Chapter 136 Their Story

Inside the office, there was a small lounge. When the group entered the lounge, they saw a woman tied to the bed, barely alive, clearly having been tortured.

The woman was fairly pretty, and when she saw Ji Hao and the others arrive, a glimmer of light finally appeared in her previously dim eyes.

He Fengwu asked the woman, "You are...?"

The woman said, "My name is Zheng Qian, and I am the owner of this meat processing plant."

He Fengwu asked, "Where is that man from just now?"

A look of hatred flashed in Zheng Qian's eyes as she asked venomously, "Was he killed by you?"

He Fengwu didn't hide anything and said truthfully, "He attacked my companion just now and I shot him dead."

"Hahaha, karma, karma!" Zheng Qian laughed maniacally for a long while before finally saying, "Thank you for helping me get revenge. He's a beast. Back then, he was desperate and couldn't even afford food. My husband and I took him in, gave him a job, and treated him very well over the years, giving him raises several times. I never expected that after the apocalypse, this beast would kidnap me and do inhuman things to me..."

He Fengwu untied the ropes binding Zheng Qian and sighed, "That's how the end times are; people's hearts are complex and fickle. But now you're finally saved."

"Can you do me a favor?" Zheng Qian asked, then quickly added, seemingly afraid that the others wouldn't agree, "I will give you a generous reward."

He Fengwu said, "You tell me first."

Zheng Qian said in a light and quick voice, "I want you to help me find my husband. When the apocalypse broke out, he was living at home, not too far from here. We talked on the phone then, and he said he would come to pick me up immediately, but I have not seen him since, and I can't get through to him on the phone. I don't know how he is doing."

He Fengwu said, "You need to be mentally prepared. There are only two possibilities for why he hasn't come for so long: either he has abandoned you, or he is already dead."

Zheng Qian lowered her head, her eyes brimming with tears, and said, "We've come through so much hardship together, and our relationship has always been wonderful. I love him so much, and he loves me so much too, so there's absolutely no way he would abandon me..."

At this point, she broke down in tears. Perhaps she realized that her husband had died long ago, but she just didn't want to accept the truth.

Ji Hao said, "We can help you, but you must offer a reward that will win us over."

Zheng Qian cried for a while before her emotions finally stabilized. She said, "This meat cannery is owned by my husband and me. You can take any of the food inside. Also, I know where there is a batch of guns. As long as you help me bring my husband to me, whether he is dead or alive, I will tell you where the guns are hidden."

"Firearms?" Ji Hao became interested.

Zheng Qian said, "That's right. The day before the apocalypse broke out, my husband and I went to a nearby mountain and found a secluded cave to play... to have some fun. Later, a few masked men hurriedly came in, buried a batch of guns and a lot of expensive jewelry in the cave, and then left in a hurry. They were in a hurry and the light was dim, so they didn't notice my husband and me hiding behind a big rock."

“It wasn’t until the next day, when we saw the news, that we learned a jewelry store had been robbed. It must have been that group of people who did it. We were about to call the police when the apocalypse broke out and social order completely collapsed.” Zheng Qian said, “I originally planned to wait for my husband to arrive so we could go and retrieve those guns to protect ourselves, but things didn’t go as planned. I was kidnapped, and he couldn’t come over.”

Ji Hao said, "It seems your reward is indeed quite generous."

Zheng Qian said, "There are several mountains nearby, and that cave is quite hidden. If I don't tell you the exact location, you'll never find it in your entire life. So, you must help me bring my husband to me."

Ji Hao thought for a moment and asked, "But how can you be so sure that those people didn't take the guns?"

Zheng Qian said, "You don't need to worry. On the second day after the apocalypse broke out, they were clamoring online, saying that the relevant departments were useless and couldn't catch them. They even posted a video of looting the supplies of a supermarket in Baichuan City next door and injuring the store clerk. You know, in the extreme cold of minus 70 degrees Celsius, it was impossible for them to return to Donghai City from Baichuan City. So those weapons are definitely still there."

Ji Hao thought about it and agreed, nodding, "Okay, deal."

Zheng Qian was overjoyed and said, "My husband's name is Zhao Xiujie, and he lives in apartment 1213, No. 11, Guangming Community, Tianhe Road."

Ji Hao said, "For safety reasons, my companion and I cannot be separated. Please understand."

Zheng Qian didn't mind. She took a photo from under her pillow and handed it to Ji Hao, saying, "Then I'll wait here. This is his photo. Go and come back quickly."

“No problem.” Ji Hao took the photos, gave Zheng Qian some food, and covered her with a thick blanket before leading the group away from the cannery and heading to Guangming Residential Area on Tianhe Road.

Upon arriving at Guangming Residential Area, the group headed straight for apartment 1213 in building 11. They knocked on the door, but no one answered, so Ji Hao had no choice but to force the door open.

There was no one inside, but Ji Hao noticed that a toolbox was open, with various tools scattered haphazardly on the floor. The wardrobe was also open, with various clothes strewn about, but there was no thick coat.

Ji Hao secretly guessed that Zhao Xiujie had probably actually set off when he said he was going to pick up Zheng Qian.

Perhaps there was an accident on the way.

Ji Hao suggested, "Let's look around on the way here. If he really went to the cannery, then I think there's a high chance he froze to death on the way."

He Fengwu said, "I think so too."
