Chapter 7 Shelter

Qiao Xuejun was so hot that she felt dizzy and dehydrated. She wanted to go into the house to rest, but the system was still sorting the goods.

She had to keep an eye on it and not let anyone else see it.

Fortunately, the yard is covered by a wall, so people around can't see it. The only thing to be on guard against is the iron fence gate, which has too big a gap and is easy to see in.

System: "Host, don't worry. I can detect anyone approaching!"

Despite this, Qiao Xuejun still watched until the system had collected all the things before entering the house.

Gongzhou is a little cooler than other areas. For example, the temperatures indoors and outdoors are completely different. No matter how hot it is outside, you can feel much cooler staying indoors.

Qiao Xuejun has been to other cities, and found that in many hot cities, the temperature indoors and outdoors is not much different.

The heat in Gongzhou comes from the sun. As soon as the sun sets, the temperature drops and the air cannot retain the heat. But in other places, the air retains the heat, so it will still be hot even after the sun sets.

"You said the high temperature will last for a year." Qiao Xuejun asked the system.

"Yes, it will kill many people. Heat stroke, you know?"

Qiao Xuejun: "This is the coolest city in the country. If the temperature continues to rise, do you think people from other places will plan to move in?"

System: “…This is not mentioned in the book.”

Qiao Xuejun frowned. This should be important information, why didn't they mention it? "What kind of book is this?"

The system hesitated: "Currently, only the high temperature part of this book has been unlocked."

Qiao Xuejun: "Why? Do I have to watch ads to unlock the rest?"

System: "... need to stock up on food, unlock."

Qiao Xuejun didn't ask any more questions. The short answer was just to stock up on food.

She sat on the sofa and rested enough, drank a bottle of water, and asked, "Where is the entrance to the underground shelter?"

System: "Right under your feet, this brick can be moved to the left and the entrance will appear."

Qiao Xuejun was surprised: "I can't tell."

The floor of the old house was made of large, antique tiles that had faded a bit, and the white pattern had turned slightly yellow. All the tiles were in the same state of wear and tear, and the seams between the tiles were also the same. There was no way to tell what was special about this floor.

If someone came in searching, they would not notice the difference in this old floor, let alone find her refuge here.

Qiao Xuejun praised: "You have good skills."

This entrance is so well hidden.

Qiao Xuejun squatted down and touched the floor. There was nothing special about it. Until she followed the system's instructions and pushed hard, the floor slid down, revealing the passage underneath.

There is a long rope ladder hanging down at the entrance of the passage.

The floor above her head closed automatically, and Qiao Xuejun walked down the rope ladder. About three meters down, she saw the shelter. She jumped down, patted the dust on her hands, and looked up: "It's only 3 meters."

System: "There is water below. Shelters cannot be built in water."

System: "It's too deep to monitor the surface, and it's hard to build a ventilation system."

That’s true. If it’s too deep, it will be difficult to install the air conditioner.

Qiao Xuejun was worried about whether her air conditioner could be installed. She had never installed an air conditioner before, and when she bought it, the furniture store said it was included in the decoration, but how could she dare to let others know that the air conditioner was installed in the underground shelter?

So to be on the safe side, she decided to install it herself.

But it’s really cool underground, not hot at all.

"Is it okay not to buy an air conditioner?" asked Qiao Xuejun.

System: "It's just getting hot now, and it's cool underground, but it will start to get hot in a month and a half at most. It will be so hot without air conditioning that people will die."

Qiao Xuejun first walked around the underground shelter. The design of the underground shelter was a square house with only one floor. The rooms were all small squares, neatly separated. This was a shelter for 10 people. There were 5 bedrooms, all of which were double rooms with bunk beds, but they were not big.

Qiao Xuejun couldn't live in so many bedrooms by herself, so the extra bedrooms could be converted for other uses. The bathroom was a little small, but it was completely sufficient.

In the middle was a large dining room with a stove, cooktop and cupboards, but they were all empty. However, Qiao Xuejun had already bought the necessities, so she only had to put the things she had bought in.

All her things were systematically piled up in the utility room.

The utility room is also very large, or it can be said to be a warehouse.

"Can this warehouse keep food fresh?" asked Qiao Xuejun.

Many things need to be kept fresh to extend their shelf life, such as medicines and food.

System: "This function is not available at the moment. Loading the preservation function requires stockpiling 1 million kilograms of grain."

One million jin, well, forget about it for now.

The last thing in the shelter is that acre of fertile land.

This field is a separate piece, which is a piece of indoor land.

System: "If the upgrade is successful in the future, the fertile land will increase."

Qiao Xuejun cared a lot about this land and went forward to touch the soil.

The soil is loose and sandy, slightly moist when pinched, and very suitable for growing potatoes. Yes, I'm not kidding, it's really good land. Qiao Xuejun is satisfied and can plant potatoes tomorrow.

The fertile land is just a field, without even a hoe. Fortunately, Qiao Xuejun bought some automated farm tools, otherwise it would be really hard for one person to cultivate such a large piece of land.

"It can be upgraded!" the system said quickly, "Turn in 20,000 kilograms of grain crops, and you can load automated farming or automated harvesting."

Of the 30,000 kilograms of potatoes, 20,000 kilograms were submitted to the system, leaving 10,000 kilograms. One acre of land can use up to 300 kilograms of potato seeds, and the yield is about 8,000 kilograms. If she takes good care of it, the yield of one acre of land can be close to 10,000 kilograms. Planting two seasons can save 20,000 kilograms.
