Chapter 116 Confessing at the Door
"Let's talk about the alien species." Dang Hongyuan didn't intend to beat around the bush and went straight to the point.
The lawyer was still playing dumb, casually saying, "What does that have to do with me?"
“Those newcomers in Tai’an City were indeed after Xuan Linwen, but ever since then, all the superhumans we’ve encountered along the way have been there to delay us. I’ve always found that very strange.” Dang Hongyuan looked at him coldly and said, “If they were all there for Xuan Linwen, then they shouldn’t have done something as troublesome and brainless as besieging the base.”
"Yes, that's what Captain Sui said too." Lu Zhi answered casually, showing no sign of nervousness. After all, it was obvious that what Dang Hongyuan said next was the most important.
"They deliberately besieged the city to divert our attention, and then secretly took the spirit away to lure you out."
"Excuse me for interrupting, but if you captured Sui Ling, why are you so sure it was to lead me out? Shouldn't it be to lead Sui Cheng out?" Lu Zhi raised his hand to interrupt Dang Hongyuan, asking curiously.
“Both of you are possibilities, but you will be the one to go out and rescue people,” Yang Xie said.
Lu Zhi shrugged and said, "That doesn't mean they're after me. What could I possibly want from them?"
“Then we’ll have to ask about your background,” Dang Hongyuan said. “Perhaps we need to be more honest.”
“I have nothing to say, and…” Lu Zhi stood up, looked down at them, the languid look on his face completely gone, replaced by a cold expression, “I will only listen to Sui Cheng.”
Even though Dang Hongyuan and the others had some confirmation of his identity, hearing Lu Zhi's words made them even more certain of their thoughts.
“We investigated Xinghai City six months ago.” Yang Xie’s face was cold and hard as he looked directly at him and said in a deep voice, “Besides the Sun Team that accompanied them, the last team to enter Xinghai City was a superpowered team. They discovered a high-energy species in Xinghai City. Its true form was an ivy, but it only appeared in front of them once and then disappeared. Later, they returned to the base and reported the news. Coincidentally, the Sun Team that accompanied them happened to be available.”
“Actually, at first, I just thought of you as an ordinary superhuman, someone who was rescued from Xinghai City by a car. But later I saw the vines you were using.” Yang Xie said, “They were also ivy. I thought, there can’t be such a coincidence.”
“You suspected me from the beginning, so you should have arrested me and locked me up in a lab for research, but you didn’t. That proves you haven’t found any substantial evidence yet. You came to me today to say all this so that I would confess and help you deal with the alien species outside, right?” Lu Zhi glanced at the time. It should still be a while before Sui Cheng and the others returned.
Dang Hongyuan nodded: "That's right. If the new generation is after you, we want to know why. Why you?"
Lu Zhi glanced at him indifferently and said, "Why should I tell you?"
His words were tantamount to admitting that he was a different species.
Dang Hongyuan and Yang Xie exchanged a glance; it seemed they had come to the right place today.
"Then it really is targeting you. Who is controlling the alien species?" Dang Hongyuan asked him.
Lu Zhi paused for a few seconds before truthfully saying, "It was Zhong Ling from Base One. She got away. What a pity."
"Is it only her?" Dang Hongyuan asked again.
Lu Zhi nodded: "She also has a space-type ability user with her, probably for escaping. Zhong Ling is a special mental ability user, and she controls those alien species."
He paused, stroked his chin, and asked curiously, "Have those alien species outside left?"
Yang Xie said, "No, it stopped 20 kilometers away from the base."
“The fact that they’re staying here so quietly means that Zhong Ling and the others’ camp is right there,” Lu Zhi said. “She won’t give up easily. I advise you to take advantage of this opportunity to capture her in one fell swoop if you have the chance. She knows as much as Xuan Linwen, and perhaps even more.”
"It seems you and your entourage learned quite a bit from Xuan Linwen." Dang Hongyuan's tone was indifferent, showing no anger at their concealment.
“What you already know, the charioteer will tell you. You have to trust him, right?” Lu Zhi tapped his fingertips on the table. To prevent more trouble from arising later, he added, “You can rest assured, I have nothing to gain from the base or from you. All I want is a charioteer.”
Putting everything else aside, Dang Hongyuan was still very curious as to why the law enforcement officer was so insistent on accompanying passengers.
"By the way, have you made arrangements for Xuan Linwen?" Lu Zhi changed the subject and asked about Xuan Linwen's situation.
"It's locked in the lab, along with that embryo." Dang Hongyuan paused for a moment and then said, "Professor Zhang Jun hasn't discovered it yet."
“I want to go and see it.” Lu Zhi was very interested in the embryo, so he directly asked Dang Hongyuan for a chance to see it.
“Okay, but the condition is that Yang Xie must take you there. He will keep an eye on your every move.” Dang Hongyuan’s words were quite straightforward.
But it's better than doing it secretly.
When they returned, Dang Hongyuan and the others had already left.
"A guest has arrived?" The attendant immediately noticed the two glasses of water on the table.
"Ah, yes, Dang Hongyuan and Yang Xie came by." Lu Zhi walked over to him, took the things from his hands, and put them in the kitchen.
Sui Ling closed the glass door to the kitchen, giving them space to talk.
Upon hearing it was them, the passenger quickly asked, "Are they looking for you or me? What did they say?"
“He didn’t say anything.” Lu Zhi pulled him to sit on the sofa and told him everything without missing a single detail, including his desire to go to the lab.
Sui Cheng frowned. Dang Hongyuan and Yang Xie's reaction was indeed beyond his expectations. He had thought that after discovering Lu Zhi's identity, they would arrest him for research, since all the previous mutants had done so.
But the execution of the law was an unexpected turn of events.
Knowing what he was thinking, Lu Zhi raised an eyebrow and said, "Doesn't it seem strange? Instead of arresting me, they're keeping me safe by your side."
Sui Cheng nodded, looking at him, expecting an explanation.
Lu Zhi raised his hand and pinched his earlobe, chuckling, "Because I'm a human now, and our captain is personally watching over me, so of course they're at ease."
"Who do you think you are?" Sui Cheng brushed his hand away, his brow still furrowed.
Lu Zhi smoothed his brow, then couldn't help but kiss him, whispering, "I'm serious. Although they suspect I'm a different species, all the evidence proves I'm human."
“I’m worried about something else.” Sui Cheng placed his hand on his shoulder to prevent him from getting any closer and said, “When you go to the lab, you’ll definitely run into Professor Zhang Jun. More than the Party and the others, I’m afraid he’ll discover your identity.”
"So?" Lu Zhi kissed the tip of his nose, a slight smile playing on his lips.
The passenger said, "That's why I want to go with you."
