Chapter 41 Shrimp Fishing

The method of building mud walls was led by the little carpenter. She used to go to the renovation team with her grandfather and saw other people building mud walls, which were usually used as firewood rooms. Mud walls are more common in the north, but less common in the south like Gongzhou. When the weather is humid, they are not so strong.

But now with the extremely high temperature and not a drop of rain, there is no problem of excessive humidity.

To build a wall, you first need to make a mold for the bricks, put the yellow mud with water and plant stems into the mold, and compact it to form it. Then you can use these formed bricks to build up one by one. They build the wall at night and dry it in the sun during the day.

With four people working, they were pretty fast. They had almost finished the work in three days. Today they only had one last side to finish, which would only take an hour or two.

It's a good time to repair the wall before daybreak.

A few people went upstairs with tools, and Kuang Qianli said tiredly: "After I finish repairing this wall, I will rest and sleep for three days and three nights."

Wang Juanfeng echoed: "Me too."

Qiao Xuejun smiled and said nothing.

It would be nice to be able to rest, but now we are busy and busy, and only by spending all our time working can we ensure our safety in the future.

It took four people more than an hour to fill the last gap in the wall.

Kuang Qianli was covered in dust and his hands were covered in a thick layer of yellow mud: "Take a rest, take a rest."

He looked at the last repaired wall and said, "It will be dry in the sun soon and we won't have any more trouble."

He looked at the deep trench they had dug behind him and said, "We can get some grass to cover the trench. This way, even if someone climbs up the wall and jumps down and falls into the trap, they will be half crippled if not killed."

That’s true. The earth wall is two meters high and the trench is more than one meter high, which adds up to three or four meters.

Even if you don't die from the fall, you will lose your combat effectiveness.

Qiao Xuejun patted the yellow mud on his hands and said, "You guys go and have a rest. I want to go to the mountain to get some shrimps."

Kuang Qianli immediately turned to look at her, incredulous: "Now?"

Qiao Xuejun nodded and looked at the sky: "I might be out all day and come back in the evening."

The cave that Kuang Qianli mentioned before could be used for fishing and catching shrimps, but from what Kuang Qianli described, it might take a whole day to catch any fish. She certainly couldn't go home before the sun rose, so she would probably have to stay in the cave until the sun went down.

"No, aren't you tired?"

Kuang Qianli himself is an outdoor cycling blogger, and is considered to be very hardworking, but he was really exhausted after a few days. The hard work is one thing, and the mental pressure is another.

Now I really just want to rest.

Qiao Xuejun asked directly: "Is the fishing rod I brought from Dr. Wang's house usable? I took it to go fishing."

When we moved things from Dr. Wang's house, there was also a fishing rod that was neither too long nor too short.

Kuang Qianli nodded: "Her long and short poles were left by her father. They have not been used for a long time, so I repaired them. It is no problem to catch shrimps. It can also catch some small fish."

Qiao Xuejun went to the underground shelter to pick up the fishing rod, and Kuang Qianli found her a small plastic bucket and a bag of feed.

"Hang this on the hook. That's how I caught it last time. But, do you know how to fish? How about I go with you?" Kuang Qianli asked her.

Qiao Xuejun shook her head: "Is this feed yours?"

After all, it was said that this was Wang Juanfeng’s father’s fishing rod and it had not been used for a long time, so there should be no feed in it.

Kuang Qianli took a look at the feed and said, "I made it with stilt chickens. They are the stilt chickens that you stole from your traps in the mountains, their hearts, livers, and so on."

Qiao Xuejun nodded. Chicken liver, pork liver and the like are usually used to catch shrimps.

Wang Juanfeng followed behind Qiao Xuejun and said, "I'll go with you. I know the way well."

Kuang Qianli immediately said, "Then I'll go too."

Qiao Xuejun glanced at the two of them, and after a while she was a little speechless and said, "Just leave the little carpenter alone to look after the house?"

That definitely won't work. Times are different now. If there were only ordinary residents in this town, the carpenter could handle it. But now with the danger of rebels, she can't handle it alone.

Wang Juanfeng immediately said, "God Kuang, you stay here. Boss Qiao and I will go there. My dad and I went there to fish for shrimp when we were kids. It's no problem."

After making the arrangements, Qiao Xuejun and Wang Juanfeng took their things and went out, while the carpenter and Kuang Qianli stayed at home.

The sun had not yet risen, but the sky was already mostly light. With Wang Juanfeng leading the way, they soon reached the hillside near the house. The cave was just two steps away.

Qiao Xuejun took out a flashlight. Now that the house is powered by a solar system, most of the rechargeable electrical appliances are fully charged.

The flashlight illuminated the cave, which was quite large and appeared very deep.

Unlike the dryness outside, it is very cool inside and there is a slight fishy smell in the air.

Wang Juanfeng: "Just keep moving forward."

There was indeed a small pond inside, with some sparse aquatic plants growing near the shore. Qiao Xuejun could see the bottom as soon as she shone the flashlight. The water was very shallow, probably not even up to the knees.

Wang Juanfeng: "It used to be up to my thighs, but now there's still not enough water. It's too hot."

Qiao Xuejun arrived at the pond and shone the flashlight. She could vaguely see some shrimps reflecting the light. They were quite big.

She took out the long and short fishing rods for shrimp fishing, hung the livers of pheasant on the two hooks on the upper parts, and threw them to the bottom of the pond.

You can see that the hook just touches the bottom under the float.

Shrimps usually crawl at the bottom of the pond, and they are easiest to catch if the hook just touches the bottom. Qiao Xuejun had originally planned to adjust the position of the float herself, but Kuang Qianli should have already adjusted it before, so she didn't have to work hard.
