Chapter 47 Drained of Bodily Fluids

The snow fell heavier and heavier. The little girl had only been lying down for a few seconds when she was covered in snow. She lay on the snow, hugging her shoulders and shivering.

They knew Lu Sheng was a ruthless character who would kill without looking at the almanac, but they were just too hungry.

During the hottest times, they could still get some scraps of food from the boys in the building, but now it's freezing cold and people can't even go outside. Those guys can't even feed themselves, so where would they get any extra food to give them?

Waiting around in the dorm is pointless; you'll either starve or freeze to death, so you might as well take a chance.

Zhang Qi held up her phone shakily, glancing at Lu Sheng's cold and indifferent face out of the corner of her eye.

She kept the video recording on purely to bolster her courage. She figured that even if Lu Sheng was arrogant, he wouldn't dare to run someone over and kill them in broad daylight.

"Senior Lu, saving a life is more meritorious than building a seven-story pagoda. You can't just stand by and watch us starve to death."

Seeing that Lu Sheng didn't speak, Zhang Qi suddenly felt more confident. He called the remaining people to join hands and surround the front of Lu Sheng's car.

"I won't stop you from dying, anyway, people with your kind of pig brains wouldn't survive more than three episodes in the apocalypse."

Lu Sheng sneered and floored the accelerator.

With the engine at full power, the dirty snow kicked up by the wheels splashed all over Zhang Qi and the others.

Seeing that Lu Sheng was really going to charge straight at them, Zhang Qi and the others hurriedly scrambled to the side. Those lying on the ground even rolled twice before finally stopping by the edge of the flower bed.

He wanted to get up and curse, but Lu Sheng's raptor had already gone more than a hundred meters away, and even a dog couldn't catch up with it.

"Let's try our luck at the department store first? See if they have any rice that's subject to purchase restrictions today."

Lu Sheng made the suggestion in a WeChat voice chat group of four.

Buying rice was just an excuse; the real reason was that many small shops on the commercial street around the mall were run by husband-and-wife teams, and the owners usually lived in their shops.

With heavy snow blocking the roads, other large commercial complexes are unlikely to have any employees coming to work, so only small shops like these can stay open.

Two months after the apocalypse began in her previous life, she could still buy some things at high prices from these small family-run shops. Now that paper money is becoming increasingly worthless, she plans to use the gold chain she got from those useless people at the logistics park to exchange for some supplies.

"Not many people will come out in this heavy snow, so maybe we can find some bargains."

Sun Tiantian and Xiao Yu responded quickly.

"Can."

Xu Yi had no objections.

More and more cars are stuck on the road, and a group of people have emerged who specialize in robbing the poor people trapped in their cars.

If there were any living people, they would smash the car windows and steal their belongings; if someone in the car died, they would dump the body on the road to feed the dogs; and they would dismantle the car into pieces and sell the engine for money.

The entire city was gripped by fear, and crime was rampant in every corner.

It took the three cars half an hour to get there. The road was quiet here.

The terrain is low-lying and the snow is thicker, so the beat-up Jetta of the car-stealing team couldn't get through.

The mall entrance was deserted; the limited-edition rice was unavailable today; and the streets were empty, without a soul in sight.

Having finally managed to get out, the four of them didn't give up. They trudged through the knee-deep snow and headed towards the side street.

The sky was foggy, and the entire area was covered by heavy snow, with visibility reduced to only about one meter. Most of the shops along the road were closed.

The whole street was eerily quiet; the only sound was the crunching of boots on the snow.

Splash!

Suddenly, a metallic clanging sound echoed through the heavy snow.

"Are any shops open yet?"

Sun Tiantian's cheeks were red from the cold as she rubbed her hands together and looked around.

"Let's go take a look." Lu Sheng shook the snow off his shoulders and followed the direction of the sound.

Splash. Splash.

Two more sounds rang out in quick succession, particularly jarring in the silence.

This time, Lu Sheng accurately judged the direction, which was about several dozen meters ahead on the right.

Not far away hangs a dirty LED sign; it's a small shop that also sells hardware and photocopying services. In the semi-basement, a roller shutter door is locked, and a small window, only a few dozen centimeters wide, is located in the wall next to it.

The room was dark, with the lights off, so it was impossible to see anything inside.

Is anyone outside?

Just as Lu Sheng and the others were about to leave, a soft, sweet voice suddenly came from behind the roller shutter.

The four exchanged a glance.

Judging from the voice, it was clearly a little girl; the slow tone and slightly rising intonation suggested she was probably a middle or high school student.

"There's someone outside, isn't there?" A soft female voice behind the door sounded like she was about to cry. "I've been trapped here for two days, with nothing to eat and nothing to drink."

"Little sister, how did you get trapped here?" Sun Tiantian, with a soft heart, squatted down next to the roller shutter and asked gently, "Where are your family members?"

Intermittent sobs came from behind the door. "This hardware store is my home. My parents and I live here. Yesterday, I went to the back warehouse to check the goods and haven't come back yet."

The little girl's voice grew louder and louder as she spoke, "But they haven't come back for two days, and there's no food or water in the shop. I'm so thirsty and hungry..."

Sun Tiantian and Xiao Yu looked at Lu Sheng with reluctance on their faces.

Lu Sheng shook his head and made a "no" gesture with a serious expression.

"It's been two days. No parent would leave a little girl alone at home. She's probably not alive anymore. There are too many things like this in the apocalypse. We can't control it."

Sun Tiantian gritted her teeth and was about to get up when suddenly there was a loud knocking sound coming from the small window on the wall.

The window was opened with a 20-centimeter square vent, revealing a fair and tender little face.

She was indeed a girl of about fifteen or sixteen, with two rows of small pearls on her chubby face, and her beautiful big eyes were swollen like walnuts.
