"There's nothing we can do. The outside world is all desert now, and the range of human activity is getting smaller and smaller. We may be the only oasis within a few thousand kilometers." Su Zheng clasped his hands together, his expression serious.
“We used to receive distress signals every day, but now we receive them less frequently.”
No one spoke at the conference table, and the room fell into silence.
The lack of distress signals indicates that there are fewer and fewer bases still inhabited.
Since the desertification outside the city has become increasingly severe, Lu Sheng and his group haven't left the safe zone for a long time. Although they don't know what the environment in the more distant outside world has become, they can imagine that it must be a desolate wasteland.
"I wonder what kind of monsters might be born in the desert," Zhang Xiaojuan exclaimed.
Compared to the mysterious desert, the news that Zhao Mujia brought next was even more unsettling.
He took a bag from behind him and threw it on the table. "The M country base sent people yesterday and brought these as a greeting gift."
When the group opened the bag, they found about a dozen small plastic bottles with foreign language labels, each carefully wrapped in a special protective film.
Ma Dongmei picked up a document and studied it intently for a long time before finally shrug and giving up. "No way, my CET-4 score is fake. I don't recognize a single word on it."
"Sister Dongmei, I never thought someone with thick eyebrows and big eyes like you would do something like buying report cards!" Zhang Xiaojuan joked, originally wanting to show off, but then reluctantly put it down, "No way, I don't know anyone like that."
Lu Sheng, Sun Tiantian, Xiao Yu, Zhao Mujia, and other college students had essentially left their brains at the school. They knew their own limitations, so they never intended to try it in the first place.
Everyone looked at Xu Yi with expectant eyes.
Zhang Xiaojuan fawned over Xu Yi, sending two little clay figures to massage his shoulders and legs. "Teacher Xu, you're the only one in our village who's good at studying. You're the hope of the whole village!"
Xu Yi was amused by him, reached out and took the bottle and glanced at it, "It's a new type of drug made by adding toluenethiazide to fentanyl, also known as zombie drug."
"Huh? What and what?" Zhang Xiaojuan didn't hear clearly, so she simply moved closer to Xu Yi.
"Toluenethiazide is generally used as a veterinary sedative, while fentanyl is a less addictive analgesic than morphine and heroin. Two years before the apocalypse, foreign drug dealers discovered that mixing these two drugs could produce a stronger high, and at a lower cost."
"This drug was already widely popular abroad before the apocalypse. People who had overdosed on the drug and lost consciousness were often seen wandering the streets, so it was also called zombie drug."
The children listened with great interest, but Ma Dongmei slammed her hand on the table in anger, "What are these people up to? Using this as a greeting gift, are they afraid we won't die fast enough?"
"This stuff is probably in high demand outside, and the price is good," Zhao Mujia explained.
"To be honest, besides this thing, they don't seem to have anything else..." Zhang Xiaojuan rubbed her chin thoughtfully. "M country is a major agricultural and livestock country, and its geographical location is all plains. After these rounds of natural disasters, they don't even have any shelter. They should be running out of ammunition and food soon."
"You shouldn't use something like this to harm people!" Han Rui angrily raised her small fist.
Lu Sheng listened calmly to their discussion and then asked Zhao Mujia in a composed manner, "What did they say after giving us a gift?"
"Besides the US, China and Russia have also recently sent people to contact us about forming an alliance."
"They call it an alliance, but actually they just want to find an opportunity to infiltrate our city."
Zhao Mujia looked bewildered. "Moreover, the Russian side also brought news that the United States may still have an underwater base, and even a hidden nuclear missile launch site."
"Sister Lu, how do we deal with these people?"
Without a second thought, Lu Sheng bluntly told them, "Make them all get out of here."
"What kind of time is this for them to be putting on airs and showing off their power?"
Let alone the fact that they probably don't have the capability to launch nuclear missiles right now, even if they did, these extremely selfish white people wouldn't be willing to use a single nuclear missile to bring the world to nuclear peace.
Humans can only live on this tiny patch of land now. If a mushroom cloud were to fall, it would basically trigger the "Wandering Earth" project.
White people never do anything that results in a loss. Right now, they themselves need to rely on Lu Sheng's safe zone to survive, so how could they possibly do such a thing?
"So I'll decline all future alliance proposals?"
"Tell them to get out of here right now, take a taxi and get out."
After the morning meeting, the only news that made everyone feel slightly happier was that Wu Hainan would soon be bringing his team to join Lu Sheng.
In the current situation, the more of our own people the better.
Lu Sheng and the others had nothing else to do, so they all rushed to the outer edge of the safe zone to prepare to welcome Wu Hainan.
After waiting for a short while, we saw an SUV approaching at a steady speed from afar.
"Lu Sheng!"
Wu Hainan, tanned like a smooth, dark-skinned hard-boiled egg, leaned out of the car window and waved to Lu Sheng and the others.
Zhang Xiaojuan waved enthusiastically in response, then suddenly squinted at the approaching car in the distance. "Wait a minute, do you see something over there?"
"What are you making such a fuss about?" Ma Dongmei and the others followed Zhang Xiaojuan's gaze and quickly became serious.
Right behind Wu Hainan and his group's car, in the vast sea of sand, a huge sand dune was rapidly approaching the rear of the vehicle.
The entire sand dune was about the size of a truck and moved very fast, quickly catching up with Wu Hainan's car.
Zhao Mujia stared intently at the rapidly approaching sand dune, his eyes slightly narrowed. "Holy crap, is it quicksand?"
