoffed.

"You have one minute to think it over. Those who want to go can stay, and those who have concerns can leave immediately. Don't wait until you get there to back out."

The crowd exchanged bewildered glances. After a brief silence, someone suddenly roared, "I'll fucking risk it all! Rather than living a miserable life in the slums, I'd rather risk my life for a chance at riches!"
